Rick Ross - Who Really Won (2017 Diverse Mentality MiniDocumentary) In early April, Rick Ross, the Miami-born rapper known for highlighting his coke-dealing past, found himself in Medellin, Colombia—a city known for its coke-dealing. Sporting a white linen suit, his staple dark shades and an iced-out bracelet, Ross was filming the video for the single “All I Really Want.” At one point, a sun-kissed woman wearing a gold bra-and-panty set caressed the shoulders of the 300-pound self-proclaimed boss as he sat on the edge of his bed, overlooking the city.Last weekend, when he shot a video for the promo single “Cold Blood,” Ross traded the sunshine of Medellin for the darker tones of a funeral parlor. Clad in a black suit, black leather gloves and another pair of shades, he sat in a back pew and watched a makeshift ceremony. It was a memorial for the death of Curtis Jackson, aka 50 Cent.Since the beginning of this year, Ross and 50 Cent have taken verbal and visual jabs at each other. While this beef hasn’t—and hopefully won’t—escalate to physical confrontations, the release of Ross’s first promo single “Mafia Music” led to an onslaught of Web-released diss tracks, cartoon spoofs, comedy skits, music videos, photos, Web sites and more from both sides.The real winner may be Universal Music Group, which owns Island Def Jam and Interscope, the labels the rappers are signed to. Since the dispute started in January, the sales of Ross’ two previous albums have increased by 62%, while sales of 50 Cent’s three catalog titles grew by 74%, according to Nielsen SoundScan. And the more that bloggers wrote about the battle, according to the online chatter tracker Nielsen BuzzMetrics, the more the two artists reaped the benefits. “Deeper Than Rap” looks as though it will debut atop the Billboard 200 next week with sales of about 150,000 copies.“For Ross, the beef actually elevated him to a national platform, but his music is incredible enough to back it up,” says Chris Atlas, senior VP of marketing for IDJ, Ross’ label. “If it was just purely beef and we had wack music, there’s nothing to sell. But the beef got him even more national attention, and when those who hadn’t checked for him went out and heard his previous music, Ross was able to back it up. And now, controversy aside, the music is speaking for him. There is a lot of anticipation for this album.”To hear Ross talk, it sounds as though the video for “Cold Blood” just metaphorically buried 50 himself—not their feud. “Money doesn’t make me—I make the money,” he says. “That applies to my opposition. If you rely on your money, you’re engaging in something that won’t work. If you aren’t making music that people want to hear or are in the streets with the people, you’re going to run out of things to do. Cartoons can only take you so far.”

Eminem Vs. Benzino - Who Really Won (2017 Diverse Mentality MiniDocumentary) Aside from dissing The Source in his interviews, he also refused to talk to Benzino to help promote his new film, 8 Mile. He was performing in Puerto Rico when Benzino showed up backstage for an interview, but Eminem gave him a hard pass. Benzino later shared the story in an interview, then proceeded to diss him in a freestyle.Later in 2002, Benzino released "Pull Your Skirt Up" and took shots at Eminem with lyrics like: "The 2003 Vanilla Ice how you playin it/ If you ask me, you really ain't that nice you overrated." He also referenced Eminem's response to his album rating, saying: "You was unsigned hype before you ever met Dre/ I birthed your little career, now you owe your life to Ray."When the rapper was asked about his motivation behind the song, he said: "I had a problem with 'the machine,' with the double standard in hip-hop. Certain media outlets take to him and look at him as the savior in hip-hop and the No. 1 in hip-hop and [do] not recognize the guys out here that created hip hop."Benzino also shared: "Eminem is just the hood ornament for the machine. You think I could grab my crotch and put my a-- in people's faces the way he does? No way. But as long as the color of his skin and his eyes fits what America wants, it's all right."
Benzino also released "I Don't Wanna," which had lyrics that were even more intense: "I don’t care how much records you sold/ You can’t walk through the hood without the Men in Black/ You disrespect your moms’ b---h, you deserve a smack." Yikes...The rapper came out with "Invasion," "The Sauce," and the well-known "Nail in the Coffin." Judging by the lyrics, the rapper pulled no punches. He poked fun at things like Benzino's rapping skills, his age, his gangster act, and his weird business practices.In an interview with Hot97, he said: “I’ve never met this man, this girl. She is obsessed with me. I never would think I would see the day when I seen the worst rapper in the world going against one of the best.”

LL Cool J Vs. Canibus - Who Really Won (2017 Diverse Mentality MiniDocumentary) Who remembers one of the greatest hip hop battles between LL Cool J and Canibus? Every hip hop fan should remember this because we got some pretty epic bars from both MC’s. The streets are currently talking about Drake and Pusha T which was a decent battle but it pales in comparison to the LL vs. Canibus. Both Drake and Pusha T I have a lot of respect for and I appreciate their talents but, none of them went super aggressive. Pusha T had a lot of personal jabs which Drake was not able to really counter but I didn’t get the same feel of energy as the LL vs. Canibus.I get it that Pusha T and Drake’s styles are a bit more laid back and that is totally fine, it is just a difference of style. Just like how Canibus is super lyrical, his delivery was not as energetic as LL’s. Both artists are really great, LL a bit more accomplished because he entered the music business much earlier on, but it is a toss up according to some people on who actually won the battle.The issue started when LL was releasing his hit track 4,3,2,1 which featured Canibus, Redman, Method Man, Master P and the dog DMX. Canibus had a rhyme on there talking about taking the mic off of LL’s arm and LL took it as a diss. Canibus did not mean it as a diss but this is how it all started. LL made Canibus change his rhyme on his own track and then turned around and dissed Canibus on his own track that featured Canibus.Canibus responded with 2nd Round Knockout that featured the heavyweight legend Mike Tyson in the music video. This was a great track but then LL Cool J responded with Ripper Strikes Back. I hate to take sides but I just loved the energy that LL had on his response track and I personally like Ripper Strikes Back a little bit more. Many will argue that Canibus won it though. Pusha T Vs Drake- Who REALLY Won- (Part 2 of 2) (2020 Diverse Mentality MiniDocumentary) While Drake has yet to respond (again) in the ongoing beef with Pusha T, many have been clowning Drizzy (as if they could not wait for a reason to) throughout social media. While the memes have been comical and entertaining, the real question that lies is, who really won this beef so far? Is there even a winner? Many have voiced their opinion that Pusha utterly bodied the 6 God and that there really is nothing that Drake can say or do at this point.We all know the beef started with Pusha’s Daytona album, specifically on the cut “Infrared,” where Pusha made a claim that we have all heard before — Drake doesn’t write his own rhymes. With that, the pot began to stir. Drake quickly fired back with his “Duppy Freestyle,” a freestyle which truly delivered in every sense. With a quick sigh, Drake aimed the gun straight at Push’s head and fired without a second thought. He subtly checked Kanye and reminded him who helped him on songs on his seventh studio album, The Life of Pablo and then re-loaded and aimed at Pusha again. Drake came straight for Pusha’s career and authenticity, insinuating that not only is he not even in the top 5 rank of his music label, but that he is not even a real drug pusher (as widely believed), and his skill as an artist is not even remotely near that of his own. The flow was flawless, the delivery was sharp and humorous, and it seemed as if Drizzy didn’t even break a sweat making the freestyle. Not to mention, Drake ended it in the best way possible, when he sent an invoice to the G.O.O.D. Music camp for “promotional assistance and career-reviving.” It was clear Drake won round 1 with ease.Now, it quickly got messy after Pusha did some investigating and clap backed in such a way it could be felt worldwide. Before even releasing the diss, Pusha unveiled the cover art for “The Story of Adidon.” That alone opened such a can of worms on social media that people’s focused shifted, with a young Drake smiling in minstrel show blackface make up. It got even worse with the diss. Over Hov’s “The Story of O.J.” track, Pusha utterly violated Drake, making claims that the rapper had a son with a porn star and has basically been hiding the baby. He continued the disrespect with shots to the Canadian rapper’s father, his identity within the African American community, and his responsibilities as a man and father to the unknown baby. Pusha took it even further with sick lines to Drake’s friend and producer Noah James Shebib (aka 40) who suffers from multiple sclerosis. DAMN!Overall, the truth is: from the music that we have heard, it’s a tie. Drake had a great diss, and Pusha had an absolutely disrespectful diss. Both dished out some serious damage and really laid it on the table, but Drake did not completely just lose. Drake’s diss hit Pusha’s pride more. From what previous album releases have shown, Drizzy isn’t lying with what he said in “Duppy’s Freestyle”. Let’s not forget, Drake questioning the credibility in Pusha’s drug game. He basically said the man has been heavily exaggerating this drug life that he romanticizes. Because of this, Pusha really needed something to get back at him; therefore he lurked into the trenches and found some spicy information that would garner the desired controversy and notice. Regardless, both came prepared and ready for battle and both make good music.

King Von - Welcome to my Neighborhood_O Block (2020 Documentary) King Von was born in Chicago, IL. He spent most of his life in Parkway Gardens, aka "O'Block" located at the corner of 64th and Martin Luther King Drive in the South Side of Chicago. He grew up as childhood friends with rapper Lil Durk, as well as fellow Parkway Gardens resident Chief Keef. He is known for his nickname "Grandson" which refers to David Barksdale, the founder of the Black Disciples who King Von is allegedly a member of. He got the name in jail when many people who knew David said that he reminded them of the gang leader in how he handles himself in the streets as well as his general demeanor.[citation needed] King Von currently resides in Atlanta, Georgia.At age 16, Von went to jail for the first time. This would only be the start of a long course of legal troubles for the rapper. In 2014, he was accused of a shooting that killed one and wounded another. After proving his innocence and beating the case, King Von took to rapping, collaborating with Lil Durk with singles, who eventually signed him into his OTF (Only The Family) Entertainment label & EMPIRE.

T.I. Vs. Lil Flip - Who Really Won (2017 Diverse Mentality MiniDocumentary) Back in 2003 when Tip started to call himself the "King of The South," Lil' Flip rejected that claim. In 2004, T.I. was in jail for violating the terms of his probation that stemmed from a 1998 conviction for violating a state controlled substances act and for giving false information. A beef began to brew over the next couple of months as the two Southern rappers traded shots at one another on their respective songs and mixtapes.The beef came to a boil when Tip went on Houston radio station 97.9 and dissed Flip over the air, plus stated that he's coming to Flip's Cloverland neighborhood to shoot a video exposing Flip as a fraud. T.I.'s crew and Lil' Flip's crew confronted each other at a detail shop near Cloverburger and a fight ensued. T.I. would later go on the radio and say that he recorded the whole incident and will release it with his next mixtape.Last year, Lil' Flip spoke about ending his beef with Tip during an interview with Vlad TV, saying the feud ended when himself, T.I. and J. Prince sat down for a face-to-face conversation."What we said was at an undisclosed location and cooler heads prevailed. You know, at the end of the day, it was some petty shit. That's what grown men do, sit down and figure this shit out," said Flip.

Pusha T Vs. Lil Wayne - Who Really Won (Part 1 of 2) (2020 Diverse Mentality MiniDocumentary) How did the Lil Wayne vs. Pusha-T beef start? A brief history.
Before becoming a solo artist, Pusha-T was part of the group Clipse, along with his brother, No Malice. In 2002, Lil Wayne and Baby featured on the remix of Clipse’s track, “Grindin'.” Pusha and No Malice also featured on a Birdman song, “What Happened to That Boy,” which was produced by long-time Clipse collaborators The Neptunes (comprised of Chad Hugo and Pharrell Williams). This is when the problems between Wayne and Pusha began, according to Ebro Darden’s recount on Hot 97's Ebro in the Morning back in 2018.On the show, Darden explained that The Neptunes were never paid for their work with Birdman, which resulted in Pharrell refusing to work with Birdman’s label, Cash Money Records (CMR), ever again. So when Wayne (also on CMR) later approached Pharrell asking for Billionaire Boys Club gear, he was turned down.Still, Wayne wore Billionaire Boys Club for his “Hustler Muzik” video and rocked BAPE (which Pharrell had been wearing for years) on a VIBE cover in 2006 — stylistic moves that didn't go unnoticed. When Pusha-T and Malice dropped “Mr. Me Too" feat. Pharrell, it called out those jacking Clipse and Pharrell’s style, which was seen as a subtle diss aimed at Wayne. In a 2006 Complex interview, Wayne then claimed to be the one who made wearing BAPE hot — not Pharrell.
In the following years, Wayne and Pusha continued to trade subtle jabs, but it was Pusha-T’s 2012 Drake diss “Exodus 23:1” that put any doubts to rest. On the song, Pusha clearly went after Wayne and Cash Money Records, “You signed to one nigga that signed to another nigga / That’s signed to three niggas, now that’s bad luck.”After that, Wayne responded with a tweet saying “Fuck Pusha-T and everybody that love em.” He also released a Pusha-T diss record of his own, “Ghoulish,” which quoted the tweet and doubled down on its message. “His head up his ass, Imma have to head-butt him.”Fast forward eight years and the feud between the rappers is all but forgotten — at least it is to Wayne, anyway.

One where he’s a pioneer of a Chicago drill scene full of artists who survived, stayed free, and coexisted enough to become a multi-platinum music scene, ala Atlanta trap? Or the current reality, where many drill artists have died or went to prison, and his presence isn’t just a testament to his musical ability but to his resolve? It’s a debatable topic, but either way you look at it, Chief Keef is an icon.There are fans who view him as a cautionary tale of immaturity and unfulfilled potential. But the question then would be fulfillment for who? Chief Keef turns 25 today, and he’s done about everything he wanted to do, no matter who didn’t want him to do it. He’s a legend, not just because he helped introduce drill music to the world and became a pillar of a city that rewrote the cultural lexicon, but because he beat the music industry at their own game. Chief Keef, born Keith Farrelle Cozart, was a 16-year-old on house arrest when he first reached national notoriety. A chance encounter with the Chicago Police Department turned into four felonies after the cops alleged that he aimed a gun at them and ran away. Considering the plight of Black people at the hands of cops, it’s a minor miracle that he left that situation alive. He received 30 days of house arrest and 30 days of home confinement for the charges, which included unlawful use of a gun.In a peculiar twist of fate, a viral video of a fan celebrating his release from house arrest roused people to look him up online. Curious scavengers found Bang and the video for the title track, which soon amassed millions of views. Bang was undoubtedly inspired by Gucci Mane and Waka Flocka’s output, but instead of replicating Gucci’s dexterous twang or Flocka’s brute force, Keef commandeered the menacing production with a steely, at times melodic delivery. Chicago had long been known for Kanye West and Common on one spectrum, and Do or Die and Twista on the other, but something new was happening. Keef was a burgeoning master of drill music, a churning cousin of trap born from Chicago’s gang epidemic.

What Happend To Hurricane Chris (2020 Diverse Mentality MiniDocumentary) Hurricane Chris, known for the song “A Bay Bay,” has been arrested on a murder charge in Louisiana.The rapper, whose real name is Christopher Dooley Jr., was arrested early Friday (June 19) on one count each of second-degree murder and illegal possession of stolen things, Shreveport Police said in a news release. Dooley, 31, of Shreveport, was being held without bond at the city jail. Online jail records did not indicate if he had an attorney who could speak on his behalf.Police responded shortly after 1 a.m. Friday to a reported shooting at a gas station in Shreveport, news outlets reported. Officers found one person suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. He was pronounced dead at a hospital.Dooley, who had gone into the gas station’s store, initially told police that he had shot a man who he thought was trying to steal his vehicle. But video footage appears to show otherwise, police said in a news release. The car Dooley was in had also been reported stolen from Texas, the release said.The Shreveport native, who is the godson of former Democratic state Rep. Barbara Norton, is best known for his 2007 album 51/50 Ratchet, which includes his hit single, “A Bay Bay.” That track’s music video has nearly 30 million views on YouTube.

Soulja Slim - Original Soulja Slim (2020 Documentary) (Narrated By Video Wayne) James Adarryl Tapp Jr. (September 9, 1977 – November 26, 2003), better known by his stage name Soulja Slim, was an American rapper and songwriter. He was known for writing the U.S. number one hit "Slow Motion".Tapp died on November 26, 2003, after an assailant shot him four times, three in the face and once in the chest, on the front lawn of the home of his mother and stepfather, Phillip "Tuba Phil" Frazier of Rebirth Brass Band, in the Gentilly neighborhood. Tapp was buried with his Cut Throat Comitty charm and jewelry, and the outfit he wore on the cover of Give It 2 'Em Raw.On December 31, 2003, police arrested 22-year-old Garelle Smith in connection with Tapp's murder. Police discovered a stolen police pistol in Smith's possession with a scratched-off serial number. A ballistics test matched bullets from that gun to the ones that killed Tapp, but no witnesses would testify against him. By 2008, Smith had been arrested for three more murders, and, in each case, charges were dropped and he was released due to lack of witnesses and the New Orleans 60-day law. Smith's murders, including that of Tapp, became cold cases. Smith himself was found shot to death on August 13, 2011.

Even Drake, who is famously unafraid to appear sensitive and vulnerable in his songs, never wavers on this: haters are losers who do not deserve his attention. “Got one reply for all of your comments: fuck what you think,” as he put it on last year’s “Tuscan Leather.”T-Pain was never very good at being a rapper. He tried to be, when he was just starting out. But, as he told me in a recent interview, he ultimately decided to break into hip-hop as a singer instead. The move worked: T-Pain’s first album, the aptly named “Rappa Ternt Sanga,” released in 2005, made the chubby twenty-year-old from Tallahassee a star. Before long, he was generating one hit single after another, both on his own and as a featured guest alongside heavyweights like Kanye West, R. Kelly, and E-40. Even at the height of his celebrity, he never acted tough or particularly cool; his trademark accessories were a giant top hat and Oakley sunglasses that made him look like a snowboarder. Lately, T-Pain has been doing something even more unorthodox in hip-hop: telling sad stories, in public, about what it felt like when everyone, including some of his fellow-artists, started treating him like a joke.The songs that made T-Pain a household name in the mid-aughts were mostly about having fun at night clubs and hanging out with pretty girls, but the most important thing they shared was a signature studio effect called Auto-Tune.
