The Lockhart Tactical Raven is a rifle platform designed and made in Canada. It comes in 9mm, 5.56, and 308 sizes. Unlike 180's like the WK180C or the WS-MCR, the Raven uses a gas tube instead of a piston.

No one paid me to mention their store here, I'm just a cheap guy looking for a deal.

The Savage Model 334 is a Turkish-made, bolt action hunting rifle. In fact, it’s a rebadged ATA Turkua. It’s priced basically the same as their Savage Axis but is it any good? To both cut to the chase AND break Betteridge’s law, it is good and it’s my new #1 recommendation for a value-priced hunting rifle.

The Mossberg 464 is an American-made lever action rifle that they brought out in 2008. From forum posts and lack of new stock at retailers, I believe that the centerfire 30-30 version is now discontinued. Can it measure up to the greats like the Winchester 94 and Marlin 336? Let’s find out!

Since they’re in the same price range, I thought I’d do a quick comparison on these two rifles.

https://www.huntinggearguy.com/rifle-reviews/savage-model-334-review/

Model 334 Advantages:
60 degree bolt throw gives more room for your hand around the scope
Smoother bolt travel
Heaver barrel
Pic rail gives more flexibility in scope mounting
Higher comb on stock gives a better cheek weld
3 position safety means you can lock the bolt

Axis Advantages:
Tang safety is easier to access
Lighter (6.44lbs on my Axis vs 7.42 lbs on the 334)
More time in-market means there are likely fewer lemons and more aftermarket parts & accessories available
4 round, flush fit magazine. It’s a better magazine.
Softer buttpad
To be honest, I think the 334 is a better rifle for the price. I’d like to see some more user feedback on them to see if they’re consistent with QC. If they prove themselves to be consistent, it’s going to be my new top recommendation for value-priced hunting rifle.

The Hi-Point 995 Carbine is a 9mm PCC made the the US. It’s the cheapest PCC you can buy ($400-600 in Canada) and has firm lovers and haters out there. I bought this one cause it was a hell of a deal and I thought it’d be fun to review.

Kyle and Adriel will hack on each other's raw match footage and hopefully learn something.

Sporterized Mausers are a pretty inexpensive rifles with very solid actions and tons of aftermarket part availability but there are a few things to watch for. I’m no expert, but I recently got my hands on 4 random Swede Mauser 96’s so I can talk to the differences and what to look for. I got these rifles from Intersurplus.

6.5 Swedish Mauser, or 6.5×55, is the oldest smokeless powder 6.5 cartridge, the OG. It was developed in the early 1890’s.

Reviewing the ubiquitous Win 94 is a bit odd but some people might want an overview of what they’re like. The Winchester 94 first came out in, shocker, 1894. Originally chambered in blackpowder cartridges 38-55 and 32-40, it was offered in .30 Winchester Centerfire (AKA 30-30) the year after. This is a very old design and one of the few rifles from that era that’s mostly been in production ever since. You can also find them in 44-40, 38 special, 44 magnum and everything in between. While it’s been available under many other cartridges, the great majority in my neck of the woods are in 30-30 as a practical deer hunting rifle. With 7+1, I wonder how many people who bought these things back in the day also intended on using it for farm defense.

This particular rifle is a 1967 Canadian Centennial edition in 30-30.

The CZ 600 series is a new centerfire, bolt action from CZ. It uses a 3 lug bolt for smaller cartridges and a 6 lug bolt for larger ones, giving it a quick, 60 degree bolt throw and is guaranteed sub-MOA.

30-30 Winchester used to be the most popular deer cartridge in the earlier part of the century but its popularity has decreased as we’ve been getting more powerful cartridges in more accurate platforms. But if you’ve still got a Marlin 336 or Winchester 94 in 30-30, you might be wondering whether 150 or 170 grain is better. Keep in mind that these 2 bullet weights are not drastically different so we’re not going to see drastic differences. I’m going to be using factory data for store-bought ammo on this comparison.

Detailed view of the trigger mechanism on the Norinco CF98

The Ternion International T870 and T870-1 are Chinese made, Remington 870 clones. At $400-500, they’re more affordable than the Remington 870 Express shotguns that they compete with and they come with more features. These shotguns were sent to me by Ternion International for review.

I started my site because I find a lot of reviews out there lacking. They'd often avoid any constructive criticism and many of the reviews online use very few images. I review bows, rifles and other hunting equipment. After doing a few video reviews, it seems that people like them, so I'd like to do more.
