On the Ukraine:"... My main involvement is Ukraine, where there is a new eh.. eh.. eh.. eager to be part of the European Union, be a European democratic country, and actually the people involved, almost every one of them have been somehow in contact with the foundation. Both inside the Government, and civil society it's all people who they tell me that somebody, somehow they are connected... And that is very gratifying - 25yrs of work has really paid off. So in that sense is similar to Myanmar, I think it's actually more successful..."
On China and Japan:
"If the economic transformation fails, then the fallback is to hold power the country together by having some 'external conflict', something obviously China and Japan are set up for that. And then you have a very dismal prospect for the world. so i think in the long run that is the most important political issue and how it works out will influence the biggest fear of mankind. "
... "The absence or order leads to disorder We not have a period of global disorder and that means that crisis that used to be settled by some form of international intervention actually don't get settled, they fester and they accumulate and as the numbers grow, each crisis could be settled perhaps on it's own But they are all interconnected. And the loosers in one country tend to be the spoilers in the other countries and therefore the conflict and therefore, the conflicts don't get settled. so you have them accumulating, go back to the Israhel Palestinian conflict is probably one of the longest festering ones and they are not any closer to [being settled].
Then you have Iraq, Syria, Iran, You have potential for Russian partial solution with the Iranian nuclear issue. It could be the beginning of a Iran coming back to the Global system. But there are 'very strong forces' that want to prevent it, both here, in the US, and of course Russia. Afghanistan
