Garland dancing is a traditional English folk dance, akin to Morris Dancing. Ritual dance, known in old English as lác (an offering of sport or play), was an important part of heathen worship. Here our womenfolk are dancing at dawn, before a wéoh (holy image) of the goddess Éastre to greet the dawn and welcome the summer.

The Ealdríce’s ladies learned this dance by watching a performance by the Wild Rose Garland Dancers (https://youtu.be/z0TkLWyDFvM)

Þórbeorht Ealdorblótere midway through the “Ealdléoþ” at Whitthenge Heall of the Ealdríce Théodish Fellowship (https://ealdrice.org/):

In ealhum háligum, at æcerum wíhedum
In temples holy, at acres hallowed
on heargum blódigum, befóran héafod-ródum
on hargs bloody, before head-roods
tó Ésum and Ælfum eorlas géafon gyld.
to Gods and Elves men gave yield.
Swá dydon híe þan, dóþ wé swá same.
As did they then, do we so the same.

“We command that the peace of our lord the king be well kept and maintained by night and by day. Also that all manner of whores, thieves, dice-players, and all other unthrifty folk be welcome to the town, whether they come late or early, at the reverence of the high feast of Yoole, till the twelve days be passed.”
