The investigation targets Henyard, her political committee, her cancer charity, her boyfriend, two of her relatives, four allied trustees, her deputy police chief, and even her defunct burger business. The subpoenas demand extensive records, including payroll, expenses, employment, reimbursements, credit card transactions, travel, and other documents for a grand jury hearing.
In April, federal prosecutors charged Keith Freeman, Henyard’s top aide in both Dolton and Thornton Township, with bankruptcy fraud for failing to report his earnings. Despite the charges, Freeman remains in his positions, which his lawyer suggests may be part of an effort to get him to cooperate with investigators. Robbins, another village where Freeman served as an administrator, also received a subpoena related to his tenure there, with an audit revealing he received more money than budgeted.
"They’ll turn up more leads," said Wright. "They may turn up more witnesses. They may find a cooperator. They may get an informant. All will benefit the investigation tremendously."
Henyard has denied any wrongdoing, claiming the concerns about her spending of taxpayer money and allegations of political retaliation are “fake news” motivated by race, even though her challengers are also Black. During a February meeting, Henyard accused her Black critics of attacking her because of her race and position of power.

Young adults and teenagers are particularly vulnerable, as emphasized by Thurstone. "The studies that we have so far clearly indicate that the risk for psychosis is dose dependent," he explained. "The more marijuana someone is exposed to, especially during adolescence, the greater the risk of developing psychosis, schizophrenia, and severe mental illness." Ludicrous has just been redefined. New York City Mayor Eric Adams has proposed that the city should hire illegal aliens as lifeguards, citing their swimming proficiency. Adams made this controversial remark during a Tuesday press conference addressing lifeguard staffing shortages at NYC public pools and beaches.
"How do we have a large body of people that are in our city, our country, that are excellent swimmers and at the same time we need lifeguards—and the only obstacle is that we won’t give them the right to work to become a lifeguard?” Adams stated.
This comment is part of Adams' ongoing campaign to expedite work permits for migrants to address labor shortages. However, it has drawn criticism due to the perilous journeys many migrants undertake to reach New York City. Hundreds cross the Rio Grande daily, with an estimated 2,700 having died in nearly three decades, according to Texas Monthly. These deaths are not officially tracked by any U.S. agency.
Illegals currently face a 60-day shelter limit for families and 30 days for individuals. They must wait six months after applying for asylum before they can obtain a work permit. Adams argued that a plan to expedite work permits for critical job shortages could alleviate these issues. "If there was a shortage of food service workers and those who fit that criteria, we’re going to expedite you,” he said. “If you have experience as a nurse and we have a nursing shortage, we would expedite you."
Adams' comments come amid reports from the New York Police Department of a "wave of migrant crime," which has fueled Republican calls for stricter immigration policies. These remarks have also created tension between Adams and the Biden Administration, whose support he needs.
Adams concluded by expressing frustration with bureaucratic hurdles preventing migrants from contributing to the workforce, despite their skills and willingness to work. "We have all these eligible people waiting to work, with the skills we need to..
