Numa is possibly the only practicing Neoplatonist that I have ever met, which is very interesting to me since Neoplatonism was for a time the main rival to Christianity in late antiquity. Numa and I discuss what Neoplatonism is, how it developed, what sorts of spirituality existed in the west before Christian times, and what is the likely successor to Christianity, Scientific Materialism, and "pop" pseudospiritual fashion trends in the postmodern west. Bhante Varapanno did me the honor of calling from his hut in Thailand to discuss the issue of Frankfurt-School-influenced cultural Marxism taking over Buddhism in the west, and also making inroads in the east. He was alarmed by a recent academic article in the Journal of Global Buddhism criticizing authentic traditional Buddhism and promoting what is essentially "Social Justice" with a little meditation (and lots of "inclusivity") thrown in.

Humble Stature is an alternative Buddhist community set on creating authentic connection, depth, and real-world insights into what it takes to live a spiritual life in the modern world.
My hope now is to find like-minded individuals so that we can build a community not based on gurus and trendy philosophies but on deep wisdom teachings that can be directly experienced. This is not meant to be a community of perfect people; it is a community of flawed individuals who are committed to uplifting those around them and doing good deeds.
