Scotland has many stories of aquatic creatures taking another form and venturing on land. Up and down the country you will find stories of the selkies and mermaids. Parts of the Ayrshire coast are blessed to have the occasional seal visitor and this is the story of

It could be argued that major catastrophic and disastrous events don’t really hit home to us until we release how close we are to the event itself. Something could happen on the other side of the world but there could be someone involved in lived or grew up in the same country, the same town or the same street as you. It is in this mindset that we recount one of the biggest tragedies of the 20th century and how it connects with Ayrshire’s past. This is the story of the sinking of the Lusitania and the three towns.

Everyone loves creepy and abandoned places like castles, ruined buildings and old houses that have been left empty by generations past. We are drawn to these places and some even venture into the world of exploration to see what has been left inside. Like anywhere else in the world, Ayrshire has had it’s share of abandoned and sometimes creepy places, and one of these places was Ravenspark Hospital.

A music video for the Black Sabbath song "Odin's Court / Valhalla" from The Tyr album, inspired by the 2022 viking epic.

Despite being a coastal county, Ayrshire has suprisingly few stories related to mermaids from the deep. There is however one story, the story of the mermaid of knockdolian.

Who likes castles?

Overlooking the quiet, picturesque beach of Ardrossan, a dark shadow hangs over the town. That shadow is Ardrossan Castle. Located on canon hill, the crumbling ruins of the former stronghold lie abandoned like a ghost from the past.

Yes, it’s a Scottish accent, I know it’s difficult to understand.

Walking along the picturesque and windswept north shore between the towns of Ardrossan and West Kilbride you’ll see breathtaking views of the Isle of Arran, rolling waves, perhaps even the occasional seal or dolphin. But no matter where you look, there’s one geographical feature that will instantly grab your attention. It’s name is Horse Isle. What is it? What does it do? Find out in this episode of Ayrshire Legends.

The intro for my new series Ayrshire Legends. The Scottish county of Ayrshire has a long and expansive history of folklore, myths and folk tales and sadly it’s something that has been pushed to the side or forgotten over time. Ghosts, Witches, Crumbling Castles, Epic Battles, even The Devil himself, you name it we’ve had it at some time or another. The purpose of Ayrshire Legends is to create videos about these myths and tales, visiting some of the actual locations and creating an immersive atmosphere to take the viewer back in time and bring these legends back into people’s minds and try and present an alternative image of Ayrshire as a place filled with rich history and characters.
