France is famous for having a heavily centralised and big state with a huge buerocracy. In many ways France invented the modern buerocratic state. In this video, a collaboration with my friend @RavignonCh we try to tell the story of how the centralised french state came to be.

The Postwar matters. In the bleakness and horrors of the war we are currently witnessing in Europe, it is important to remind ourselves that this war will also end. This matters. It is upon us who believe in a free and democratic Europe to support our ukrainian brothers and sisters in their striving for victory. BUT it is also upon us all to imagine a world after the war. Many of my videos since the brutal Russian invasion of 2022 have focuse heavily on what the world will be like after the war, and I have noticed criticisms directed at this approach of mine. I therefore wish to defend myself briefly and explain why the Postwar matters so much, not just to me, but also to you.

Ukraine will join the European Union. This is now a certainty. It will take time. Ukraine will probably not join until the war is over, and there are many requirements for membership that Ukraine has to meet. But it is by now a certainty that Ukraine is a member of our European family, and many in Europe are celebrating this. But we should also take a moment to think about the challenges ahead of us. The main challenge will be agriculture. Ukraine is home to the largest stretch of fertile soil in Europe. Ukrainian farmers are able to outproduce and outcompete every other European farmer. And we, must prepare for this and discuss it.

With there being a lot of talk about a new space race in the media, I thought it may be a good idea to make a little video covering the geopolitics of space. Focused a little more on geography than usual I would like to give you a good overview of the geopolitics of space travel and what the future space race may look like.

My friend Frog made this excellent video critiquing realism that i can recommend to you as well: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ripo-GLTLkY

The war in Ukraine is overly "depoliticised". That meaning, people exclusively look at it from a geopolitical lense. Often refusing to acknowledge internal political developments within Ukraine, and mainly applying theories of geopolitics that I believe can be incredibly misleading. One of these is realism as advocated by john Mearsheimer. And in this video i would like to present you with some points arguing against the realist position on Ukraine.

This video is a starting point. Sort of to kick us off into a series. I would like to make several videos discussing and presenting how Imperialism throughout the ages and various Empires affected the political and economic developments of various societies across the world. And what better place to start, than with one of the first Empires, that of Alexander the Great, and how his idea of a universal Empire endured beyond his death throughout the ages.

What even is the European Union? What is it's purpose in the context of the history of Europe? Meaning history as a political process of development? Europe is a political process that is intent on preventing war between nation-states and creating a post-imperial system of politics, and in this video, I outline the case for that.

This video is for all the Austrian subscribers who kept asking me to make a video touching on the country I live in. It's about the Danube, the second-longest river in Europe that flows through Germany, Austria, Slovakia, Hungary, Croatia, Serbia, Romania, Bulgaria, Moldova, and Ukraine. One of the most interesting things about the Danube is that rivers like it are usually economic cores of industry and trade, but the Danube is not. This is due to a century of neglect in development, and we examine that neglect and its consequences in this video.

Over the last few years of making videos the most engaging and interesting criticisms of my videos have come from people who I would call Geographic determinists. People who believe that the way certain socio-political structures are shaped, is heavily dependent upon and influenced by the geography that surrounds a society.
I want to make clear that I do not dismiss geographic determinism, I find it to be an interesting position, and have to concede that more often than not - geographic determinists are correct.
I would merely like to explain why I, am not a geographic determinist.

Let's have a "chicken or egg debate" about what matters more: Geography? Or Society?

Saudi Arabia may seem to many of us to be a country with a golden future. A country with enormous reserves of wealth, collected from almost a century of trading in oil and holding a monopoly on the world's hydrocarbon market. BUT... I would argue that the enormous economic power the Saudis built on the hydrocarbon market has doomed their country, as well as those of their neighbors in Qatar or the UAE. The holding of such a monopoly stagnated political development and therefore left these countries in a position of being ill-prepared for a world after oil. To showcase this, I will however take you to a different place first. The Congo

What is feudalism? A common historic materialist perception of feudalism is that it was an economic social order, enforced by a warrior elite with the help of the Christian church to exploit a European peasantry. This perception however is false. Feudalism was itself a religious social order built upon and through the institutions of the church, in response to the instability following the collapse of the Roman Empire.

A recently reemerging idea in the English speaking political landscape is that history is the story of an almost natural progression of humanity into liberty culminating within English and American democracy. This is nonsense. And it also has a name: "whig history"
In this video I would like to show you why whig history is bunk, and also detail to you how economic liberties that are so often praised by advocates of whig history, can very often result in the creation of oligarchies that then proceed to undermine and destroy the very economic liberties that created the oligarchy in the first place.

In February 2022 the foundational agreement upon which almost 50 years of European peace had been built was shattered. In light of these events, many seem unaware of what the consequences of this mean to us.
