Clara Schumann was inspired to give her husband, Robert Schumann, a present that would stay with him forever for his 31st birthday, his first birthday during their marriage. She writes music to a poem that had always shown how she felt for him. On June 8th, 1841, she presents her song to to him, Liebst du um Schönheit, with words by Friedrich Rückert.
