MACARTHUR LANDING MEMORIAL NATIONAL PARK. Commonly known as MacArthur Park, is one of Leyte’s significant landmarks. It is where the famous bronze statue of General Douglas MacArthur is found which commemorates his historic return to the island of Leyte on the early afternoon of October 20, 1944. Built along with the stutue of the brave General are his landing Filipino companions – then President Sergio Osmeña, General Carlos Romulo and four other soldiers. Because of the park’s significance in the history of the Philippines, the same has been declared as a National Historical Landmark in the year 2004.

Inscribed on a marble wall in front of the bronze statues is General MacArthur’s promise to return which have been kept in the hearts of all Leyteños. Indeed, a well-preserved promise that while it has already been fulfilled, it continues to give hope to the present generation.

The Park is located at Brgy. Candahug, Palo, Leyte which is three (3) kilometers away from the town proper.

FULFILLMENT OF A PROMISE

Whenever guests from Manila or other places visit Eastern Visayas, one of the mandatory tourist places one must visit is the McArthur Memorial Park.

A stones throw away from Tacloban City (actually, around 15-25 minutes depending on traffic), the park is a family-friendly space where people converge for a stroll, picnic, photo session, or simply a breather from the mundane.

It’s a huge laid-back park lined with trees and covered with grass, perfect to plop down read a book. Some people come here for photoshoots and other creative activities for a picturesque backdrop.

But unbeknown to a lot, this isn’t just the usual tourist spot. On this area was where the largest naval battle in history took place. The current idyllic seafront and clear skies, during the second world war was filled with battleships, and wreckage, and dogfighting fighter planes. Though this great battle wasn’t as bloody, it was a spectacle and surviving veterans ..

Biliran Island | Philippines

Claire's Dad (Lutgardo, AKA Capt Pancito ) took me fishing with the other members of the Family. (Macky, Jonas the Navigator) Fishing is a Family business here in Mapuyo Biliran. We caught 17 fish. The biggest was a Lapu Lapu!

Biliran became a regular province on May 11, 1992 after a plebiscite was conducted in accordance with R.A. 7160. The island province, which was formerly a sub-province of Leyte, belongs to the Eastern Visayas region (Region 8). It is bounded on the north by the Visayas Sea, on the south by the Carigara Bay, on the east by the Samar Sea, and on the west by the Strait of Biliran.

The province of Biliran consists of 8 municipalities and 132 barangays. It is a lone congressional district. The seat of government is in Naval, the capital town.

The main island has slightly flat to rolling and rough terrain. It has narrow coastal areas or lowlands with mountainous interiors except for the municipalities of Naval and Caibiran that have wider plains and rolling terrain extending about 7 km from the coast. Mountain ranges occupy the major portion of the island municipality of Maripipi.

Biliran has a combination of warm and cool climatic zones, thus the prevailing climate is ideal for the cultivation of a wide range of agricultural crops. There is no distinct dry season but the heavy wet season generally occurs in December.

DEMOGRAPHY
In 2000 Census, Biliran had a total population of 140,274 of which 71,259 were males and 69,015 were females. Population density was 252 persons per square kilometer. Annual population growth rate was 1.28 %. Dialects spoken are the Waray-waray, which is spoken by 43.3% of the total population, and the Cebuano dialect, which accounts for 55.9%.

Air Force City Park is a recreational complex that features real helicopters, fighter jets, and
aviation equipment used by the Armed Forces of the Philippines and the United States. It is located within the Clark Freeport Zone in Pampanga, 96 kilometers north of Manila.

The park is the perfect place to marvel at aircraft that served the country as a visit here will allow you to see a UH-1H Iroquois or a HUEY, a Vought F8 Crusader, an F5a Jet (which is also popularly called the Freedom Fighter), a T-28 Trojan, and a T-33 or a Thunder Bird, which was the country's first aircraft, ushering the Philippine Air Force into the jet age.

Aside from a history tour, the park also offers shaded areas for visitors to have picnics or naps. Its wide space with a play area is also perfect for kids to run around and have fun.
