Episode XXV Side B
AFFILIATE LINK to "Brave New World" By Aldous Huxley, which directly deals with the implications of Taylorism on Society: http://amzn.to/2DFmkIS

Modern society has been in the making for a few hundred years now, and the structure has been in place for well over one hundred years. Where once people produced what they needed, the rise of the age of manufacture made work take on a whole new form.

Have you ever felt like a cog in a wheel? Have you heard "eat, consume, sleep, die?" These feelings and many others that permeate our culture and thought are directly related to the breakdown of human life and activity to mechanical processes and events. How did this happen? Thank Frederick Taylor and his acolytes!

Episode XXV Side A
AFFILIATE LINK to "From Taylorism to Fordism" by B Doray, an excellent analysis of the history: http://amzn.to/2CJBBa6

Modern society has been in the making for a few hundred years now, and the structure has been in place for well over one hundred years. Where once people produced what they needed, the rise of the age of manufacture made work take on a whole new form.

Bureaucrats, managers, social science, and a host of other people and forces actively shape the way we live and see the world today, but when did this start? Why is automation such an inevitability? Why is work so dull and dreadful? Welcome to Taylorism!

episode XXIV
AFFILIATE LINK to "Propaganda" By Edward Bernays, a nice introduction to modern propaganda: http://amzn.to/2BBF0bn

There are hundreds of interests in a modern society, and the information available to the average person is more abundant than at any time ever before. People may not be able to be directly controlled, but through emotional appeals and narratives, they can be brought to conclusions which come to benefit certain interests or organizations, a process known today as "Public Relations" or more truthfully, propaganda.

What is propaganda? Where does the term come from? What are its uses? How do you spot it? These questions and more are addressed in this episode!

episode XXIII: side C
AFFILIATE LINK to "The Growth of a Legend" by Langenhove, referenced in the video: http://amzn.to/2z1cf87

In the modern world, most states are more or less organized in democratic means of some kind, or must contend with popular ideas and opinions which the people in those states come up with and believe. But what is a public opinion, what are public affairs, and how do the thoughts in the heads of millions of people translate into public policy?

With a grasp of public opinion and some of the problems overall, we look at one final hurdle: stereotypes. Stereotypes are images we have that we project onto the world, and in a sense you understand things before you really see them. Then, we boil down democracy to all it really is, and why that may be a problem.

Episode XXIII: Side B
AFFILIATE LINK to "Analytical Psychology" by Carl Jung, which is referenced a bit throughout this episode: http://amzn.to/2AZhFCR

n the modern world, most states are more or less organized in democratic means of some kind, or must contend with popular ideas and opinions which the people in those states come up with and believe. But what is a public opinion, what are public affairs, and how do the thoughts in the heads of millions of people translate into public policy?

In this part, we take a look at the problems that occur when someone attempts to gain facts and insight into an event which has occurred outside of his experience. Who heard the news you were told? Who saw it? What did they believe, and how capable of critical reasoning are you at this very moment?

I'll talk a bit about their culture and the Polis, and we'll go start a successful Athenian colony! Like I've said, we'll be doing a sort of cyclical arch for all the videos, so there will be more on Bronze and early Iron age to come!
Got the audio de-sync from last video fixed (switched to a real editing program) and a new mic to hopefully boost the audio quality. Next I'll tackle the lighting, I promise!
