A book by Alfred Rosenberg published in 1930. A presentation and abridged edition by The Sunwheel Society, 2016.
"This movie is based on an abridgment of Der Mythus des zwanzigsten Jahrhunderts and is released for historical and educational purposes. One of the most important and neglected works of political philosophy from the first half of the twentieth century, The Myth has been made accessible to the scholar and lay person alike as never before. Released under Creative Commons License by The Sunwheel Society in 2016, this work will boldly challenge your understanding of religion, life, politics, and philosophy, requiring you to critically assess its ideas as well as your own.

Created directly from a historical document, The Myth is released with the intention of free philosophical inquiry and an accurate understanding of a deeply influential philosophy that has long been misunderstood, even by those who admire the political system it created. Welcome to a new, deeper understanding of history. Welcome to The Myth!"

It might be said that the birth of secular humanism, 'scientism' or 'rationalism', and the materialist and reductionist philosophies that have come to so dominate modernity, first stepped into the foreground of the western world most profoundly as a result of the French Revolution - and the several similar revolutions it helped spark and inspire.

The ancient and traditional conception of hierarchy, in which God represents the 'capstone', with Kings and Chieftains and Holy Men and ruling Nobility to act as his stewards and right hand to establish right order in the material world, seemed to be the foremost target of the leading players responsible for the events of these years.

The King, Queen, and Nobility of pre-revolution France, and their specific means and methods of governance, were far from perfect - and in many ways had become subpar examples of the lofty tradition they were meant to represent and uphold. However, the nature of how they were deposed, the primary movers behind this deposition, and the nature of the structures and institutions that were to take their place, seemed an ominous foreshadowing of the unmoored chaos of modernity.

Kill off the prevailing conception of God, kill off the earthly Father and Mother of a nation, and you're left with lawyers, sophists, and money men.. and the entire world eventually pays the price for this disastrous trade.

Part two, of two.

The French Revolution (1789 - 1799) led to the destruction of both the Monarchy and the Aristocracy and high Nobility of France, and set new governing precedent in the process.
Posing as an organic movement of the people, it would serve to help change the trajectory of the western world, and profoundly alter the way western mankind would view nations, governments, and leadership.

Victors really do write the history books - and few instances better illustrate this concept than historical accounts of the French Revolution. Anti-hierarchical sentiments, democracy, humanism, reductionist materialism, rationalism, the modern conception of 'human rights', the term 'Republican' and concepts of 'left-wing' and 'right-wing', the guillotine - all spring from revolutionary France.

It's said that Alexander slept with Homer's 'Iliad' under his pillow. He considered the great heroes in these masterful epics to be peers, brothers, kin.. and believed himself to be of their lineage.

He seemed to view their courage, competence, their feats of greatness, as a friendly challenge - and took up this challenge, with every ounce of his being.

The great men of past eras who strove for glory and honor are often misunderstood, in our age, as being predominantly fueled by selfish motives. A broader picture view might suggest the polar opposite - such men rarely 'enjoyed' the decadent and hedonistic luxury and ease of life experienced by their opposite type, but instead chose lives of sporting hardship, struggle, and the active overcoming of obstacles.. in exchange for leaving a lasting imprint on the fabric of reality, serving to energize and inspire and provide a living example to all who might come after.

Without the living memory of heroes and great men as examples in all spheres - from the martial to the spiritual to the philosophical, and all in between - we risk normalizing and falling into mediocrity, laziness, and cowardice.. becoming a tired, dreary, unexceptional people, living for superficial pleasures, and thus doomed to be ruled by shopkeeps and merchants, and the self-serving administrators and politicians they inevitably come to so control. We risk manifesting a horizon free from lofty mountains, their peaks in rarefied air reaching up to the heavens, and instead experiencing a landscape of nothing but undifferentiated flatness. Dull, uninteresting, devoid of motivating or inspirational power.. and in a very real sense, dead.

Alexander was a mountain peak.. an example that nothing is impossible, to him who can simply come to know that nothing is impossible.

Addendum - Alexander's speech, at the 'mutiny' at Opis:

(I considered recreating this speech myself - but it's admirably done, here, and with so much else I was eager to cover, I didn't want to 'reinvent the wheel')

Here, director Clifford B. West looks at the art of casting Renaissance bronzes as a historian, appreciator, critic, and craftsman. This film traces bronze from its discovery in Mesopotamia in the third millenium BCE to the 20th century. The film begins with historian Bruno Bearzi showing Donatello's modifications, and his 14 separate castings, on the colossal bronze of St. Louis of Toulouse at the Museo dell'Opera.
Then, a visit to the Hades-like Fonderia Ferdinando Marinelli, where four workers prepare casts for the lost-wax process, then laboriously hoist the heavy, molten bronze crucible, and carefully pour off its terrible contents, to a soundtrack of ambient noise made by sculptor Harry Bertoia. Finally, the director turns to the past, through the doors of Ghiberti in the Baptistry of Florence.

00:00 Architecture and Town Planning
Ostia, the ancient port of Rome, is used as an example of Roman town planning and architecture. Explains the ground plan of the city, examining the various categories of buildings and spaces in detail, especially regarding their construction and function. Views the shops, warehouses, apartments, temples, baths, etc. as components of the economic and social unit of the town.

25:36 Herod and Judaea
Surveys the architectural achievements of Herod the Great, a "client-king" of the Roman Empire in Judaea and one of the master builders of the ancient world. Documents the remains of his buildings in Caesarea and Samaria, and details findings from the Tomb of the Patriarchs in Hebron, the Citadel (David's Tower), Masada, Herodion, and the Winter Palace at Jericho.

50:29 Town and Country
Studies the Roman Empire's urbanization pattern, developed by Augustus, which depended both on the colonization of towns to secure peace in the surrounding countryside and on the development of roads to link the farmlands and towns with Rome. Uses archaeological evidence to reconstruct the interdependent life of the towns and the prosperous country, focusing on the town of Cosa and the local villa Sette Finestre, and on the town of Lucas Feroniae and the nearby villa of the Volusii.

Take a step back in time, 10,000 years ago, when the solar system was vastly different than it is now. All across the globe, ancient tales offer similar accounts of a sky we would not recognize on planet we would not know as home. By examining the mythology from many of these ancient cultures, paired with an understanding of forbidden electromagnetic theories, Wallace Thornhill and Ev Cochrane construct a forgotten history of our planet and civilization. Along the way, we uncover the secrets of an electric universe, where vast magnetic fields and immense strands of lighting construct stars and planets on a cosmic scale. Could all of this be deeply embedded in our biology and genetic codes, explaining some of the greatest fears that we all share?
