Der Ausspruch Deutschland erwache hat seinen Ursprung im Gedicht Sturm! Sturm! Sturm! (1919) von Dietrich Eckart, in dem die jeweils letzte Zeile lautet:
"Deutschland, erwache, erwache!"
Später wurde der Ausspruch auch der Titel des Liedes „Deutschland erwache“, dessen Melodie Hans Ganßer schrieb. Der Text, der auch zur Melodie des Sachsenmarsches der NSDAP gesungen wurde, stammt von Bruno Schestak und wurde 1937 Adolf Hitler gewidmet. Das Lied war Kampflied der SA.
