NEW MEXICO (KRQE) – A high-profile New Mexico entrepreneur and Native American activist has been convicted of raping a woman and recording videos of himself doing it. Redwolf Pope has appeared in national TV interviews and TED talks over the years.
This week, he made his appearance in court on trial for raping a woman in a Santa Fe hotel from in 2017. The allegations came to light after Pope’s roommates found videos of Pope appearing to have sex with a number of unconscious women. Friday, a jury found Pope guilty of rape and voyeurism which could mean up to four years in prison. They found him not guilty of the most serious charge of kidnapping which could have carried up to 18 years.
Tense moments unfolded at a rally in support of President Donald Trump in Aliso Viejo Wednesday when opposing sides squared off in what appeared to be an armed confrontation that was captured on video.
Deputies were called to Aliso Creek Road and Pacific Park Drive around 6:30 p.m. Wednesday. Five separate 911 calls were placed, the Orange County Sheriff’s Department said.
The situation ended with a retired police officer pulling a gun on a counter-protester who had allegedly pulled a knife, sheriff’s Sgt. Dennis Breckner said.
The counter-protester, identified by Breckner as 33-year-old Alvin Shaw, is accused of assaulting three women aged 55, 74 and 84.
Pro-Trump demonstrators were winding down after a two-hour event when Shaw “came out of nowhere, and we thought he was going to join our group,” witness Cynthia Cantrelle-Westman told KTLA.
“Instead he was pretty upset and he started using profanity from the minute he arrived,” she said. “He kept coming over to me and getting in my face, and all I could say was the F-word.”
Witnesses said he blew smoke in their faces, then punched several women.
Donna Snow, 84, says Shaw struck her in the face after he tried to put his cigar out on her Trump sign, and she asked him not to.
“He broke my earring off and just took up my whole face with his hand,” Snow said.
At some point, the Sheriff’s Department said Shaw also pulled a small pocket knife, which is when the retired police officer drew his gun on arrival, according to Breckner.
Breckner said the retired officer — who’s from an angency outside Orange County — wound up detaining Shaw.
A knife was later recovered from the bushes, where witnesses reported seeing it thrown, the sergeant said.
Shaw was booked on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon, elderly abuse and assault, and battery, Breckner said.
Inmate records show he was released Thursday after posting bail.

(CNN)Attorney General William Barr, in a wide-ranging interview on CNN Wednesday, condemned states using mail-in voting during the coronavirus pandemic, and didn't object to President Donald Trump seemingly implying that voters should cast two ballots this November.
"This is playing with fire. We're a very closely divided country here," Barr said on CNN's "The Situation Room with Wolf Blitzer" of changes this year where states are allowing more voting by mail because of the pandemic.
"People trying to change the rules to this, to this methodology -- which, as a matter of logic, is very open to fraud and coercion -- is reckless and dangerous and people are playing with fire," Barr added.

ST PAUL, Minn. — About two months after the unrest following George Floyd's death, St. Paul Police are finding those responsible for setting fires and looting businesses.
"Anything you see here you can probably multiply it by 10," said Commander Axel Henry as he pointed out all the pictures posted on the wall in a room where investigations are underway.
The videos and photos were captured from all the happenings during the first 48 hours.
"So we’re talking roughly 11 a.m. on May 28th to about 11 a.m. on Saturday May 30th," said Commander Henry.
Hundreds of businesses were damaged from Grand Avenue to the Midway Shopping Center.
"Somewhere in the area of about 300, including arson, looting, burglaries, robbery," said Commander Henry.
Those businesses were hit multiple times and in some cases police say by the same people.
"We’re seeing the people over and over again at different places and we can kind of almost plot their movement as they’re going around," said Henry. ...

President Trump's Remarks at Mt. Rushmore "Salute America" Event
President Trump delivered 4th of July remarks at Mt. Rushmore in South Dakota and announced an executive order to create a new national park featuring statues of great Americans.
Attorney General William Barr said Thursday that he doesn't believe President Trump has overstepped the boundaries between the White House and the Justice Department in a number of big recent cases.
Barr told NPR in a wide-ranging interview that he believes Trump has "supervisory authority" to oversee the effective course of justice — but Barr said that ultimately, the choices were made and carried through independently by the Justice Department.
"It's very important that the attorney general make sure that there's no political influence at stake involved in that — and there wasn't," Barr said.
NPR's Steve Inskeep asked Barr about the case of former national security adviser Michael Flynn, in which the Justice Department dropped charges even after Flynn's guilty plea; about the firing of U.S. Attorney Geoffrey Berman in New York City; and about others.
