Mao Zedong was a Marxist theorist, revolutionary, and, from 1949 to 1959, the first chairman of the People’s Republic of China. Mao was one of the most influential and controversial political figures of the 20th century, in China. The urban and agrarian reforms he enacted throughout his leadership via China’s first five-year plan (1953–57), the Great Leap Forward (1958–60), and the Cultural Revolution (1966–76)—often had disastrous consequences for China’s people and economy. Mao ultimately resorted to increasingly authoritarian tactics to maintain principal control over the trajectory of his country.

Murder of Rita Curran

In the summer of 1971, 24-year old Rita Curran had just moved out of her parents' home for the first time to live in a Burlington, Vermont apartment, on Brooks Avenue, with three other roommates, whom she did not know well. Curran was a second-grade school teacher. She had started graduate courses at the University of Vermont, while also working during the summer months as a maid at a local motel.

In the early morning hours of July 20, 1971, a roommate arrived in the apartment and found Curran's dead body. Burlington policemen arrived and determined that the victim had been beaten, sexually assaulted, and asphyxiated. They also found evidence that Curran had fiercely resisted her attacker, putting up a "vicious struggle."

Unit 731 pt. II Shirō Ishii

Surgeon General Shirō Ishii (June 25, 1892 – October 9, 1959) was a Japanese microbiologist, army medical officer, and war criminal who served as the director of Unit 731, a biological warfare unit of the Imperial Japanese Army.

Ishii led the creation and use of biological weapons at Unit 731 in Manchukuo during the Second Sino-Japanese War from 1937 to 1945, including the bubonic plague attacks at Chinese cities of Changde and Ningbo, and planned the Operation Cherry Blossoms at Night biological attack against the United States. Ishii and his coworkers also experimented with humans unethically, resulting in the deaths of over 10,000 people, most of them civilians or prisoners of war. Ishii was later granted immunity in the International Military Tribunal for the Far East by the United States government in exchange for information and research for the U.S. biological warfare program.

The Killing Of Gabby Petito

Gabrielle Petito (March 19, 1999 – c. late August 2021) was born and raised in Blue Point, New York. She had six younger siblings and half-siblings. In 2013, Petito and her step-brothers appeared in a music video to raise awareness about American gun violence in response to the Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting. In 2017, she graduated from Bayport-Blue Point High School in Bayport, New York, where she met Brian Laundrie. From September 2017 to January 2019, she lived in Carolina Beach, North Carolina, working as a hostess and in the kitchen of a restaurant in nearby Wilmington.

Petito began dating Laundrie in March 2019, and moved in with him and his parents in North Port, Florida. The couple worked at a Publix in North Port, where she was a pharmacy technician and he was in the grocery department. In late 2019 and early 2020, the couple embarked on a cross-country drive from New York to California.

No Gun Ri Massacre

The No Gun Ri Massacre was a mass killing of South Korean refugees by U.S. military air and ground fire near the village of Nogeun-ri in central South Korea between July 26 and 29, 1950, early in the Korean War. In 2005, a South Korean government inquest certified the names of 163 dead or missing and 55 wounded, and added that many other victims' names were not reported. The No Gun Ri Peace Foundation estimates 250–300 were killed, mostly women and children.

The Most Evil Cop

Schaefer was a teacher who was fired for inappropriate behavior. He became a Patrolman in Martin County, Florida after being turned down for the Priesthood. On July 21, 1972 while on patrol, Schaefer picked up two teenage girls who were hitchhiking. He took them to a secluded area in the woods and tied them to a tree. Schaefer got a call on his radio and he left them tied up, vowing to return. They escaped and went to the closest police station which happened to be Schaefer’s station. When Schaefer returned to where he left the girls he discovered them missing. Realizing they were gone, he called his chief and explained that he had done something stupid. He claimed that he wanted to scare the girls so they wouldn’t hitchhike. The chief didn’t believe his story. He was arrested and charged with false imprisonment and assault...

The Wednesday Strangler

The Wednesday Strangler is an unidentified Japanese serial killer, responsible for the murders of seven women in Saga Prefecture from 1975 and 1989. The nickname comes from the fact that six of the victims disappeared on a Wednesday. The killings are also referred to as the Saga Women Murders.
