August 2019.

On the evening of Good Friday, the people of Pachino gather in the piazza for a night time procession through the town.

Still partially crippled, had to march back to get fuel, and then again for a new battery. Made it back in time for the fireworks. O Canada, God save the Queen and the Maple Leaf Forever.

On my first visit to Sicily, September 2018. I happened to be so crippled that I could barely walk for 30 mins. I took this as an opportunity to carry the Red Ensign up Mount Etna, bring it to the Canadian war cemetery in Agira, and fly it in my family's home town of Pachino, the site of Operation Husky. This was an act of love on behalf of all Sicilians, towards my Canadian friends, who I admire and respect as if they were my own blood. But it was especially a sign of respect to the Canadians and Italians who fought and died for their countries during the second world war. Let this be a sign of peace and friendship. Let my life's work be a testament to Canadians that I loved Canada as much as those who came before me. Though the debt can never be paid to those who died, let our acts of remembrance be a sign that we have not forgotten, that we are doing our best to make peace in the name of God. Let us be joyful so that their suffering was not in vain.
