There is something so visually appealing and enticing about abandoned places.
Maybe it's the unknown history and the mystery of why they were just left to decay.
This Summer my love of abandoned places turned into an obsession and along with a fellow photographer and friend we set about combing the back roads of Nova Scotia in search of hidden treasures. Here are just a few of the places we found on our travels.
I know people keep asking about these places, but they were trawled over the best part of a year, it was a serious and long haul project. The best way to find abandoned places is to plan a route and take each back road in a grid like formation. There in lies my problem, I did so many many back roads it's impossible to remember where each place is specifically. To anyone watching and reading, if urban/rural exploring is something you are interested in, then just go looking. Dedication and perseverance will pay off! Just be careful. A Graphic Designer by profession, my photography is an extension of those skills and something I have a huge passion for.
I started taking photographs on a more serious level (rather than just holiday snaps) back in 2005 when I bought a S5500 Fuji Finepix (Which I still own). I was published several times that year in a national magazine, and went on to claim 3rd place in their photographer of the year competition (altered images category). Spurred on by initial success I upgraded my camera to a modest DSLR, in 2006 I held a successful exhibition and 2008 I attained the first merit level within the Photographic Alliance of Great Britain.
My images are many and varied, I try not to restrict my subject matter as I love a challenge, and use all manner of processing techniques.
Traveling is my other passion in life. I want to see as much of the world whilst I am still on it. I am lucky enough to have already traveled to so many wonderful places. In 2010 I made a dream a reality and emigrated from the UK to Nova Scotia Canada.
