I did a video where I have failed to produced indigo pink colour. In this video I follow the recipe that other experienced soap makers have done in the past. This is natural colourant and you need some kind of effort to get the colour you want. Worse case, you just simple take the easy option and use Mica. But where is the the fun in that?

Recipe for infusion

✅ 4 Tablespoons of indigo powder
✅ 900 grams of olive oil
✅ Heat it for 2 hours over low heat in crockpot
✅ Let the ground indigo settle to the bottom
✅ Use the infused oil ( just the top) in your recipe

If you seriously thinking about going into the business of soap making. I highly recommend you to invest in a proper soap cutter. If you made soap for home usage which is what I am doing. Then a Chinese cleaver to cut is fine but the aesthetic of the soap is not there if you want to be perfect like most soap makers out there. Then invest in soap cutter.

This is 4 days since I pour in the mould. After 2 days I cut the soap and it turn out soap as butter. Today after 4 days the cheap Charlie soap is still soft on the inside. I suspected the Super Fat is at 12%, which is 4 above the normal 5-8% for super fat. What could you do in this situation? Wait or rebatch. I keep the waiting game going.

Citric acid is a great addictive to soap as some area have hard water. Citric acid can reduce soap scums in those area. Is it necessary in soap? Ofcourse not, it’s more of an prevention than any thing else. Also, citric acid can also acts an a preservative in soap. Two functions in one ingredient, not bad for a relatively cheap ingredient in soap making.

There is only 3 reasons why your soap is soft. 1st reason is the formulae you use is off, 2nd the scale you use has some issues and 3rd too much water in your recipe. Fix those three problems and you have a hard like rock soap.

Could you extract pink colour from indigo powder? The answer is yes but there are efforts involved in the extraction phrase. You can either use the heat method or the time method.

The oil that I am using is olive oil for the extraction. What I learnt from other soap makers are the amount use is key. Too little and it will not show up. So here is the recipe that I have learnt from other people that got successful extraction from indigo powder.

✅ 4 Tablespoons if indigo powder infused in Olive oil (900 grams or 2 pounds) Holly Soap Making

✅Heat oil in crock pot or double boiler for 2 hours
✅Let it cool down overnight
✅Shake or stir it often for the next week or 7 days
✅Put it up to the light, if you see pink colour (success)
✅If not, let time extract and put it up to the light
✅Use it in your soap recipe
✅Only use the top oil, leave the indigo powder behind in jar

Do you need to buy from the store oat milk? How easy is is to make at home? The answer is pretty easy, just a little effort ahead of time and you be rewarded with savings, plus you know exactly what is in your oat milk.

🛑🛑🛑OAT MILK RECIPE🛑🛑🛑

✅ 1 part oat rolled (100grams)
✅ 8 parts warm distilled water (800grams)

Instructions

- Warm everything in microwave for 90 seconds
- Leave overnight
- Blend everything in blender or food process
- Drain using cheese cloth
- Add addictives ( Optional) sugar or honey per your soap recipe
- Freeze in ice cube
- Ready to replace or partial replace water in your soap recipe

In this video I share my oat milk or Oatmeat soap making with you. My process was cool cold process sisp making. When I tested the pH was still high (pH 13), so the best thing to do is isolate the soaps and retest 24 hours later. Basically you need to continue test pH if this soap until the soap turn to safe level pH.

✅ 35% Palm Oil
✅ 30% Coconut oil
✅ 25 Rice Bran Oil
✅ 10% Olive Oil
✅ Super fat @ 6%
✅ 1.7:1 Water to Lye Ratio

Addictives
1) grounded oat roll add in with oil
2) oat roll add on top as decorations

Directions

1) Freeze oat milk overnight, we are replacing water in recipe with oat milk.
2) Measure All Fats
3) measure lye + iced oak milk
4) mix in lye into iced oak milk, let it cool down
5) melt hard fats in microwave
6) Combine hards fats + soft fats in mixing pot
7) Mixed in ground oak roll
8) Wait till temp reach 30 Degree Celsius or close to it
9) Combine lye solution to fats
10) Blend with stick blender ( 1 minute max)
11) Pour out to mould
12) Decorate with oak roll
13) Cover top with plastic ( prevent soda ash )
14) Freeze for 8 hours
15) after 24 hours, check pH, the cut
16) Cure for 4-6 weeks

Food colourant is a great way to add some spice to to your soap. Or should I say it more colours to your soap. But working with food colouring is tricky. And the best way to have fun and experiment with colouring.

Could you have more than one colour by just using the same colourant? The answer is yes and it has to do with the preparation of the ingredients in your soap making. Indigo powder is one such ingredient that you can infuse in water or oil and the colour you can get can varies. Some people can get light blue to dark navy blue.
