Welcome to my first Music Video as part of the Video Compendium series to my upcoming book, The 500 Most Important Rock Songs in Music History. My 1st instalment is song #171, Pink Floyd's Money, from the album, Dark Side of the Moon. Roger Waters wrote this song from the perspective of being at a personal crossroad. He had grown up recognizing and disdaining Social and Economic imbalance as a means for the "rich" to separate themselves from the masses; however, by the time of Dark Side of the Moon, Roger now found himself economically advantaged, and suddenly desiring to have "things" that stroked one's sense of self (Roger was lusting after a Bentley). Thus, both the song and the album overall were not merely an attack against the Powers-that-be, and their system of the Status Quo, but also a direct look at the individual, and how easy it was to be drawn into the world of Mass Consumerism and distraction through Commercial Advertising and Societal teachings. This video, and indeed this entire video series on the 500 Most Important Rock Songs, is designed to take you to the heart of the deep, often encoded messages that these artists brilliantly crafted. Obviously it is difficult to explain all aspects of these messages within a six-minute Music Video, and to this end, I have written my book series on the 150 Most Important Rock Albums in Music History (of which Dark Side of the Moon sits at #5 overall), and my upcoming book on the 500 Most Important Rock Songs in Music History. This is the FIRST of 500 Music Videos that we will be posting to Bit chute as a Video compendium to my book (being released next year) on the 500 Most Important Rock Songs in Music History. Pink Floyd's Money is song #171 on this list of 500, and the video focuses upon the HEART of Roger Water's message, which is that Money is a massive factor in our lives, and our belief systems surrounding it largely determine our own personal experiences with it. Also, those that possess most of the money supply, program the masses to become dutiful, compliant CONSUMERS, and in this way, collect virtually all of the money that is in circulation, keeping the working class focused upon worthless trinkets and other distractions, so that they never wise up to their controlled reality. It's a very powerful and yet fun video that takes you on an enjoyable ride! CF
