Consciousness Matters
I've thought deeply about consciousness and so has Dr Philip Goff who I think has done more to reach out to the public about panpsychism than anyone else I can think of.
I've listened to Philip and Sean Carroll disagree and I feel that there may be a solution to the problem. A resolution to the disagreement.
Qualia are great. I believe there is a redness to red that isn't entirely reducible to numbers. Though I think even if we were willing to say that the illusionists were right about qualia, there's actually another very powerful way to get to panpsychism.
So I was delighted to be able to sit down with Philip and exchange ideas.

When you have psi experiences directly yourself, experiencing tends to be believing. I outline the sorts of psi experiences that I've had in the first part of the video, to be followed by what happened when I tried to look for evidence of what I'd experienced personally, in science. I make the case for and against psi in an episode that I can only imagine will have a bit of something for everyone and be challenging to most people too.

Belief, whatever you chose to believe about belief, the chances are someone else will believe something different. Surely it's in these differences that we can find the commonalities and start to explore what belief really is? To start, we'll consider the notion of religion and how that relates to belief. Next, we'll look at Darwinian vs Newtonian thinking. Thirdly we'll look at a perspective that sounds very much like a coding perspective. Finally we'll look at more traditional styles of argument and see how those compare to the more intellectual perspectives on belief.
I did consider how I might articulate my own case fairly directly, but when I did the research for this video, I realised that The Art of Story had done more or less just what I wanted to do, only with a quality and elocquence that I would find nearly impossible to produce in the production schedule for the Ontological Rabbit Hole. I'm sorry guys, at the moment it's taking me a month per episode to get just right, though I'm trying to increase that now I'm settling into functional habbits from my more creative fluid intelligence appraoch. Hmmm... seems I've been learning on the way.
