Decided to re-re-revisit this game after a long hiatus from playing retro games. Sadly, I don't have a very large cartridge collection, so from this point on, I'll have to start using emulator. On the bright side, this will open up a plethora of new games to challenge!

Back to doing a classic run through Ninja Gaiden. Had a few errors which cost me some time, including taking to much damage on Stage 6 which forced me to forego a few skips. Overall, a decent run.

An old-school sort-of-speedrun of Mario 64 where I complete the game with only 16 stars. For a long time, this was thought to be the fastest way to complete the game. That is, until the SM64 speedrunning scene exploded around 2011 or so. After that point, many glitches and skips were found that completely tear the game apart while a lot of high-level players entered the fray. This, on the other hand, is a more traditional run as it would have looked before it became a hot speed game.

As for the run itself, I make quite a bit of really silly mistakes, but I don't really mind. It's actually a little faster to get the two slide stars at the beginning, but I opted to get two snow level stars instead just to make it more interesting. I never expected this to be an amazing run, but it's another game I can add under my belt. I wanted to do other N64 games anyway so stay tuned!

So after beating Magic Sword and Super Valis IV, I decided to try and easy game next to relax. However, this one turned out to be hard than both of them! Mostly because of the one hit deaths. The priority here was no deaths. It certainly is not a speedrun, considering I actually get lost in the final level and have to backtrack!

Here's a POV view of a mediocre, two-death Ninja Gaiden speedrun on the NES, featuring guest commentary from my three-year-old son. I've gotten better times than this in the past. This is just a fun run I did for the heck of it.

Yet another brutally hard SNES game taken to the cleaners. This time, it's a port of one of Capcom's lesser known titles. Just when I was about to write this game off as unfeasible for a deathless run, I was somehow able to squeeze out a no death practice run. After that, I decided to whip out the camera and then this miracle happened. To beat this game without dying, you basically have to spend the first 4/5 of the game maximizing your health just so you can survive the final few floors. The only thing I'm unsatisfied with about this run is that it was on Normal. I still want to revisit this game on Hard, but for that to happen, I would really need to crack the game open and see where all the health drops are. Until then, enjoy this Normal mode deathless run, complete with a totally over-the-top victory celebration, lol!

This run is an homage of sorts to The Retro Challenger. Didn't play this much back in the day because I didn't understand it. Turned out to be better than I remembered. This could also be considered a de facto WR, considering I haven't been able to find any other legit hard mode, US version run of this game online. Also worth noting is that other speedruns of this are on the JP version, which is easier because your attacks do more damage while you receive less damage from enemies.

My review of Super Valis IV:
The best parts of this game are easily the controls and graphics. The controls are very smooth and responsive. It's stimulating battling the various monsters throughout the levels. The game also looks gorgeous at times, especially the anime-inspired cutscenes. Where the game falls flat is the level design, which unfortunately drags the good elements down. The levels and some of the bosses feel amateurishly designed. The early levels are bland and undetailed, while later levels are cruelly unfair with some ridiculous obstacles that are literally impossible to get through without taking damage. Overall, I'd give this game a C+.

Clear Time: 26:14

This run came after several days of attempts. I kept losing runs in the very last rooms of the game, which put me off a bit. All my good, informative commentary was on the failed attempts. Instead, you get to hear me making up lyrics to the music and making gutteral noises when things get tense. Regardless, I managed to pull out a fairly quick deathless speedrun. I also got a big break at the end. The jetpack enemies were 100% cooperative and let me through with no problems (a rare sight!)

Time from game start to final door: 14:18

Every retro gamer needs their own SMB2 playthrough, right? In this run, I play through the game deathless using only the princess and without any ridiculous glitches that involve duplicating items or running above the ceiling. Be sure to watch to the end because the last few levels of this run are edge-of-your-seat tense! My two-year-old son also joins as a guest commentator.

So the question of the day, does this still count as deathless? ;)

Lost a lot of time on the base stages because I couldn't get a straight stream of bullets on the base stages to save my life, but I did call the Stage 6 boss a bitch so that makes up for it. This was a pretty average attempt imo.

Special shoutouts to The Retro Challenger for inspiring to make this video :)

Forgive me if my commentary seems a bit too mumbling. It was in the middle of the night when I recorded this so I was already a bit tired, lol. Some parts were really stupid but I accomplished my goal of doing a deathless no mixer run in under 50 minutes. I don't use any mixers because I never actually took the time to learn how to do it haha.
