Imported by American Tactical Inc. (ATI), the Schmeisser S60 60-Round 5.56mm NATO/.223 Rem. Magazine with Window is a very interesting magazine that DefenseReview (DR) only recently got to handle at SHOT Show 2023, and we liked both how it looked and felt in the hand. It’s made from nylon-reinforced polymer, and seemed well made. The representative at the booth told us it was reliable. That said, we’d of course like to have DR writer/contributor and chief new-product tester Jeff Gurwitch run a couple of them at the range for us at some point, just to see for ourselves.

The ATI Schmeisser S60 60-round mag’s actual manufacturer, Schmeisser GmbH, is based in Krefeld, Germany, and is known for making rifles and pistols, but the S60 magazine was introduced in 2019 at SHOT Show. We were there that year, but somehow missed the booth, unless it’s in our photos or videos somewhere, and we simply forgot. Regardless, we’re pleased to cover the S60 mag now, since we dig it, assuming it works as advertised.

Defense Review isn’t sure whether the iteration we handled is the Gen3 or still the Gen2 S60, but it certainly looks and feels fully developed. The proof, however, is in the shooting, and we simply haven’t done that yet.

In the hands of someone who knows how to use it, a PR-24 is an awesome tool.

Unfortunately, very, very few cops have the time or take the time to learn how to use one properly.

In an age where there is so much shit hanging off a duty belt that you have to gain weight as you age just to add acreage to your belt, the PR 24 was getting in the way. Or you had to take it off to get in a car. Woe be the guy who jumped in the car after a tussle and his baton shifted so when he sat down it flipped up between his legs.

The ASP fit better onto the new bat belt and you never had to worry about it getting in the way once stowed.

I trained with and used a PR24 in my early years. I liked it but eventually the PC crowd caused us to go the ASP which weighs more than my pistol. I don't even carry a baton any more.

I carried the PR24 for a few years and it came natural to me as I had practiced with many martial arts weapons in my youth, like the tonfa which the PR24 is basically a copy of it. I liked it. But yeah the ASP is much easier to carry than having that big PR24 or old school nightstick on your sam brown.

I liked them myself, always carried one. Great for takedowns but as said, needs constant practice.

An asp is essentially, hitting someone with a pipe. Not a lot of training involved.

For everyday no actual use carry, the asp is much easier.

Only pr down side for me was we had the expandable that stayed on the belt. Being a lefty, I got it caught once and a while getting in and out and would break the clip / holster.

For use, I’d pick a pr all day.

I still keep one in ea vehicle.

When they first issued them, the diagram of where not to hit people had a few red spots (don't hit here).

Each following year, the red spots grew, and multiplied. To the point where just about all you could do was spank a shithead on the ass with it, or attempt a complex joint maneuver that required the person's cooperation.
