Lemmy is a link aggregator for the fediverse. It provides similar functionality to Reddit but you can host your own instances and federate with other Lemmy instances. It uses the ActivityPub protocol but is not yet federating outside of Lemmy instances. In this video I give some background and take you on a tour of the user interface and features.

XMPP is an open protocol that supports Instant Chat, Messaging, Presence, Audio Calls, Blogging, Video Calls, Chat Rooms, IoT, and much more across 1,000's of XMPP servers and numerous client apps. It supports end-to-end OpenPGP or OMEMO encryption for secure chats. It works much like the Fediverse and I explain here how it relates to the Fediverse, what Movim offers for social networking and blogging, and show what some clients look like.

Anyone can also host their own XMPP server if they wish. There is no lock-in to any provider (server side or client side), no adverts, no data being shared. It can be as private or as public as you wish.

This open source software allows you to fairly easily model your home (or other buildings) to help you visualise interior home design changes and to export to both photorealistic stills and videos. I've used it twice for alterations to our house and I show how I've used it.

If you profit from selling services around this software please consider donating to the project, it's the right thing to do.

Web analytics can be useful for content creators to better focus their outputs but where they are abused, shared or sold to 3rd parties then that can be a bad thing. This video demonstrates some of the data that can leak from just visiting websites, whilst services that track your presence, mobile location, whom you are communicating with, etc can be worse as they have more personal data.

The open source tools here collect metadata first-hand and do not share with anyone else. If you need to collect analytics for yourself these can be used instead of Google Analytics, StatCounter, etc.

This video is for Linux KDE Desktop users who want to have a webpage updating as a live wallpaper in the background. I used a plugin called HTML Wallpaper to display a live view of JS8Call ham radio operations but you could use it for any webpage showing news, sports results, or whatever else, and choose whether to interact with the webpage or not.

If you are interested in seeing what Diaspora can do as an alternative to Facebook or other social networks, or if you are curious about followers from Diaspora who comment on your posts, this video is for you. I run through how it fits into the Fediverse, how you can control what you see, how to block people, the settings, how it interacts with other networks, and how to post. It does not have photo albums and events like Facebook has though.

This was in a Ferrari 488 GT3. Running Assetto Corsa Competizione on Linux with Proton. Full video at https://bit.ly/danieacc

The brand is really not important as it fits more into the no-name brand category of smallish size ultrasonic cleaners. This one is 750ml volume and only 5cm deep so meant for smallish items. They all use around 40-42kHz sonic waves through water to do the cleaning.

So far I've only cleaned a dirty fountain pen and a 60 year old safety razor. It did a good job on both and the fountain pen has no traces of ink left, and the razor has its adjustment rings turning very easily now.

The razor was previously cleaned by hand and polished with a Dremel but if you look carefully at the video you'll still see some clouds of gunk coming off it. I slowed the video down to 60% so hopefully it is easier to spot.

Elgg is an award-winning open source social networking engine that provides a robust framework on which to build all kinds of social environments, from a campus wide social network for your university, school or college or an internal collaborative platform for your organization through to a brand-building communications tool for your company and its clients.

It is easily installed for free as self-hosted solution and in the video I give an overview of what it does and how easy it is to configure. The video will help you decide if something like Elgg could be suitable for your organization.
