Ammonium nitrate + Sulfuric acid method of nitration with excellent yield and good price.

I totally forgot to had part of washing AND deacidification AND recrystallization, because it is so obvious.
The final product you can see at the end is totally washed 5 to 10 time with 5% sodium bicarbonate until PH of white past reach 7.5.
It take hours...

At this day, I have made between 60 to 80 nitrations of ETN since several years, and I think it is a good idea to share it !
By the way, ETN runaway is far away less dangerous than some other polyols/alcool like nitroglycerin and don't explode (but nothing guaranties that it will not happen !)

Test of plastic explosive.
After the failure of PETN/Nitroglycol 64/36 who just slightly curve the 10mm steel plate that we can see on this test, I tried nitroglycerin who have a better VOD.
And indeed it works !
It's pretty powerfull.
I use "standard" tests with 30mm paper cylinder on 10mm steel plate. I fill this container with 30g of plastic with a detonator at the top.

The detonator was 1g ETN at 1.6g/CC.

Test of 30g of plastic against steel plate of 10mm.
The plastic composition is 64% PETN + 36%EGDN.

I thought it would be the most brisant plastic explosive... But not at all.
I guess that EGDN, as nitroglycerin, had two velocity of detonation and the detonator ignite the lowest one.
But as the steel plate is well deformed, I think that the blow-up power is better than most brisant explosives, so better for some kind of demolition.
By the way, It is mandatory to use mask and glove because EGDN is very volatile and give headaches in some minutes or secondes if you toutch it !!

A simple machine for nitration of liquid polyols, like mono-ethylene glycol, glycerol,...
Here, 225g of pure ethylene glycol is dropped in a mixture of pure NH4NO3 + H2SO4 98% according to the method 1/4/10 (in weight).

After 80minutes, the yields was 460g of EGDN, but I can't remove all the material of the mixture.
83.5% is a good yield without nitric acid, but the decantation is long and not really a good idea in presence of strong acids.

ANFO + Al 325mesh (45 microns max) in 90/4/6 by weight -> 600g
Booster : 200g of AN+Al 95/5
Detonator : 1.5G of PETN+0.3g TATP
Container : plastic bottle laid on the floor
Density of ANFO+Al : 1.25 +/-0.02

First time, I have try just 1.5g PETN detonator but it failed, because, probably, the Al powder was stabilized by stearine so harder to ignite.
The booster was excessive, but as I've lost 600g of the full bottle the first time, in the explosion, so the second time, I've put larger amount.
Sorry for the end of video, my battery fall down... But no big crater, only some earth turned over 1 meter.
Nothing to see with high explosives !!

Stabilisation of TATP with mineral oil (oil for engine).
The consistency look like to modeling clay, like C4, but far away less brisant and powerful !

TATP is an extremely dangerous primary explosive, especially by friction.

ETN Plastic, about 50g VS 8mm steel plate.

Plasticier is 15% PI/PIB (Polyisobutylene)

But further tests show that mineral oil + PIB are better and enable to decrease the ration to about 12%.

ETN is less easy than PETN to plasticize.
And even if wikipedia or other unexperimented documents said there are no degradation in storage, ETN is less stable chemically and is weaker to strong acids than PETN, I can see that in nitration.
In your hands, you can see that PETN is more "synthetic" so probably more stable chemically.
