Did you know…

Many fathers across Canada are separated from their children by divorce and spending time with their children less than two times a year.

30% of divorced fathers do not see their children two to three times per month, and 20% never see their families again.

Statistics show that when fathers are not present and do not have a direct influence, children are eight times more likely to go to prison, five times more likely to commit suicide, 20 times more likely to have behavioural problems, and 10 times more likely to not do well in school.

Neil Campbell of the Family Dream Institute joins our guest host, Doug Sharpe, on this program to discuss the issue.

Neil has dedicated much of his life to working with families and fathers to strengthen families. He has developed a support network called the Mighty Men Network.

Thanks for watching. If you appreciate the content, please like, share and subscribe!

Is the carbon tax making a significant difference for the environment, or is it simply hurting Canadians?

Are there other ways to protect the environment that are more effective and less harmful to Canadians?

MAiD for the mentally ill is being delayed (for three years). What do we think? Is this good? Is delay enough, or should it be eliminated?

Join us this week for a special panel chat about these issues with my guest hosts, Doug Sharpe and Toyin Crandell.

Thanks for joining us.

Join us this week for a re-air of a special feature of the documentary: Why Are Housing Prices In Canada So High?
The average house price in Canada is now $685,809.
It is almost double that if you live in Toronto or Vancouver.
The average rent is now more than $2,000/month, up significantly in the last two years. Translation: Rental prices and home prices are at an all-time high. Demand is high, and construction rates have not kept up.
Add to this inflation leading to higher food prices, new carbon taxes leading to higher gas prices and increased interest rates leading to higher mortgage payments. More and more Canadians are struggling to find a home or stay in their current home.
This show features clips from Aaron Gunn’s documentary, Why Are Housing Prices In Canada So High? In it, he unpacks how we got here and possible solutions.
Thanks for joining us.

The Federal Minister of Justice has tabled Bill C-63, legislation to enact the Online Harms Act.

The first reading was on February 24th, 2024.

The act would create a tribunal whereby Canadians could report other Canadians who they feel may say something hateful that could cause harm to another person or group of people.

Similar legislation existed previously and was removed by the Harper government because of abuses.

If C-63 is passed, anonymous complaints could be filed with a tribunal, and those who are accused could be ordered to pay tens of thousands of dollars to the complainant and to the government of Canada….all for something they might say.

Lawyers Barry Bussey and Josh Dehaas are here to discuss the details of the act and the possible implications.

Barry Bussey is the founder of First Freedoms Foundation, and Josh Dehaas serves as legal counsel for the Canadian Constitution Foundation.

Both these nonprofit organizations serve Canadians through advocacy and litigation to protect our constitutional rights and freedoms, not the least of which is freedom of thought, belief, faith, and speech.

Thanks for joining us for this very important discussion.

Many of us feel the challenge of this present moment in our country.

With high inflation and some government policies and practices that many may not agree with, people need hope and encouragement.

Well, this show brings us just that!

Joining our guest host (Toyin Crandell) this week is Tyrelle Smith and Wade & Jenny Sanderson. They join us to share some very inspiring testimonies of great things happening in Canada!

Tyrelle Smith is with Gospel Fire for All Nations, an organization that has been hosting cross-denominational gatherings of people from across the prairies who are hungry for God's presence. They mentor Canadians to share Christ with their friends and family members and are seeing tremendous impact.

Wade and Jenny Sanderson lead Inspire Fire Ministries. Wade recovered from drug and alcohol abuse. They both have encountered the love and presence of God in a way that radically transformed their lives. They now take that love, joy and the presence of God into communities across Canada with a special focus on First Nations communities.

Thanks for joining us!

According to madeincanada.ca, there are 3.5 million entrepreneurs in Canada. In recent years small and medium-sized businesses employed over 14 million Canadians. Almost 98% of Canadian businesses are considered small companies.

Their contribution is over half of Canada's GDP.

One in four new companies are started by recent immigrants to Canada.

Today's show features two guests, Jimi and Ade Alalade from Naija Atlantic Bakery.

They have an inspiring story of immigrating to Canada, taking a risk and launching a small business out of their garage, and growing it into a service footprint covering three provinces.

They are now giving back to their community in very meaningful ways.

I am excited about this conversation.

According to Health Canada and the Public Health Agency of Canada data:

// Between 2016 and 2023, Canada saw over 40,000 deaths attributed to opioids.

// Men aged 20 to 59 years were most affected, with many of those deaths involving stimulants.

// There were almost 17,000 stimulant-related poisoning hospitalizations reported in Canada from 2000 to 2023.

// Current estimates are 67,000 deaths per year in Canada directly linked to substance use, with tobacco and alcohol being the leading contributors.

The statistics underscore the importance of addressing substance use disorders and mental illness in tandem, focusing on prevention, treatment, and support systems to mitigate the impacts on individuals and society at large.

This is what we are exploring on this show with our special guest, George Glover.

George has been on the front lines for years, serving those struggling with addictions, their families, and community members who have a heart to help. He now serves as the executive director of Touched by Addiction, which aims to help people from across Canada break the chains of addiction.

Welcome back! Today is a very exciting one for Faytene TV.

They say that the only constant in life is change. This is also true for us!

Over the next months, you are going to be seeing some familiar faces more frequently as we shift into a new format called “Faytene and Friends”

We will continue coming to you weekly, speaking to the issues shaping our nation and times, and I am making room for some of our friends to help with hosting, interacting with and interviewing guests. This will enable us to continue expanding in other directions to further impact our communities for the better.

Joining me today are two people who are familiar to loyal viewers of the show.

Doug Sharpe hosts the National Leadership Briefing, a monthly national call focused on equipping Canadians who care about our nation on how to have a positive civic impact.

Toyin Crandell is a Finance and Leadership Coach who has run for office, led leadership delegations to the Parliament and is now a high-impact coach helping people (and organizations) shift from fiscal vulnerability to strength.

Doug and Toyin are both full-spectrum Canadians who care about the wise fiscal stewardship of our tax dollars and social engagement in order to leave our nation a better place for this and future generations.

So welcome Doug and Toyin to the expanded: Faytene and Friends!

Thanks for joining us.

Homelessness in Canada — whether in plain sight or hidden, has been on the rise.

The Homeless Hub estimates there are 153,000 – 300,000 homeless Canadians.

Recently, we aired a show featuring the work of the Red Shelter Project in Halifax, Nova Scotia. Halifax is just one example of many communities that have seen the homeless population explode in recent years.

Toronto currently has the largest homeless population in Canada, and 44% of Canada’s shelters are in Ontario.

In harsh winter climates, homelessness becomes dangerous, with lives lost to the cold temperatures or tent fires.

To tackle the issue, the Canadian Government is expected to invest two-point-two billion to help with the challenge. In addition to this, municipal and provincial governments nationwide have been pulling together to try and develop meaningful solutions.

The non-profit sector is one group bringing the most meaningful relief to the challenges surrounding homelessness. Overwhelmingly, those serving through churches or other non-profits are the ones in these trenches.

Joining me today are two individuals in that category. Joseph Sikora works with Ground Zero Ministries in Abbotsford, BC, and Craig Forbes is a pastor at Lakemount Worship Centre in Grimsby, Ontario. Both have been working tirelessly to serve and save lives on the front lines of homelessness.

Thanks for joining us.

The Internet and social media have dramatically changed how we do life.

Did you know….

// Over 60% of the human population actively uses social media. (Source: DataReportal)

// In Canada, 92% of us are internet users, with 72% of us active on Facebook. The average Canadian spends more than 2 hours a day on social media. TikTok is the fastest-growing social media platform in our nation. (Ref: Made In Canada)

How is this impacting us, our work, our relationships and our mental health? How can we ensure that technology is bringing a positive impact to our lives rather than a negative one?

Our guest, James Kelly, is the Founder and CEO of FaithTech. It is a Canadian-based international network of tech professionals who are committed to ensuring that technology is being used for good causes.

Their network is rapidly growing, already impacting 37 cities across the globe and 14 nations.

When it comes to Canada’s economy, according to Statistics Canada, there is good news and bad.

The cost of gasoline is down, and inflation has settled to around 4% at the end of 2023 (as opposed to 7% one year prior).

At the same time, the rising cost of living, higher taxes, and increased housing costs have many Canadians struggling to make ends meet.

The federal debt has doubled in the last few years and is now well over 1.2 trillion dollars.

Interest on the federal debt is one of the largest bills that Canadians pay each year, higher than what is budgeted for the Canadian Child Benefit Plan and National Defence.

Joining us today to shed light on the state of Canada’s economy (and other issues) are Franco Terrazzano and Jay Goldberg of the Canadian Taxpayers Federation.

The federation is a citizen’s advocacy group dedicated to lower taxes, less waste, and accountable governments.

Thanks for joining us.

According to Statistics Canada, almost half of Canadians (44%) were very concerned about their ability to afford housing or rent in the near future (2022).

Over 11% reported that they had personally experienced homelessness at some point in their lives already.

The Canadian Alliance for Homelessness reports that there are possibly over a quarter of a million homeless in Canada.

The need is absolutely massive.

Our guests today, Stephen Wilsack and Matt Grant, were inspired to become part of the solution after visiting a homeless encampment in Halifax. What started out as giving some bedding and supplies has now developed into an operation where they have raised money to erect a small village of ice fishing tents just outside City Hall. They have also been working to equip the tents with heat and power, two things that onlookers believe have already saved lives.

Stephen and Matt are with us to share what they’ve been up to and the impact that they’re having.

Thanks for joining us.

Did you know that every single year in Ottawa, elected officials from various federal parties gather together and pray? It’s called the National Prayer Breakfast (NPB). The purpose of the NPB is to unite leaders in our nation’s capital in order to pray together, build relationally, and walk together in the spirit of Jesus Christ.

The event is an extension of a weekly prayer gathering at Parliament, with MPs and senators from various parties participating regularly.

Canada was the first nation in the world to establish a National Prayer Breakfast, with Prime Minister Lester B. Pearson addressing it in its inaugural year in 1964.

This year’s National Prayer Breakfast theme was “A Firm Foundation,” and the lead organizers were MP Richard Bragdon (NB) and MP Damien Kurek (AB).

The event sold out a full month in advance, with 770 Canadians participating (possibly making it the highest-attended NPB in our history).

I had the joy of being there in person with some of our friends and ministry partners.

I’m very excited to share recorded highlights of the event with you today.

All footage is shown with permission from the organizers of the event.

What does it mean to love our neighbours as ourself? It means seeing the needs of the people in front of us and responding with compassion and generosity. It means making the most of opportunities to be a blessing to others as we would want to be blessed ourselves.

Well, there is an amazing church in Edmonton, Alberta, coordinating with businesses and other nonprofits to be a blessing to those around them.

Early in 2023, Saints Church discovered an incredible opportunity to reclaim return items from realtors, and redistribute them to those in need in the community.

Senior Leader, Brett Esslinger is here to share the inspiring story of CityServe YEG stepping up to be an answer that their communities and neighbours need.

I know this testimony will encourage you, and perhaps even inspire you to multiply this brilliant idea in your community as well.

Thanks for joining us.

The House of Commons has been running full steam since mid-September, and activity has been at fever pitch. Here’s a brief snapshot of some of the highlights:

// Liberals hosted Ukrainian President Zelensky in Ottawa.

// 37th Speaker of the House, Anthony Rota stepped down after he mistakenly invited a veteran who fought with the Nazis against Russia (and the House of Commons gave him a standing ovation).

// Rota was replaced in a matter of days by Greg Fergus, Canada’s first black Speaker of the House of Commons

// Thousands of concerned Canadians descended on Parliament for the Million Person March, expressing concerns about parental rights and the sexualization of children in some schools.

// The Conservatives had their policy convention with grassroots members from across Canada attending. Policies were passed supporting indigenous veterans, removing GST on essential maternity products, and protecting female-only spaces such as bathrooms and change room — to name just a few.

Add to this the flurry of bills now flooding into the debate votes and committee phases:

// MPs Dean Allison’s bill to limit federal vaccine mandates (just defeated).
// MP Ed Fast’s bill to stop the expansion of assisted suicide to the mentally ill (just defeated)
// MP Rosemarie Falk’s bill to support adoptive families.

Here today to discuss the issues at hand is MP Arnold Viersen. He is well known for his very effective work across party lines, fighting human-trafficking, and serving as the chair of the Parliamentary Pro-Life Caucus.

This is part 2 of our interview with Dr. Margaret Cottle and Alex Schadenburg on the topic of the expansion of Medical Assistance in Dying (MAiD) in Canada.

In our discussion, Cottle and Schadenberg share insights on the real reason why some Canadians choose to die by assisted death, and what we can do to show compassion to those around us in their time of need.

This interview also features “Sam’s Story”, courtesy of No Options No Choice.

Dr. Margaret Cottle is the assistant professor in the Division of Palliative Care from the University of British Columbia, and Alex Schadenburg is the executive director of the Euthanasia Prevention Coalition.

Did you know that more than 70% of Canadians do not have an estate plan?

Did you know only 34% of Canadians aged 35-54 years have a will?

Why does this matter? It matters because not planning carefully can mean that when you die, the people you love get much less than you might have hoped for.

Today, our special guest Lorne Jackson from Advisors with Purpose, joins us to discuss this topic and how you can plan with wisdom. His organization specializes in helping Canadians avoid costly pitfalls in their will and estate planning — and their service is free for our friends and viewers, with no sales pitches and no strings attached!

In addition to the interview with Lorne, on this show, we share encouraging updates on what is happening here at V-Kol behind the scenes with first-hand testimony from an in-studio guest. We want our partners to know how much of a difference you are making through your support of this work.

Eight years ago, assisted suicide was legalized in Canada by the Liberal government. At that time it was only the terminally ill, and those whose death was in the foreseeable future, who were eligible.

In 2021, eligibility was expanded to those who are not terminal.

In 2024, it is set to expand to include those with mental illness.

According to Statistics Canada, the rates of assisted suicide have increased every year since its legalization and over 30,000 Canadians have now died by it. MAiD accounted for 3.3% of deaths in Canada in 2021.

Reports have surfaced of a 23-year-old man with diabetes who was approved for it, a homeless man who preferred to die rather than live on the streets, and it was offered to a veteran struggling with PTSD.

MP Ed Fast has tabled bill C-314. If passed it will stop the expansion of MAiD for the mentally ill.

Here today to discuss the topic is Dr. Margaret Cottle, assistant professor in the Division of Palliative Care from the University of British Columbia, and Alex Schadenburg of the Euthanasia Prevention Coalition.

They had so much to share in our conversation that we are airing the interview in two separate parts. Today is part one of our conversation.

Thanks for joining us.

Did you know that Israel’s strongest ally isn’t a nation? It’s a people group. The faith community.

This is why 20 years ago, in 2004, the Knesset Christian Allies Caucus was formed, along with the Israel Allies Foundation. Their purpose is to encourage faith-based support for Israel among elected members of legislatures and parliaments worldwide.

The Canadian caucus went dormant in 2015 but has recently been revived under the leadership of Dr. Leslyn Lewis, and several dozen Canadian Members of Parliament have also joined the caucus.

Josh Reinstein is with me for this program to share about the international work of the Israel Allies Foundation, the reviving of Canada’s caucus, and critical issues facing Israel today.

Born in Toronto, Canada, Josh is regarded as one of the world’s most influential Jewish leaders. He has given his life to fostering positive relationships between Israel’s Knesset and elected officials worldwide.

Josh Reinstein is the director of the Knesset Christian Allies Caucus and President of the Israel Allies Foundation.

Canada is currently facing a housing crisis.

As of January 2023, the average price for a Canadian house was more than $600,000, and almost double that if you live in Toronto or Vancouver. The average rent is now more than $2,000/month, up significantly in the last two years.

Rental prices and home prices are at an all-time high. Demand is high. Supply is low. At the current construction rates, there is no sign of the problem correcting anytime soon.

Add to this: inflation leading to higher food prices, new carbon taxes leading to higher gas prices and increased interest rates leading to higher mortgage payments. More and more Canadians are struggling to find a home or stay in their current home.

On this show we are featuring clips from Aaron Gunn’s documentary, “Why Are Housing Prices In Canada So High?” In it he unpacks how we got here, and possible solutions.

In recent years, independent media and journalists have soared in popularity. Aaron Gunn has emerged as one of Canada’s most influential in this context.

Gunn’s online series, Politics Explained, has been serving Canadians by producing documentaries. The series covers vital issues such as rising crime rates in Canada, the decriminalization of drugs, freedom of speech in Canadian universities, Canada's inflation crisis, Western alienation, and the challenges in Canada's healthcare system.

His films have been viewed over 6 million times on YouTube alone.

This show features clips from Gunn’s “Fractured Nation, The Pillage of Western Canada” by permission.

If you live in Western Canada, it will be no surprise to you that as many as 1/3rd of Albertans believe the province would be better off if it separated from the rest of Canada. If you live in Eastern Canada, this may come as a surprise, but the disillusionment in Western Canada is real. It stems from a painful history with Ottawa — a history that most Canadians outside the prairies are unaware of.
