I'm feeling excited! More progress from this mad musical scientist! For a while I've been toying with the idea of combining some of the rhythmic software I use for live performances. Here's a first test of 4 specific rhythm applications played simultaneously that I'm going to be using together on the fly as a drums and percussion 'kit' in future. This will potentially give me untold more rhythms. Wow! Funky Techno heaven!

Last night's live stream ~ "CLIMBER". A mix of techno, rock, soul and dub reggae. A couple of rough spots, but otherwise an uptempo mix I'm fairly happy with, considering how long it's been since I last played it. Onward!

Live-streamed from my home studio. Soulful Techno.

Live, uptempo, Arabic poly-rhythmic EDM!

A new livestream. This time broadcast to my Auckland FB group.
Enjoy. Like, share and subscribe to help me on my way. Cheers.

This set was composed to break out of a rut - Same old, same old..... to get a Circuit Breaker.......

It's been quite a while since I last uploaded a live mix. As the title suggests I've been beset with problems to overcome since arriving back in NZ earlier this year. Another reason is because I've been studying how to live stream! Here's my first live-streamed set, recently recorded. I look forward to producing more. Enjoy!
As always please like, share and subscribe to spread the vibe. Cheers.

Here's my latest live set: an homage to the late, great, soul and funk singer and dancer James Brown. I set my personal bar higher trying to adequately do justice to his fantastic legacy. I reckon it shows too, as it has pushed me to improved production skills. As such I've uploaded a high standard MP4 video weighing in at a massive1.7 Gigabytes! That makes it suitable for bigscreens and dance parties. I'm thrilled with the improved sound quality and funky polyrhythmics. I've tried to come up with something that uses contemporary sounds I imagine JB would enjoy. As always, if you use it for DJ remixes, radio etc, please acknowledge me - APE X; and provide your audience with links to my accounts to help me on my way. RIP James Brown, and thanks for many great performances.
Cheers. APE X.

Dug out from a deep dark place in my personal music archive is this gem I love. An older track from a time when I was deeply into playing atmospheric rock guitar. Back then I was at Griffith University, Queensland Batchelor of Popular Music Program, joined by the brilliant EUGENE NESCI, Propellorhead Reason genius - https://dwa.store/album/exhilarate-disgust
Listening again all these years later, I'm still awestruck at the power of this menacing industrial rock track.
It continues to inspire me with it's intensity and bombast, even though these days I don't play guitar, but instead a modular soft-synths rig. Updated with fractal video.
As always, you know the drill. if you use it for DJ remixes, radio etc, please acknowledge me - APE X and Eugene

Yet another track showing 2016 was a huge year for me musically!
This time it's a full on Rock Guitar-Trap-Soul-EDM track depicting the tragic events around that time in Ferguson, Missouri.
Updated with poweful video imagery. As always, you know the drill. if you use it for DJ remixes, radio etc, please acknowledge me - APE X; and provide your audience with links to my accounts to help me on my way. Cheers.

This one goes out to all the Hip-hop and Rap types who want a solid backing track. Or to those who just like something hard-edged with cavernous big beats and lots of swaggering atttitude to dance to. I made it at a time when I was trying out Native Instruments' sequencer - Maschine. An awesome bit of kit, but ultimately not my preferred choice for live performance.

This is the proud end result of months of hard work. Persuasion, initiation, improvisation, production, presentation.
A collaboration between some very talented students and one very driven Kiwi teacher! All instructions were given in English as I speak very little Chinese. The brief was to take total novices and teach them to use a DAW (Digital Audio Workstation), a MIDI keyboard controller, software synthesizers and music samples to produce music of high quality within a semester (12 weeks).
All tracks also had to display elements of traditional Chinese music. In effect producing various kinds of distinctly Chinese dance music, as well as more folkish and cinematic styles.
Traditional Chinese (virtual) instruments incorporated were ~
Erhu (pronounced ARHU two string 'sad violin') >>>https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dhic2cE57iM
Pipa (ancient Chines guitar) >>>https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_Z1G_GKLRTI
GuQin (pronouned Gujin) >>> https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Tlsev6ZepqE
DiZi (Bamboo Flute) >>>https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NlVrKqOHfrs
Plus temple drums, gongs and other assorted percussion.
I'll say no more and let the results speak for themself! 伟大的工作伙伴!

2016 was clearly a huge year for me musically. Here's a brief but awesome collaboration I had in South Korea with Daniel du Gard, who quickly and smartly picked up sequencing duties whilst I played Post Rock style guitar on this track. It remains one of my favorites, showcasing how wall of sound Post Rock melody can be melded together with poppy EDM. Nice one Daniel! Thank you!

Another in a sequence of tracks I made at a time when I was experimenting in melding Post Rock Guitar with EDM synths and beats. Powerful, dark, brooding and beautiful were the qualities I sought to capture sonically. Judge for youself, with this updated video.

APE X - LOOK OUT FOR A CHANGE (live Mix) 2016.
Ever heard of Techno-House-Rock? No, I hadn't….and then….this! I love the energy of this track!
After a long time away, as I prepare to re-enter New Zealand, it’s just the inspiring soundtrack I need!!
Robust, forthright, urgent, insistent, driving, daring …… all qualities I’m marshalling for arrival…..

Another track I made back in 2016, when melding heavily processed post rock guitar with EDM beats, rhythms and melodies. I like the way it turned out. Updated with some epic drone footage of my home country New Zealand. AFTER ALL I've been through spending many years far away, it's a place I'm looking forward to returning to soon!

Created at a time when I was looking to meld wall of sound post-rock with EDM to find something new.
Also around the time South Korea's top "Go" player was beaten by AI. This provocative piece throws together lush, bombastic wall of sound, with fragile, fragmented musical elements. Updated with thematic video imagery.

It's amazing what can be done with a simple touch or swipe of a screen these days. Ethnic vibes, dark moody synths, insistant driving bassline and tight beats .....

APE X ~ MAN OVERBOARD (2016) Updated with some epic visuals.
For many years I’ve enjoyed soundtracks to movies, and so inevitably this has crept into my own music production.
This is from a period when I was experimenting with a more cinematic sound score style, which I continue to enjoy and incorporate into my dance music today.

Something a bit different this time...... here's some music I put together for a movie soundtrack.
It was an important personal milestone as I experimented musically with various elements.
So, if you like deep moody morphing ambient synths alongside snappy triplet beats for a tense broody feel, then this will be right up your alley. Produced a couple of years ago when in a very introspective, reflective mood. Updated and enhanced by video that has a great twist in the tail!
