Ireland: How the hell could it have happenned? Looking back at the killing of Aoife Johnston in UHL
Taking a look at some of the management team in UHL who were in positions at the time fo Aoife's killing and where they are today. Also a look at the director of nursing and midwifery who was presiding GUH in October 2012, when Savita was killed there by 'medical misadventure' and current role as CEO of UL Hospitals group. Find out who the unnamed CCD is. To describe what happened to Aoife in University hospital Limerick as a 'death by misadventure' is not accurate and it lets everyone responsible off the hook.
Aoife was left for 12 and a half hours with sepsis, when someone did finally tend to her she was unable to communicate due to her brain having swelled confirmed by a CT scan. To say that Savita died for lack of a termination is another lie. Both women were killed by negligence in one case, and pure neglect in the other.
During Aoife's 13 hour wait as a catagory 2 patient, her parent's continuously tried to get someone to help their daughter. With nowhere to lay, no trollies, the hospital refusing to open the wards to decompress the ED for fear of 'i-n-f-e-c-t-i-o-n'. 21 nurses absent, 1 consultant, 2 foreign registrars and triage. On call consultant refused to attend. Made excuses, again to be clear about it, "ON CALL". No excuses. Her parents made a make shift short bed out of two chairs in a store room. Aoife was in agony. She was vomiting a green substance all night. She was so badly in need of medical attention that other patients were asking the doctors tending them to leave and go and save the girl. That's no small sacrifice. It's not like the supermarket checkout. Aoife was the sickest patient in the ED, should have got the sepsis bundle within 15 mins of arrival. The ED doctor Card was never given the letter from Aoife's GP even after she tended her at 6.05am on the 18th of December 2022. We didn't get answers as to why the letter was not passed directly to a doctor on arrival.
There is a lot here you could all go and easily find out, but which is not in any of the press coverage and I think you will be surprised by it. What type of societies reward people with promotion such as the people promoted here? What type of 'solution' will Declan McNamara come up with to alleviate the pressure on the ED dept in Limerick? One of his next projects. There's enough people covering the sadness of the killing, not tragedy, killing.
Again, How the hell could it happen? Remember the time frame and the attitude of healthcare workers in Ireland these days. This was no bloody 'tragic' 'accident'. They literally had to try and not notice Aoife. The only people in the hospital who called for help were native Irish. The foreign triage and both registrars had memory problems, none called for backup. The Irish consultant on call was called, declined. The General manager was WORKING FROM HOME. There was no one in the wheelhouse. The ship was adrift. She sent a couple of text messages, went to bed. Where is she now? It's all in the video.
The Johnstons on the back of the verdict are taking a civil case. Not reported who the parties are, presumably the HSE / UHL. No individuals. I have a massive problem with that. Heads should be rolling. Instead, reward. Redeployed.
Download and share on other platforms, I think it's youtube friendly, I'm not. Maybe you are. Make them famous.

Notice the redirect here. Ralph Reigel's Irish Independent article was gutted like a fish and he knows it. From when it was released on the first link, as per that link, the first article headline was "Death of Aoife Johnston (16) at UHL ruled as medical misadventure".By lunch, Steed's testimony vanished off the page. Replaced with family testimony and emotional tributes. https://archive.is/SYWZY
