Are you ready, Bride, for the Groom is at hand?

Our beautiful daughter was married to her beau recently. It was a profound occasion for the parents - a splendid day for all. The church was decorated with bright banners. It was a magnificent picture, as the father of the bride, with his daughter on the arm. I wept the whole way down the aisle.

There's much symbolism in a Christian marriage - that we will one day, as the church, the bride of Christ are bought together - to the marriage supper of the Lamb, where our bridegroom, the Lord Jesus Christ will await. And we will be in a wedding feast.

We read, Isaiah 61:1, I will greatly rejoice in the Lord. My soul shall be joyful in my God, for he hath clothed me with garments of salvation. He hath covered me with the robe of righteousness, as a bridegroom decketh himself with ornaments, and as a bride adorneth herself with her jewels.

In Matthew 22:2, Jesus tells how the Kingdom of Heaven is like a king arranging a marriage for his son.

In 2 Corinthians 11:2, the church is compared to a bride, presented to Christ, as the bride of Christ. There's apicture of purity, as a glorious bride. In Ephesians 5:27, that he might present it to himself a glorious church not having spot or wrinkle or any such thing...

God's Word pictures this ultimate marriage supper, as we meet our Lord in Heaven.

In 1 Peter 1:18-19 it tells how to prepare for this marriage - that ye were not redeemed with corruptible things as silver and gold from your vain conversations received by tradition from your fathers but redeemed with the precious blood of Christ, as of a lamb without blemish.

The wedding reception of Matthew 22 tells how some that were bidden to come to the wedding would not come.

One man did not have on a wedding garment. He was not ready.

At the last supper, the Lord Jesus he took the cup, he gave thanks, and he said I won't drink this again - until when I come in my father's kingdom.

In a resembling way we can prepare f..

1 John 5:21, Little children, keep yourselves from idols. Amen. Idolatry can be defined as serving, loving, desiring, or trusting anything apart from God to fulfill your needs. Idolatry replaces God! It is a substitute.

Do I love or treasure anything or anyone more than God? Idolatry is the misdirection of our worship. It’s what our heart clings to.

An idol is a substitute for God. 1 Chronicles 16:26, For all the gods of the people are idols: but the LORD made the heavens.

Exodus 20:4, Thou shalt not make unto thee any graven image…

It’s a vain exercise… Psalm 115:3-4 But our God is in the heavens: he hath done whatsoever he hath pleased. Their idols are silver and gold, the work of men's hands...

Man's modern idols Interfere with our relationship with the Lord. It's desiring something more than we desire Him. It could be possessions, pleasures, things, job, money, sports, hobbies, and many other things.

Matthew 22:37 ...Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind.

Nowadays we have the stars of stadium and stage. Rock stars today are called “idols”. Many people idolise sports stars.

Ezekiel 14:3 ...these men have set up their idols in their heart... It’s been truly said that the heart is an idol-making factory.

Exodus 20:5 - Thou shalt not bow down thyself to them, nor serve them… Idols make God jealous. He deserves our best, not our second best.

Isaiah 42:8 - I am the LORD: that is my name: and my glory will I not give to another, neither my praise to graven images. Don’t give your worship to anything else.

The Lord wants your heart, the first place, the highest place… Matthew 6:24 No man can serve two masters... Guard yourselves. Keep yourselves from idols.

1 Corinthians 10:14 Flee from idolatry.

Identify the modern-day idols, and tear them down.

Psalms 101:3 I will set no wicked thing before mine eyes: I hate the work of them that turn aside; it shall not cleave to me.

The Doctrine of Angels. Angels are found in 34 books of the Bible in over 300 references.

The word “angel” means “messenger”. Angels are a distinct order of beings, superior to man, created to operate in God’s behalf, and serve a special purpose in His plan for the ages.

God is called “the LORD of hosts” - commander of the angelic armies. Angels are called a “host”.

Angels appear to be organised into various ranks and orders and positions. Michael is called the Archangel or chief angel.

Angels are spirits but can take on physical form.

The Angel of the LORD - can be a theophany, the Lord Jesus Christ Himself.

The Seraphims are always worshipping God.

The Cherubims are mentioned in 15 books of the Bible.

All angels were created good. They were morally clean and sinless. One third of the angels fell with Lucifer, and became demons (Rev 12:4).

To be “demonised” is to “have” a devil or an unclean spirit.

God's Kingdom is an everlasting kingdom. The devil's kingdom is temporary, and its demise is imminent. God's Kingdom is universal; the devil's kingdom is confined to this world and limited in its control here.

Demons are spirit beings. Devils are fallen angels that sinned and left their first habitation whether free or bound. Unclean spirits are mentioned 20 times in the New Testament. They can work miracles and teach false doctrines.

Satan and his demons are working behind the scene within political governments, in determining the philosophy, course, and actions of world powers. A spiritual world system extends Satan's influence through demons and men.

Satan and his demons oppose God, promoting rebellion, slander, idolatry, rejecting grace; and promoting false religions and cults. Demons blind men to spiritual truth in Christ and distract them to perversions of the truth.

A Christian cannot be possessed by a demon since..

Praying for Micha and Hannah and their new life together.

Marriage was instituted and ordained of God when man's first estate was that of innocence and supreme happiness. God blessed this holy bond in these words: Therefore shall a man leave his father and his mother, and shall cleave unto his wife: and they shall be one flesh.

The Saviour Himself, sanctified the marriage union by His presence at the marriage feast of Cana of Galilee, but when He selected the tie that binds husband and wife as a fit emblem of His relationship to His ransomed church. He lifted its significance to the highest possible plane.

There is no tie on earth, so deep, so sacred, so binding, as that which joins a man and woman in the bond of marriage. Such a relationship, then, should not be entered into without prayerful thought, or due sincerity, but in the reverential fear of God.

We can build on Christ, as the foundation for our lives and marriage. We can know a Christ centred marriage. This is what Micha and Hannah want for their home, their family. The Lord Jesus is the love of their life.

This wedding is a picture of the ultimate wedding to come, when Christ will take for Himself His people as His bride. A picture of that closeness we can know with the Saviour who loves us so.

You can know Him as your own personal saviour. This would be the icing on top of the wedding cake for Micha and Hannah to hear that you have found peace with God through Christ.

Micha and Hannah would love to see all their friends and family come to know the great salvation in Christ. They wanted me to tell of the wonderful good news - that is called the gospel. That Christ died for our sins so we can be saved. Have you ever considered the reality of the destiny of your own soul? When you trust the Lord Jesus Christ He changes your destiny, and you can know eternal life. Life after death with God, forever.

Where will you spend eternity?

It’s by faith we can receive eternal life as the ultimate gift..

Deception: “the act of causing someone to accept as true or valid what is false or invalid”.

Deception is foretold. Luke 21:8 …Take heed that ye be not deceived...

2 Timothy 3:1 This know also, that in the last days perilous times shall come. Times that are fierce, dangerous… We have to be discerning.

A powerful charismatic world leader is about to step onto the world political stage and convince most of mankind that he is the anointed one – the Christ. Watch out! God warns us to be watchful not to get deceived…

2 Thessalonians 2:8-12 And then shall that Wicked be revealed, ...whose coming is after the working of Satan with all power and signs and lying wonders, (10) And with all deceivableness of unrighteousness in them that perish;

Deceit is connected to wickedness. ...because they received not the love of the truth, that they might be saved. (11) And for this cause God shall send them strong delusion, that they should believe a lie: (12) That they all might be damned who believed not the truth, but had pleasure in unrighteousness.

Some will believe a lie. The Word of God warns about deception…

Watch Laziness: James 1:22 But be ye doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving your own selves.

Watch Vain Religion: James 1:26 If any man among you seem to be religious, and bridleth not his tongue, but deceiveth his own heart, this man's religion is vain.

Watch Influences: 1 Corinthians 15:33 Be not deceived: evil communications corrupt good manners.

Watch Drink: Proverbs 20:1 Wine is a mocker, strong drink is raging: and whosoever is deceived thereby is not wise.

Watch Pride: 1 Corinthians 3:18 Let no man deceive himself. If any man among you seemeth to be wise in this world, let him become a fool, that he may be wise.

Watch Sin: Galatians 6:7 Be not deceived; God is not mocked: for whatsoever a man soweth, that shall he also reap.

It was at Gethsemane our Lord prayed, and his sweat became as it were great drops of blood falling to the ground. Tiny blood vessels were bursting in the sweat glands, mixing with the blood, causing great weakness.

At the midnight hour came some 500-600 soldiers, a great multitude, with swords and clubs, with officers of the chief priests and Pharisees, led by Judas. Our Lord was betrayed. All of his disciples forsook him and fled. He was seized and roughly treated.

Unrefreshed by food or sleep, he was hurried from one indignity to another, all night and all that morning.

As God Almighty he could have summoned over 80,000 Angels - 12 legions.

Next, before Annas, about midnight, one of the officers struck Jesus. He was sent bound to Caiaphas, and an informal trial - it was about 2AM Friday, before dawn. Jesus was tried illegally and condemned. His accusers broke about 18 Jewish laws.

Strong armed men beat him up and mocked him, while he was blindfolded. They spat upon his face and struck him, and cursed him.

The came Peter's denial.

At the formal trial our Lord was condemned by the prejudiced Sanhedrin. He was then bound again, and the mob carried him away.

Next, before Pilate, the first time, our Lord was harshly accused of many evil things by the chief priests and elders. He was questioned by Pilate, and accused by Herod Antipas. Rough soldiers degraded him and treated him with contempt. They dressed him in a mock royal robe.

Pilate acquitted him four times, but to no avail due to the bloodthirsty crowd. They placed upon our Lord a crown of thorns - its spikes 6 inches long. They put on him a robe of royal purple and bowed in mockery. They beat him, hitting the thorns deeper into his scalp. He was paraded before the yelling mob, blood streaming down his face. They cried: Crucify him, crucify him!

Scourging was a terrifying punishment, and the Romans set no limitation on the number of strokes of the whip. The Lord was at the mercy of these merciless to..

One of the 'Theology in Doxology' series: the goal in this series is to remind us of the great heritage that we have inherited from history primarily through the hymns that we are singing.

Theology means in laymen’s terms doctrinal truth. Doxology meanwhile is our response, a heartfelt response to the truths that we know and believe.

This preaching looks at the doctrine of Substitution. Charles Spurgeon says, Substitution is the very marrow of the whole Bible; the soul of salvation; the essence of the gospel. Every other aspect of salvation revolves around this like planets around the sun. Martin Luther, referred to this text as The Great Exchange. That is the mystery which is rich in divine grace to sinners: wherein by a wonderful exchange our sins are no longer ours but Christ’s and the righteousness of Christ not Christ’s but ours. He has emptied Himself of His righteousness that He might clothe us with it, and fill us with it.

Firstly we look at the Theology of God’s substitution

Under this, we have 3 headings (1) Preamble to the Exchange (2) First Part of the Exchange (3) Second Part of the Exchange.

(1) Preamble / Introduction/preliminaries of this exchange. Notice It is the work of God. We must note that the origin of our salvation is the Lord the Triune God himself. Remember in Genesis 3:15, it was God who promised about the Messiah. Many times in the Psalms and the prophets we cry that Salvation belongs to God. It was his realm to save. It was his pleasure to bring redemption to his people. Should we not adore our God, should we not praise him that he started it all from beginning to end, he could have left us alone, deserted, broken in the fiery hell, yet he chose to save us, he chose to send his Son, by his Sovereign Grace and will, it pleased him to save us through this means. It is also the work of God for us. When angels sinned, he did not die for them.He did not die for cute and mighty animals. The marvel of marvel is that Jesus would go down h..

Mothers have a powerful influence. The Bible tells how to be a mother of godly influence.

A GODLY MOTHER TEACHES. The Bible shows how a mother takes care of the spiritual training of her children. Paul gives credit for how Timothy’s mother EUNICE, and his Grandmother, LOIS, contributed to his spiritual life. 2 Timothy 1:5 When I call to remembrance the unfeigned faith that is in thee, which dwelt first in thy grandmother Lois, and thy mother Eunice; and I am persuaded that in thee also. Eunice and Lois, grandmother and mother of Timothy, are noted for their vital role in nurturing Timothy's faith and character. It’s a great example to mothers amongst us. Here’s a way mums can be a godly witness. Be a model of faith to your children.

Mothers, you can make a mark, through nurture - by your example. Timothy knew the Bible. 2 Tim 3:15 And that from a child thou hast known the holy scriptures, which are able to make thee wise unto salvation through faith which is in Christ Jesus. Mothers, you can impart the Word of God to them, from childhood. Teach your children - through life and lip. Transmit your faith - pass on your values and beliefs. This mother’s legacy to her child was a legacy of sincere faith, real faith. It was true. She was real with her faith. This was what she taught, by her life.

A GODLY MOTHER PRAYS. HANNAH is an example of a woman of prayer… She fervently prayed for a child. 1 Samuel 1:10-15 And she was in bitterness of soul, and prayed unto the LORD, and wept sore. She prayed for the gift of motherhood. Hannah surrendered her desires to God’s will.

Hers was a heartfelt prayer. She poured out her heart and soul. It was the power of faith at work. Believing prayer can work wonders.

She gave birth to Samuel, who became a mighty prophet. Hannah teaches us the power of prayer and persistence. Hannah shows us that God hears and answers the cries of His children.

Hannah’s dedication and commitment to God's will were evident when she promised to dedicat..

Gratitude - it's an essential thing that Christians should have.

A grateful mindset. We should be very grateful for what God has done. It's easy to adopt a pessimistic sort of mindset and not be thankful. When you do that it it robs your joy.

Gratitude cannot occur at the same time in your mind as sadness or bitterness or anger. Next time you're angry at someone, try and think of something that you're thankful for about them! You'll be amazed how quickly that anger dissipates!

If you start counting your blessings, as that song goes, it's hard to be sad. Just start praising God!

We can always be thankful for our Salvation. Eucharist means giving thanks - it's a Biblical word in fact. Colossians 1:12-14  Giving thanks unto the Father, which hath made us meet to be partakers of the inheritance of the saints in light:  (13)  Who hath delivered us from the power of darkness, and hath translated us into the kingdom of his dear Son:  (14)  In whom we have redemption through his blood, even the forgiveness of sins:

Paul is trying to encourage enourage them in their Christian Life. Let's be thankful what God has provided for us. He has provided the way of salvation. Salvation is of God.

He has made us partakers of the inheritance - we have become the sons of God. John 1:12  But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name:

We have a spiritual inheritance. We once were held in satan's his sway - in his kingdom. Sin binds us - it's darkness. When we receive the Lord Jesus Christ we can become the children of light - we're taken out of darkness - and hath translated us into the kingdom of his dear son.

We are taken out of satan's clutches and are come into light, and we are forgiven. We are redeemed from our sin, and the consequence of sin, which is death. And we have forgiveness of sin. Sin is no longer head to held to our account. Our sin is paid for.

God has accomplished this all through the death..

What is that in thine hand? And he said, A rod.

Moses had just a simple shepherd’s rod in his hand. God chose Moses to lead His people out of Egypt. He was 80 years old. God uses whatever a person is and has - if they just would simply yield to God. God uses simple people, ordinary things. And it’s like that with each of us, despite our limitations.

Moses tried excuse after excuse. He says he doesn’t feel worthy. He says the people will not believe him. He says that he is not good with words. He even says, send another.

God uses the unlikely. Like David, Gideon, Paul, the disciples. Acts 4:13 they... perceived that they were unlearned and ignorant men, they marvelled; and they took knowledge of them, that they had been with Jesus. God often chooses ordinary people with humble beginnings to accomplish extraordinary things. It’s a demonstration of God’s power and sovereignty over human limitations.

2 Corinthians 4:7 But we have this treasure in earthen vessels, that the excellency of the power may be of God, and not of us.

God can use what seems small and insignificant to accomplish great things. God used…
A Stone - David defeated Goliath with a slingshot and a stone (1 Samuel 17:49-50).
A Widow's Jar of Oil - Elisha multiplied a widow's jar of oil to provide for her and her sons during a time of famine (2 Kings 4:1-7).
A Jawbone of a Donkey - Samson used a jawbone of a donkey as a weapon to defeat a thousand Philistines (Judges 15:15).
A Boy's Lunch - Jesus fed a multitude with just five loaves of bread and two fish, demonstrating God's provision and abundance (John 6:1-14).
A Piece of Cloth - God performed miracles through Paul, even using handkerchiefs he’d touched to heal the sick and drive out evil spirits (Acts 19:11-12).
A Bronze Snake - God instructed Moses to make a bronze snake, and whoever looked at it after being bitten by a snake would live (Numbers 21:8-9).

The mighty maker of the universe is able to use the common and ordinary things which are..

Satanology is a significant biblical doctrine that examines the existence, personality, origin, fall, and nature of Satan.

Contrary to some beliefs, Satan is not a mythical figure with horns and a tail but a real and personal being.

Satan Exists: The Bible presents Satan as a real, created being, not eternal or self-existent. He is depicted in both the Old and New Testaments interacting with God and humans.

Satan is Personal: He possesses personal traits such as intelligence, memory, knowledge, will, and emotions. He engages in personal actions like speaking, tempting, accusing, and waging war.

Origin and Fall: Ezekiel 28 describes Satan’s original state of perfection, his high rank as the anointed Cherub in Eden, and his fall due to pride and desire for independence from God.

Isaiah 14 details Satan’s ambition to ascend above God’s angels, rule the universe, and be like the Most High, leading to his downfall.

Names and Nature:
Lucifer: Originally a ‘shining one’ or ‘light-bearer,’ indicating his former beauty and exalted position.

Evil One/Wicked One: Reflects his cruel and tyrannical nature post-fall.

Satan: Meaning ‘adversary,’ he opposes God and humanity, embodying hatred and evil.

Satan’s rebellion and sin stem from pride and ambition, leading to his condemnation and ongoing enmity towards God and His creation.

Satan’s various names reveal different aspects of his character and his opposition to the divine order.

Satan is the ruler of the world system - the world of unredeemed men, alienated from God, hostile to Christ, and organised governmentally as a system or federation under Satan. The world - the Kosmos, cosmos, is a Christ-rejecting system, dominated by Satan. The world is the sphere of Satanic influence and authority. The world is opposed to God, as worldliness is opposed to spirituality. The W..
