Ubisoft has unveiled the official world premiere trailer for "Assassin's Creed: Shadows," set to release later this year. This time, they're diving into an open-world samurai adventure set in Japan, drawing inspiration from the success of "Ghost of Tsushima." The protagonist is Yasuke, a historical figure whose story is rarely told in Western media.

This choice of character, while fascinating, raises eyebrows considering Ubisoft’s motivations. Critics previously blasted "Ghost of Tsushima" for being developed by non-Japanese creators, yet similar scrutiny is absent here, likely due to Yasuke being a Black samurai. This inconsistency in the gaming community's reaction is striking.

There are concerns about historical accuracy, with some leaks suggesting Yasuke’s storyline might be heavily dramatized for the game, diverging from the records that suggest he was more likely a retainer than a samurai. Ubisoft's emphasis on diversity and representation is clear, but it seems more driven by contemporary social expectations than historical fidelity.

Interestingly, while "Ghost of Tsushima" faced backlash for its development team, "Assassin's Creed: Shadows" is getting praised despite its Western roots. Ubisoft seems to be pushing for diversity by making Yasuke the lead, likely anticipating less criticism and more praise for representation.

Moreover, there's a broader issue with how AAA games are developed today, with high development costs and the pressure to appeal to modern social trends often leading to historical liberties being taken. Ubisoft's decision to make Yasuke a samurai who fell into Japan via a slave ship raid rather than the likely historical missionary route is one such example. It appears that the developers are prioritizing a narrative that fits contemporary sensibilities over strict historical accuracy.

I'm curious to see how "Assassin's Creed: Shadows" will be received and whether it will face the same level of scrutiny as other games. The game ind..

Video game journalism is facing a lot of issues, especially with outlets like Kotaku pushing certain agendas over focusing on games. Recently, there's been a lot of talk about online harassment, with people like @EmmySpeens joining the conversation.

During a recent livestream, EmmySpeens talked about what she sees as bullying and harassment directed at journalists, especially Alyssa Mercante from Kotaku. However, EmmySpeens's approach has sparked a bigger discussion about her methods in the gaming community.

EmmySpeens wants to exclude gamers who harass others, aiming to make gaming spaces safer. While this is meant to stop toxic behavior, it also raises concerns about freedom of expression and excluding parts of the gaming community. Some found her arguments contradictory and her demeanor erratic.

While condemning harassment, EmmySpeens also suggests excluding those with different views from gaming discussions. Her approach, described by some as "unhinged," may not resonate with everyone, especially those who prefer calm, reasoned debates.

Her intense style might not effectively address the root causes of harassment and could divide the community further. The gaming community needs to find ways to address harassment that involve everyone and promote a respectful culture.

EmmySpeens's passion shows the ongoing fight against online harassment, but her approach might not bring the unity needed to combat it effectively. The community must find a balance between fighting toxicity and welcoming diverse opinions.

Recently, there has been a notable defense of Alyssa Mercante from Kotaku by figures such as EmmySpeens, who has taken a strong stance against what she perceives as online harassment and bullying directed at Mercante. In various online discussions and social media posts, EmmySpeens has voiced support for Mercante, condemning any form of harassment and advocating for a more respectful and inclusive gaming community. Microsoft recently announced significant changes to their Bethesda and ZeniMax teams, with the closure of several studios and a shift in focus towards high-impact franchises. This decision, according to Microsoft, stems from a "reprioritization of titles and resources" to invest more deeply in Bethesda's portfolio of blockbuster games and beloved worlds.

Among the studios affected are Arkane Austin, Alpha Dog Studios, and Tango Gameworks, with Roundhouse Games being realigned to ZeniMax Online Studios. The impact of these changes is substantial. Development on Redfall has been abruptly ended, leaving players with an incomplete game. Mighty Doom, another title from Alpha Dog Studios, will also be sunset, with no further updates planned.

Despite the closures and realignments, Microsoft has stated that they will provide support, including severance benefits, to affected employees. They have also highlighted their future game lineup, which includes highly anticipated titles like Starfield: Shattered Space, Fallout 76: Skyline Valley, Indiana Jones in the Great Circle, and The Elder Scrolls Online: Golden Road.

However, these announcements have raised questions about Microsoft's decision-making and management. There is a sense of distrust among some observers, particularly regarding the handling of Redfall. The closure of studios that were known for their innovation and creativity, such as Arkane Austin and Tango Gameworks, has left many wondering about the future of new intellectual properties (IPs) under the Xbox umbrella.

While some may see the focus on established franchises like Fallout and Elder Scrolls as a positive, there are concerns about the lack of new IP development. The optics of shutting down studios known for creating new and unique experiences while focusing on existing franchises may not bode well for the future.

In conclusion, Microsoft's recent announcements regarding the changes to their Bethesda and ZeniMax teams have sparked mixed reactions...

It's incredibly hypocritical of Alyssa Mercante to act like a victim now, considering she just messaged Smash JT's wife last week in an attempt to harass and threaten his family over the videos he makes about her. Alyssa's behavior is a classic case of dishing out what she can't take—she's quick to engage in harassment herself but cries foul when faced with similar actions. Her lack of self-awareness and accountability is astonishing, especially when she's directly responsible for initiating this cycle of harassment. This double standard only underscores her inability to handle the consequences of her own actions.

So, what's going on here? Alyssa Mercante is back in the news for reasons she'd rather avoid. It seems her sister's website has been hacked, or the domain has been purchased and is now being used to harass her. While I do not condone this behavior towards anyone for any reason, I can’t help but find some irony in the situation. It feels like the consequences of her actions are coming back to haunt her.

First off, let me clarify that I don’t support harassment of any kind. I woke up this morning to a shout-out from Master of TDS, who shared that someone bought Alyssa's sister's domain name and is emailing her for comments on Alyssa’s actions. Alyssa tweeted, “Some chud paid for my sister's domain name and is emailing her and me for comment on ‘my actions’. Tell me again how this isn’t a harassment campaign comprised of obsessive losers with too much free time.”

It's fascinating how Alyssa can’t see that her own actions are creating the chaos in her life. The entire reason this is happening is because she invited it, and I don't want that to be overlooked. She’s been provoking people to bring this on her just to play the victim when something goes wrong.

On the website, there’s even a link to a tweet saying, “Quick thing: doxxing is not reaching out to someone's significant other and sending a polite message. Doxxing is posting someone's home address. ..

In a surprising turn of events, Nintendo has officially announced that the successor to the Nintendo Switch, tentatively named the Nintendo Switch 2, will be unveiled before April 2025. This revelation came directly from Nintendo President Shuntaro Furukawa during the company's recent financial earnings report.

With global Nintendo Switch sales exceeding 141.32 million units, the anticipation for the next iteration of the popular console has been steadily building. Rumors and leaks about the Switch 2 have been circulating for some time, with speculation pointing to a potential release date in early 2025. However, Furukawa's announcement has now confirmed that the new hardware will be announced within the current fiscal year, which ends on March 31, 2025.

Despite this exciting news, fans will have to wait a bit longer for more details. Furukawa made it clear that the upcoming Nintendo Direct in June will not feature any information about the Switch 2. Instead, the focus will be on the Nintendo Switch's software lineup for the latter half of 2024.

While specific details about the Nintendo Switch 2 are still scarce, previous leaks have hinted at potential upgrades such as magnetic Joy-Cons, support for Nvidia DLSS, and backward compatibility with existing Nintendo Switch titles. With the console's release date still up in the air, it's clear that Nintendo is taking its time to ensure a successful launch without the supply issues seen with other recent console releases.

As we eagerly await more news about the Nintendo Switch 2, one thing is certain: Nintendo fans have a lot to look forward to in the coming months. Stay tuned for further updates on this highly anticipated console!

DenimsTV's behavior, including giving Grummz a death threat, should result in punishment from Twitch, such as a ban or suspension. Twitch's policies on harassment and threats should be enforced fairly and consistently, regardless of the streamer's gender or popularity. It's important for Twitch to maintain a safe and respectful environment for all users, and actions like these should not be tolerated. What do you think? Should Twitch take action against DenimsTV? This is significant because Sweet Baby Inc. has been linked to pushing DE&I (Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion) narratives in games, an issue that has been affecting the gaming industry since the Sweet Baby Inc. detected situation and the onset of GamerGate 2.

In today's video, we’re diving deep into the latest Square Enix restructuring news and their shift to a multiplatform strategy. Square Enix is stepping away from exclusivity and expanding to Nintendo platforms, PlayStation, Xbox, and PCs. This big change comes after disappointing sales from major PS5 titles, and there's a lot to unpack.

Yesterday, we touched on how Square Enix’s new business plan focuses less on exclusives. Today, we’ll discuss why this is happening. Recent reports confirm that PS5 games like Final Fantasy 16, Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth, and Foam Stars underperformed, failing to meet Square Enix’s internal targets. These AAA titles didn’t reach their expected sales, impacting both Square Enix and Sony significantly.

Bloomberg's article by Mochizuki reveals that while initial sales for these games were promising, they quickly lost momentum. This sales decline has led to serious repercussions, including planned layoffs in Square Enix’s European and American divisions. Interestingly, Japanese divisions remain unaffected, highlighting differences in labor laws and business practices.

We’ll explore why Triple-A game development costs are becoming unsustainable and how this shift is impacting the industry. Development costs are skyrocketing, making it harder for games to turn a profit. Unlike the PS2 or PS3 eras, where risks could be taken and smaller games could succeed, today’s market demands high sales just to break even.

We’ll also touch on Sony’s latest financial report, revealing a dip in PS5 system sales year-over-year, and the appointment of a new two-headed CEO for PlayStation, including Herman Holst. With the gaming industry facing many challenges, from underperforming games to rising development costs and shifting market strategies, it’s a critical time for gamers and developers alike.

Why isn't Final Fantasy 7 Remake on Xbox yet? Why are development times getting longer with new hardware demands? And how does this affect the future of gami..

This support highlights the complex dyna..
