I’ve reviewed some pretty bad “evidence” for Joseph Smith’s alleged polygamy. But this is the worst yet.

In the late 1800s, the LDS Church tried to prove in court that Joseph Smith was a polygamist. It didn’t go very well. Here I present the highlights of the first day of the testimony of Joseph Noble, the only source for Joseph Smith’s alleged marriage to Louisa Beeman. It’s so bad that it’s funny—at least I found it so. I hope you agree. Stay tuned for part 2!

Polygamist Mormon apostle Orson Whitney published Elias: An Epic of the Ages in 1904. This vintage radio program (?) has a reading of one of my favorite sections. Often the early polygamists get a bad rap—rightly so, for many things. But when I hear Canto Three of his poem, I can’t help but think that Whitney sincerely believed in Jesus. You can read and download the entire poem below.

You would think that reporting a bunch of second-hand gossip as if it was fact would be against the historian’s craft. But when it comes to Joseph Smith’s polygamy, it’s their modus operandi. By popular demand, in this episode I look at the sources for the story of Joseph’s relationship with Fanny Alger. Special thanks to Brian Hales, whose great work assembling so many sources makes it much easier to do what he does not: look at them critically.

Was Thomas Bullock a scribe to Joseph Smith? Did he have plural wives while Joseph was alive? The LDS historians say yes, but the primary sources say otherwise.

“Trust the professional historians.” After all, they’re the experts…right? In these Historical Malpractice videos, I’ll lay out basic factual errors committed by LDS Church historians and apologists—errors that will make you wonder why you ever trusted “the experts.”

In February 1840, Joseph Smith gave a 2-hour talk in Washington D.C. It's only by the whims of serendipity that some of his words were preserved. Then, as now, lots of rumors about the Mormons were going around; Joseph wanted to set the record straight about what he really believed.

The LDS Doctrine and Covenants says that Section 109, the dedication prayer for the House of The Lord in Kirtland, was given to Joseph Smith via revelation. But is that reflected in the historical sources? Does it have anything to do with Brigham Young’s misbegotten and enormously expensive temple projects? Let’s find out.

For your convenience, here’s the transcript of Richard’s notes—at least, everything I could understand:

May 14 1843. Attend meeting at the temple AM. Hyrum Smith addressed the people – subjects from the Book Mormon 2d Chap Jacob – remember that the Book Mormon was a mirror, a key, to the Bible – spoke of persecution as being one of the ways of salvation – when persecution ceased, apt to forget the first commandment [which, in case you’ve forgotten, is to have no other gods, idols, or objects of worship] – said there were many that had a great deal to say about the ancient order of things as Solomon and David having many wives and concubines – but its an abomination in the sight of God – if an angel from heaven should come & preach such doctrine would be sure to see his cloven foot & cloud of blackness over his head, - though his garments might shine as white as snow – a ^man might have one wife – concubines he should have none – observed, that the idea was that this was given to Jacob for a perpetual principle – said,-“I would say that in consequence of the pres plenty of some they look down with contempt on their neighbors – partiality to some class-making their dress to correspond sc, aught to be looked upon with indignantly by all the noble minded in the Church of God – speaking of curls – he said they were to feed the hungry instead of spending their money to buy curls – What Joseph had said upon the subject he had said to [prow? Prune?] them – will not those upon whose heads the hair grew to make the curls claim it in the resurrection – whose will be the curls in the resurrection – I am a plain man – to God I am responsible – I deal in plainness [&?] if the [Lord says?] what he shall do – if he has two coats let him give one to him that has none – speaking of riding dresses – [a cop?] imitating sailors with a feather & tail hanging down to the horses feet can be bought – can you give one picayune to the foot? I am opposed to females forming military circles in every shape!! Women should be chaste keepers at home – remarked, that there must be a spirit of oneness, & the spirit of equity, in the church of Jesus Christ – another things I am opposed to females walking after dark – those I [?] after this shall give an excuse – spoke of the danger from marauders abroad - & also talking & talebearing I believe them that one chaste will be keepers at home at home spoke of

President Hyrum Smith speaks at the 11th General Conference of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints on April 8, 1844. This talk was censored from the official history of the LDS Church under Brigham Young, and has recently been deleted from the Joseph Smith Papers under suspicious circumstances (see below).

The words in this recording are almost verbatim from the notes of President Hyrum Smith’s talk taken by Thomas Bullock. I lightly expanded the notes to make the spoken words flow more easily—much of the notes are not in complete sentences. Please note that in the fragmentary account we have, most of Hyrum’s 90-minute talk has been lost. The version of Bullock’s notes we have (see below) is probably copied from earlier notes that no longer exist. The modern painting of Hyrum is by Del Parson. Great job, Del!

Thank you for watching this video about the dubious origins of D&C 132, the Mormon scripture allegedly dictated by Joseph Smith that gave Brigham Young free rein for polygamy. Please like, comment, and share.

I start to tackle LDS Doctrine and Covenants 132, but spend the whole video on problems raised in the very first verse. If you want more info about some of the things I touch on here, check out Michelle Stone’s 132 Problems: https://www.youtube.com/@132problemsrevisitingmormo8. My earlier video about David and Solomon’s polygamy vs. Jacob 2 is here: https://www.bitchute.com/video/5QpTqBKcfTBd/. The pro-polygamy document referenced at the end is The Peacemaker, by Udney Jacobs. Thanks for watching!

Revised records? Teenage pregnancies? Shotgun weddings? All this and more in George Laub’s journals, which LDS Church historians describe as “a boots-on-the-ground view” of early Mormon history despite being written years later and then revised later still.
