Geghard is a medieval monastery in the Kotayk province of Armenia, being partially carved out of the adjacent mountain, surrounded by cliffs. Despite the heat outside, the jamatun had the cool air within it, that could keep you satisfied from the heat.

One of the last pagan remnants of ancient Armenia that has endured the plagues of modern times. A Graeco-Roman structure that calls to me in a manner of those ancient energies that thrive in these decline of days.

For the record, people do ruin experiences such as these with their need for sensationalism over social media and to trample over monuments of historical significance. Lastly, the decline of civilisation can be seen right before you and it isn't the ancient settlements of old, but of the overall quality of behaviour in people.

Trivia: Folk etymology includes a legend telling of an event that is tied to the construction of the main church, where the builder falls down the abyss while completing the final structure of the dome, and during fall he calls "Ta Tev" meaning - give me wings. Folk legend says that he came down unharmed. where an apprentice secretly climbs to the top of its steeple intending to place a cross of his own design. However, the apprentice is spotted by his master during his descent. Shocked by his discovery, the apprentice loses his foothold and falls into the abyss as he calls upon God to grant him wings, which, in Armenian is: "Ta Tev".

Noravank was founded in 1105 by Bishop Hovhannes, a former abbot of Vahanavank near the present-day city of Kapan in Syunik. The monastic complex includes the church of S. Karapet, S. Grigor chapel with a vaulted hall, and the church of S. Astvatsatsin (Holy Mother of God). Ruins of various civil buildings and khachkars are found both inside and outside of the compound walls. Noravank was the residence of the Orbelian princes. The architect Siranes and the miniature painter and sculptor Momik worked here in the latter part of the thirteenth and early fourteenth century.

Paying my respects to the lives lost during the Armenian genocide of 1915 by the Ottoman empire.

I left any and all music out of the experience, as it were quiet as a tomb. The energy felt here had been especially sombre. The sounds of silence and the dark presence of the fallen, remain still.
