So I decided to try something different and play around live with the partial multitrack to King Crimson's Indoor Games. Isolated bits came from "phasing out" multiple versions of the same mix against each other. A lot of patience and experimentation goes into getting these things mostly isolated. Thankfully King Crimson has made it slightly easier having released their songs in a million different variations all from one digitized multitrack source. Sources: Official Stereo Mixes, 5.1 Mixes, and Mr Stormy's Mixes.
King Crimson - Epitaph - Isolated Guitar, Mellotron and Bass. This isolation was achieved by taking two different instrumental mixes both from the same digitized multitrack source, and time aligning them as such until the common sounds "phase out" and disappear. In some cases the time line positioning is so razor thin that it's smaller than the sample rate of the source digital audio, and therefore rendering the result is not an option! Once the "phase out" occurs, the result must then be re-recorded from the live playback of the audio editing software, as rendering "micro quantizes" the phased out parts out of alignment thus making the hidden instruments re-appear.
