FREQUENT REMEMBRANCE OF ALLAH SUBHANAHU WA TA`ALA [DHIKR] Which status would be higher than having your humble person appreciated and mentioned by Allah Almighty to a gathering of high-esteemed Angels?

That is only one of the many valuable advantages you gain trough frequent remembrance of Allah (dhikr Allah). The special position of this easy act of worship is frequently emphasized by the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) who “used to remember Allah all the time” (Abu Dawud)

Reviewing reward promised for those who remember Allah should fill us with pity for all the hours we waste without seizing these amazingly easy opportunities.

The following collection reveals the significance of this beautiful type of worship and the great reward you can reap through it.

Best Deed
1. Abu Ad-Darda’ (May Allah be pleased with him) narrated that the Prophet said:

“Shall I not inform you of the best of your actions, the purest in the sight of your Lord, which raises your rank to the highest, which is better for you than spending gold and silver, better than meeting your enemy so that you strike at their necks and they strike at yours?’ They replied: ‘Yes, indeed,’ and he said: ‘It is the remembrance of Allah.” (At-Tirmidhi)

2. Abu Hurairah (May Allah be pleased with him) narrated that the Prophet said:

“Allah says, “I treat My servant as he hopes that I would treat him. I am with him whenever he remembers Me:

if he thinks of Me, I think of him; if he mentions Me in company, I mention him in an even better company. If he draws near to Me a hand’s span, I draw near to him an arm’s length; and if he draws near to Me an arm’s length, I draw closer by a distance of two outstretched arms nearer to him; and if he comes to Me walking, I go to him running.” (Al-Bukhari and Muslim)

3. Abu Musa Al-Ash`ari (May Allah be pleased with him) narrated that the Prophet said:

Be Mindful of Allah, And Allah will Protect You. Abdullah bin Abbas (R.A) narrated Hazrat Muhammad (PBUH) saying as:

“One day I was behind the Prophet (PBUH) and he said to me, Young man! I shall teach you some words (of advice): Be mindful of Allah, and Allah will protect you. Be mindful of Allah, and you will find Him in front of you. If you ask, ask Allah; if you seek help, seek help from Allah. Know that if the nation were to gather to benefit you with anything, it would only benefit you with something that Allah has already prescribed for you, and that if they gather to harm you with anything, they would only harm you with something Allah has already prescribed for you. The pen has been lifted and the pages have dried.” (Tirmidhi)

Strengthening Relationship With Allah

The strong sense of faith in the Oneness of the Almighty needs to be accompanied by working for building and fortifying the connection with Him. Majority of us Muslims take this belief as a guarantee to be true believers, when actually it asks for constant remembrance of Allah SWT for being able to receive His safety and guidance. While on the other hand, unfortunately, we strive to cling on to our worldly relationships with a hope to take something in return from our associations, who would only remember us in good times and forget us in bad times. But, Allah considers all His disciples alike and relieves them in tough period. Some of the ways to nurturing this link with the Glorious One are to fulfilling religious matters like offering Salah (prayers) five times a day, supplicating in front of Him, understanding of the Holy Quran, fasting, and giving Zakah (alms) to poor etc.

“And when My servants ask you, [O Muhammad], concerning Me – indeed I am near. I respond to the invocation of the supplicant when he calls upon Me. So let them respond to Me [by obedience] and believe in Me that they may be [rightly] guided.” [Quran, 2: 186]

So, when we try to reinforce our relationship with Allah, H..

An Example Of Yaqeen In Allah From The Darkest Time Of Rasulullah (ﷺ). The word يَقِينِ ‘yaqeen’ means solid conviction. It is the kind of knowledge which is more than just knowing something. Yaqeen is even stronger than emaan. It is something you are absolutely convinced about or you are fully sure about it.

There are 3 types of Yaqeen .And we come to know about this from the tafseer Surah at-Takathur and Surah Waqia .

1. Ilm al Yaqeen – yaqeen based on knowledge.
2. Ayn al Yaqeen – yaqeen based on seeing
3. Haq al Yaqeen – yaqeen based on feeling.

For example, seeing smoke signifies fire even if we can’t see the fire. This is ilm ul yaqeen . We know that Smoke signifies fire through our Knowledge. Now we know something is burning when we actually see the fire , it is called Ayn al Yaqeen and We will be convinced there is fire when we feel its burning or warmth. This is called Haq al Yaqeen.

Ilm-ul-yaqeen (the knowledge of certainty)

The first type of yaqeen is referred to by the name ‘ilm-ul-yaqeen (the knowledge of certainty), which means that certainty is the result of knowledge. At this degree the object of certainty is knowledge just as the aim of knowledge is certainty.

In Ayah (102 :5 ) Allah subhanahu wa ta’ala states

كَلاَّ لَوْ تَعْلَمُونَ عِلْمَ الْيَقِينِ
“Nay! If you only knew with knowledge of certainty.”

Implication of Ilm ul Yaqeen : Quran is Ilm ul Yaqeen . Through the ilm of Quran we have the yaqeen on day of Resurrection.

Ayn-ul-yaqeen (the vision of certainty)

The second type of yaqeen is ayn-ul-yaqeen (the vision of certainty), that is, certainty as a consequence of contemplation and vision.

Implication of Ayn ul Yaqeen : Allah subhanahu wa ta’ala then says in Quran (102: 7),

ثُمَّ لَتَرَوُنَّهَا عَيْنَ الْيَقِينِ
“Then you shall most certainly see it with certainty of sight.”

This means that when We will see the day of Resurrection with your own eyes ,then we will convinced of what we were being warned about it in the wor..

The Abandonment of the Qur'an. The Mobile Muslims. It is known as “al-Kitab” (the Book). It is so well known and highly revered that when any Muslim refers to “the Book,” it is understood to mean the Holy Qur’an. It is the book above all books because it is the complete and final revelation of Allah subhanahu wa ta`ala (exalted is He) to mankind. It is the best of speech, the way of guidance, the book of wisdom, and it will remain unchanged and protected until the Day of Judgement. Muslims usually decorate its pages and outside cover and always place it on the highest shelf in their homes to signify its elevated status. Most Muslims begin the most important ceremonies of their lives with the recitation of its blessed words. Yet when it is recited, few are those who listen to it carefully and even fewer are those who understand it. Yet still fewer are those who ponder its meanings and dedicate their life to its study. A human would never abstain from the elements that are necessary for nourishing his body, yet so many humans go for extended periods of time depriving themselves from that which nourishes the hearts and the minds—the Holy Qur’an.

Ibn Masood (radi Allahu `anhu – may Allah be pleased with him), a famous companion of the Prophet ﷺ (peace be upon him) said: “None of you needs to ask himself [about anything] except for the Qur’an: If he loves the Qur’an, he loves Allah, and if he detests the Qur’an, he detests Allah and His Messenger ﷺ.”1 Hence, there is a direct correlation between one’s relationship with Allah and his relationship with the Qur’an. This is the case because the Qur’an is our source of knowledge about the truth of all matters, what Allah (swt) likes and dislikes, and the nature of His essence and actions. It is our connection to Allah (swt) and that is why He ordered us to recite it in each of our daily prayers. Therefore, he who abandons the Qur’an has, in fact, abandoned his connection and relationship with Allah (swt).

EVERY PEOPLE WILL FOLLOW THEIR LORD. The Day Of Judgement.
(57:12) On that Day you will see believing men and women that their light will be running before them and on their right hands.17 (They will be told): “A good tiding to you today.” There shall be Gardens beneath which rivers flow; therein they shall abide. That indeed is the great triumph.
17. This and the following verses show that the light on the Day of Judgment will be specifically meant for the righteous believers only. As for the disbelievers and the hypocrites and the wicked people, they will be wandering about in the darkness as they had been in the world. The light there will be the light of righteous deeds. The sincerity of the faith and the piety of the character and conduct will turn into light that will lend brightness to the personality of the virtuous. The brighter the deed the more luminous will be his person, and when he will walk towards Paradise, his light will be running forward before him. The best explanation of it is Qatadah’s mursal tradition in which he says; The Prophet (peace be upon him) said: The light of some one will be so strong and sharp that it will be running on before him equal to the distance between Al-Madinah and Aden, of another equal to the distance between Madinah and Sana, and of another even less than that; so much so that there will be a believer whose light will jsut extend beyond his steps. (Ibn Jarir). In other words, the intensity of the light of a person will be proportionate to the extent of the good done and spread by him in the world, and the beams of his light will be running on before him in the Hereafter extending as far as his good will have extended in the world.

ANGEL GIBRIL AS IS SHOCKED BY THESE PEOPLE. The name Jibreel is broken down and translates as: Jibra (‘Abd/Slave) + Eel (Allah) = Jibreel (Abdullah/Slave of Allah). All inhabitants of heaven obey and respect Jibreel, not because he is fierce but because he is trustworthy. One of Jibreel’s names is an-Namoos, the keeper of the secret (revelation). This is the opposite of jasoos, a spy, which generally has negative or evil connotations. Other variations of the name include Jibraeel and Jibreen. Sometimes the Prophet (SAW) would say Jibreel SalAllahu Alayhi Wasallam.

Jibreel (AS) apportions the commands of Allah (SWT) and is responsible for revelation and war, war being against those who reject revelation. He is responsible for the light in our heart through bringing us the revelation. He brings us our soul and gives us life by giving us revelation.

Jibreel (AS) has 600 wings… Pearls and diamonds drip from these wings… Dehya ibn Kalbi (RA) was the most handsome of the Companions of Muhammad (SAW) and it is narrated that he resembled Jibreel…

BROTHERHOOD IN ISLAM | THE BELIEVERS ARE BUT BROTHERS. 49.10. The believers are but brothers, so make peace between your brothers; and keep from disobedience to God in reverence for Him and piety (particularly in your duties toward one another as brothers), so that you may be shown mercy (granted a good, virtuous life in the world as individuals and as a community, and eternal happiness in the Hereafter).

10. The believers are but brothers, so make peace between your brothers; and keep from disobedience to God in reverence for Him and piety (particularly in your duties toward one another as brothers), so that you may be shown mercy (granted a good, virtuous life in the world as individuals and as a community, and eternal happiness in the Hereafter).7

7. The last two verses mean that all the believers are brothers and sisters, who are dutiful to one another in this relationship. It hints that there may be quarrels, even fighting, among brothers, which may sometimes arise from rivalry and jealousy. Even if they quarrel and fight with one another, they are still brothers and sisters, and brotherhood and sisterhood require peace. If, despite the fact that there cannot be enmity among them, two parties of believers dispute or fight with each other, the other believers, who are brothers and sisters to them, must reconcile them immediately and make peace between them as required by such a relationship. When they are reconciled and have made peace, they must be meticulous in acting according to the precepts of justice. Since quarrels among brothers and sisters usually break out because of rivalry and jealousy, dispensing justice with great care is particularly important.

Brotherhood (and sisterhood) is very important for both the individual and social life of the believers. In particular, their prosperity in the world and superiority against their..

HOW TO DEAL WITH THE ILLNESS OF WEAK IMAAN (FAITH) | BEAUTIFUL REMINDER. Life is full of ups and downs, and the downs are sometimes powerful enough to distract us and lower our enthusiasm. Yet, there are easy solutions that can help us get over an Iman low. Here are some tips that can help you refresh your Iman in sha Allah:

1) Have the will to start again
Of course you’ve heard of the saying: where there is a will, there is a way. As cliché as it sounds, the reality is: nothing will change unless you decide to take action. It all starts within you: if you want to be active, you will be active and nothing will stop you in sha Allah. Just take the decision not to surrender to your desires, make du’aa to Allah to help you stick to your decision and watch how everything will go as you wish and even better, in sha Allah!

2) Do not neglect your salah
Whatever happens, even if you pray it with wavering concentration, do not stop praying; especially salatul Fajr and Isha. Abu Hurairah raḍyAllāhu 'anhu (may Allāh be pleased with him) reported that the Messenger of Allah ṣallallāhu 'alayhi wa sallam (peace and blessings of Allāh be upon him) said:

“No prayer is more burdensome to the hypocrites than the Fajr (dawn) prayer and the ‘Isha’ (night) prayer; and if they knew their merits, they would come to them even if they had to crawl to do so.” [Bukhari and Muslim]

Nobody wants to be like those described as hypocrites. Remember, you are good and you’re just trying to get back to what you used to be. It’s alright to take a break from other productive activities once in a while to renew your enthusiasm, but take care to guard your compulsory obligations. Never let them slip!

3) Randomly open the Qur’an and see what Allah subḥānahu wa ta'āla (glorified and exalted be He) wants to tell you
The Qur’an is the nourishment of every person’s soul, the light of the heart and guidance to the straight path.

Allah subḥānahu wa ta'āla (glorified and exalted be He) says:

“Indeed, t..

AHADITH RELATED WOMEN. SAYINGS OF RASULULLAH SAWS PART 2.Dear sister in Islam, we commend your keenness on getting your self well-acquainted with Islam and its teachings, which is the way Allah has chosen for the welfare of His servants.

Islam does not prohibit women from going out to fulfill their needs but it lays down a proper code of behavior, which is primarily intended to safeguard the modesty, dignity and honor of men and women. Allah, the Creator of humans, knows our nature better than ourselves, and thus He has prescribed appropriate rules of behavior and appearance to be observed when men and women interact with one another in a social milieu. These rules of interaction also include a prescription for modesty in dress, talk and walk, etc.
1- Lowering the gaze: Indeed, the most precious ornament of a woman is modesty, and the best expression of modesty is in the lowering of the gaze, as Almighty Allah says, […And tell the believing women that they should lower their gazes…] (An-Nur 24: 31)

2- Not intermingling with men in such a way that their bodies come in contact or that men touch women, as happens so often today in the movies, theaters, university classrooms, auditoriums, buses, streetcars, and the like. Ma`qal ibn Yasar narrated that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said,“It is better for one of you to be pricked in the head with an iron pick than to touch a woman whom it is unlawful to touch.”(Reported by at-Tabarani and al-Bayhaqi)

3- Her clothing must conform to the standards laid down by the Islamic Shari`ah, which are as follows:

a) Her dress must cover her entire body with the exception of[that which is apparent] (An-Nur 24: 31) which, according to the most preferable interpretation, refers to the face and hands.

b) It must not be transparent, revealing what is underneath it. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) has informed us that, “Among the dwellers of hell are such women as are clothed yet naked, sedu..

DEATH OF THE BEST OF THE MUSLIMS - UMAR IBN AL-KHATTAB AL FARUQ [RA] His death as a martyr, may Allah be pleased with him Anas ibn Malik, may Allah be pleased with him, said, “The Prophet, prayers and peace of Allah be upon him, ascended the mountain of Uhud and he was accompanied by Abu Bakr, ‘Umar and ‘Uthman. ALLAH SWT PROMISES THE MUSLIM UMMAH (NATION) VICTORY | POWERFUL REMINDER. Despite the fact that the Prophet Muhammad (saw) is the best of all creation, he (saw) did not become victorious over the Quraish until the 8th year after Hijra– only two years before his death (saw).

During the period in Makkah, the sahabah experienced severe oppression. For example, the Quraish would torture Khabbab bin Al-Aratt (ra) by pulling his hair and twisting his neck, while making him lie on burning coal with a big rock on his chest. In this context, Khabbab (ra) narrated:

“We complained to Allah’s Apostle (of the persecution inflicted on us by the infidels) while he was sitting in the shade of the Ka’ba, leaning over his Burd (i.e. covering sheet). We said to him, “Would you seek help for us? Would you pray to Allah for us?” He said, “Among the nations before you a (believing) man would be put in a ditch that was dug for him, and a saw would be put over his head and he would be cut into two pieces; yet that (torture) would not make him give up his religion. His body would be combed with iron combs that would remove his flesh from the bones and nerves, yet that would not make him abandon his religion. By Allah, this religion (i.e. Islam) will prevail till a traveler from Sana (in Yemen) to Hadrarmaut will fear none but Allah, or a wolf as regards his sheep, but you (people) are hasty.” [Bukhari]

Despite the hardship faced by the sahabah and Rasulullah (saw) faced, they needed to remain steadfast and patient. Consequently, we must ensure our actions are in-line with this idea. We must not surrender an inch of occupied land to the aggressors. We must work to re-establish the Khilafah. When will the Victory of Allah come?

In such trying circumstances, we may ask the question; ”When will the Victory (Nasr) of Allah come?”

Firstly, we have no knowledge of when we will be blessed with the victory of Allah (swt). This is because Allah (swt) has not given a specific timeframe for vict..

HANDHALA [RA] SAHABI OF RASULULLAH WASHED BY THE ANGELS. Share Share on Facebook Share on Twitter Share to Google+ Share on Linkedin Share on Pinterest
Hanzala Ibn Abi Amir was a valiant man who longed to become a martyr. He got married one day before the Battle of Uhud and left home to fight the polytheists at Uhud the next morning. His dead body was washed by angels.

He was one of the notables of the Aws tribe. He was very strong and shrewd; he had high ethics. Before Islam, he used to live in seclusion and worship. He practiced the religion of Hanif. He liked living in seclusion. He hated worshipping idols.

Hanzala Ibn Abi Amir became a Muslim after the Messenger of Allah (pbuh) came to Madinah. His father, Abu Amir, was together with the enemies of the Prophet. When the Prophet came to Madinah, he went to Makkah and joined the polytheists. Therefore, he was given the nickname fasiq.

Hanzala (r.a.) was known as “Taqi” (pious) among his friends. He had high ethics. The belief in his heart became exuberant. He was always together with the Messenger of Allah. His father joined Makkan polytheists with a group of fifty people from his tribe and formed a front against the Messenger of Allah (pbuh).

Hanzala took part in the Battles of Badr and Uhud; he fought heroically. He was single when he took part in the Battle of Badr. A little while after this battle, he got engaged to Abdullah Ibn Ubayy Ibn Salul's daughter, Jamila, who became a Muslim. Their marriage took place one day before the Battle of Uhud. On the night of the marriage, the Messenger of Allah and his Companions were going to set off to go to Uhud. He asked permission from the Messenger of Allah (pbuh) to spend the night at home. The prophet gave him the permission.

Hanzala, who had just got married, spent the night with his wife. He left home early in the morning and caught up with the Prophet at Uhud. When the Prophet arranged the ranks for the battle, he joined the Companions.

THE RULERS REFLECT THE STATUS OF THE PEOPLE. A state becomes Islamic when its rules and policies derive from the Islamic ‘Aqīdah (creed) i.e. when their basis is the Qur’ān and Sunnah; meaning the sovereignty lies with the Sharī’ah. That is why obedience to the rulers is restricted and not unqualified.

“O you who believe! Obey Allāh, Obey His Messenger and those in authority from amongst you; and if you differ, then refer it to Allāh and His Messenger, if you believe in Allāh and the Last Day. That is the best thing to do and gives the best result.” [Al-Nisā: 4:59]

This noble verse in Surah al-Nisā comes after verse 58, which focused on the rulers when they were enjoined to rule by justice – which is nothing other than what Allāh سبحانه وتعالى has revealed (i.e. the Qur’ān and the Sunnah). In this verse, the focus is on the Muslims under the authority of the rulers, and their responsibility. In this respect the message of this ayah is addressed to the Ummah at large and we can learn from it the following matters:

The āyah (verse) begins with the imperative (command) form verb atī’ū (‘obey’): the subject of obedience (i.e. those who obey) is in plural form, meaning ‘ALL those who believe in Islām’; and the object of obedience (i.e. the one who is obeyed) is Allāh سبحانه وتعالى. The verse then repeats the command atī’ū (obey) and this time the object of obedience is the Messenger صلى الله عليه وسلم. The repetition of the word ‘obey’ and the order indicates the two basic reference points that Muslims have: the Qur’ān and Sunnah. Therefore anything in contravention of Qur’ān and Sunnah must be disobeyed, and anything from the Qur’ān and Sunnah must be obeyed. This is the prin..

A SCARY STORY ABOUT WOMEN'S FITNA (TEMPTATION) One of the fitnahs (temptations) with which we are tested is the fitnah of women, as the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said: “I have not left behind me any fitnah (temptation) more harmful to men than women.” There follow some of the methods by which we can avoid this temptation. We ask Allaah to set the affairs of the Muslims straight.

1 – Faith in Allaah.

Faith in Allaah and fear of Allaah provide a safety valve and protect a person against committing haraam actions and following his own whims and desires.

If the believer becomes aware that Allaah is always watching and if he ponders the meanings of His names and attributes, such as the All-Knowing, the All-Hearing, the All-Seeing, the Watchful, the Reckoner, the Preserver, the All-Encompassing, that will generate fear of Him in secret and in public, and will put a stop to disobedience towards Allaah, and will reduce the strength of desire that leads many people to commit haraam actions.

2 – Lowering the gaze and avoiding looking at haraam things

The gaze can generate bad thoughts in the heart, which then lead to ideas and then to desires, then to will and resolve, and then inevitably to doing haraam things. Think about the meaning of this verse which makes a connection between the first steps towards haraam and the end result. Allaah says (interpretation of the meaning):

“Tell the believing men to lower their gaze (from looking at forbidden things), and protect their private parts (from illegal sexual acts). That is purer for them. Verily, Allaah is All-Aware of what they do”

[al-Noor 24:30]

Ibn Katheer said: “This is a command from Allaah to His believing slaves, to lower their gaze and avoid looking at that which is forbidden to them so that they only look at that which they are permitted to look at. If it so happens that a person’s gaze accidentally falls upon something haraam, he should turn his gaze away from it quickly.

BELIEVE IN THE PROMISE OF ALLAH.THE STORY OF THE MOTHER OF MUSA AS (MOSES) it needs to be pointed out that the story of Musa alayhi salam is the most mentioned story in the Quran, and thus it would not do justice to the story through just one or two articles. This article will look at the story of the Mother of Musa alayha salam as she strove to save her child from almost imminent death, and derive lessons from that. We will only focus on the ayaat in Surah Qasas in the Quran, even though the story is mentioned in other places in the Quran as well.

7 We inspired Moses’ mother, saying, ‘Suckle him, and then, when you fear for his safety, put him in the river: do not be afraid, and do not grieve, for We shall return him to you and make him a messenger.’ 8 Pharaoh’s household picked him up––later to become an enemy and a source of grief for them: Pharaoh, Haman, and their armies were wrongdoers––9 and Pharaoh’s wife said, ‘Here is a joy to behold for me and for you! Do not kill him: he may be of use to us, or we may adopt him as a son.’ They did not realize what they were doing. 10 Soon after, Moses’ mother felt a void in her heart––if We had not strengthened it to make her one of those who believe, she would have revealed everything about him––11 and she said to his sister, ‘Follow him.’ So she watched him from a distance, without them knowing. 12 We had ordained that he would refuse to feed from wet nurses. His sister approached them and said, ‘Shall I tell you about a household which could bring him up for you and take good care of him?’ 13 We restored him to his mother in this way, so that she might be comforted, not grieve, and know that God’s promise is true, though most of them do not know. [Quran 28:7-13]

Firawn saw a dream wherein he saw that a child from the slave class- the Children of Israel- would rise up and overthrow him. And after that, he started to murder every male child that was born to the Children of Israel. It was at a time like this that Mus..

Basic Facts and Information on Surah Ghafir
Surah (Chapter) Number: 40
Number of Verses: 85
English Meaning: Forgiver of sins
Number of Sajdahs in this chapter: 0
Covered in section (Juz): 24
Select Topics Discussed in Surah Ghafir
The following are some of the topics that are discussed in Surah Ghafir.

The surah starts with the special letters of ‘Ha Meem’ that Allah revealed in the various parts of the Quran but none other than Him know their meanings.
Allah reminds us that He revealed the Quran and its message to mankind.
Although He forgives sins, and accepts repentance but He is also severe in punishment against those who disbelieve.
Allah tells the prophet in these verses to not be taken away by those who disbelieve. Such are the people who dispute regarding Allah’s verses and signs.
Many such people from the various nations such as the nation of Prophet Noah and the confederates after them planned and plotted against their messengers and against the message of truth of Allah but Allah seized them with severe punishment and established the word of Truth.
The surah (Chapter) then describes the angels that hold Allah’s throne and other angels around it, who are constantly glorifying Allah’s Greatness but yet at the same time they are asking forgiveness for the believers in the Oneness of Allah and His message of Truth and are asking to bless with His rewards. (This a dua in verses 7 to 9).
Allah will then address those sinners in the hell fire who used to be each other’s friends but now were each other’s enemies. They would confess to their wrongdoing of resisting the message of Islam and would recognize that they were dead twice (once before they were born and then died after living their lives on earth) and that A..

Assassination of Uthman ibn Affan RA & the Fitna between Ali and Muawiyah. Uthman ibn Affan[1] was a man so loved by Prophet Muhammad, may the mercy and blessings of God be upon him, that he was called the possessor of two lights. Uthman was married to Prophet Muhammad’s daughter Ruqiayah and when she died, he married Muhammad’s other daughter, Umm Kulthum, thus possessing the two lights.

Uthman ibn Affan was appointed Caliph (leader of the Muslim nation) through a process of consultation and careful deliberation. On his deathbed, Omar ibn Al Khattab appointed a council of six men to choose a new leader. It was a time of confusion and chaos for the Muslims, small disagreements were becoming obstacles. Some people wanted to appoint Ali ibn Abu Talib because he was from Prophet Muhammad’s family, others wanted to appoint Uthman because he was from one of the great tribes of Mecca. Ibn Kathir, the respected Islamic scholar of the 14th century suggests that the leader of the council, Abdu Rahman ibn Awf questioned both men and then chose Uthman.

Abdurrahman asked Ali, “Do you swear to rule by the glorious book of God (Quran) and the Sunnah (traditions) of His messenger?” To which he replied, “I hope to act according to my best knowledge and capacity”. When Abdurrahman asked Uthman the same question, he replied simply, “I do”. It would be too simplistic to suggest that the decision was made solely by the answer to this question but rather it was part of a process of reflection and deliberation. Both men were amongst several who were eminently qualified to lead the Muslim nation. Uthman was a man known to be pious, generous, and modest, perhaps his simple answer reflected his personality. A shy man, who spoke few words but whose heart was filled with love for God and His messenger.

Immediately after being elected, Uthman ibn Affan addressed the people from the minbar previously used by Prophet Muhammad. He looked at the Muslims and praised God, sent ble..

Umar Ibn Al Khattab [RA] | FOUNDATIONS OF GOVERMENT Sahaba Series Part 6. Narrated by Aslam: Ibn Umar asked me about some matters concerning Umar. He said, “Since Allah’s Apostle died, I have never seen anybody more serious, hardworking and generous than Umar bin Al−Khattab (till the end of his life).”
Sahih Al-Bukhari – Book 57 Hadith 36

PRE CONVERSION TO ISLAM

Little is documented about his life prior to his submission to Islam. We know that Umar was born into a respected Quraish family, thirteen years after the Messenger SAW was born. He learnt to read and write whilst still a child, which was rare in Mecca at that time. A merchant by trade, he was widely travelled as a result. He was a large man, it was said that he never walked among a group of men except that he was the tallest amongst them. He was a skilled horseman and was notorious for his fearsome temper. By some accounts, he was left handed, while others report him to be ambidextrous. His swiftness of temper, coupled with his extraordinary strength, made a terrifying and intimidating combination. However, he was also renowned for his strong sense of justice, and time proved that he judged himself harsher than he did anyone else.

Prior to becoming Muslim, he was a sworn enemy of Islam. The idea of Muhammad SAW preaching the Oneness of God in Mecca enraged Umar greatly, as he saw this as a great outrage and insult to the pagan practices of his forefathers. Umar was openly hostile, and even physically violent, to those who embraced Islam. Even when his slave-girl accepted Islam, he beat her on a daily basis until he was exhausted and said “I stopped because I am tired, not out of pity for you”.
