Apply now to Ralston College's new full scholarship MA Humanities program for the fall of 2022.

I am pleased to offer two dozen fortunate young people seeking the best higher education has to offer what I truly believe will be a life-changing opportunity. This is the chance to apply to the first Master’s degree offering of Ralston College, a new educational institution situated in Savannah, Georgia. I have agreed to serve as Chancellor for Ralston. The chancellorship is —an, a role that is both symbolic, in relation to my public profile as an advocate of classical education and free speech, and practical, in that I am actively working with Ralston in an advisory and administrative role.

I have been working particularly closely over the last few years helping to set up this new institution with Ralston’s President and founder, Dr. Stephen Blackwood. The college, which will operate in the traditional brick-and-mortar manner, is in the process of revitalizing three historic buildings in central Savannah—the first steps toward the establishment of a full campus—with the full and vigorous support of the local community.

Ralston is first aimed at the renewal of serious humanities education, based on firm faith in the value of past human endeavour, oriented toward a future deemed to be, in principle, bright and abundant without limitation.

Ralston will be offering its first advanced education degree program, a one-year MA in the Humanities, in the fall of 2022. If you are someone who has dreamed of expanding your knowledge of the classical humanities and, simultaneously, in having the intellectual and moral adventure of your life, then this is the program for you. We are looking for bright, adventurous, conscientious, ambitious and ethical young people, devoted to first to educating themselves in the most profound possible sense, and second to making the best possible us..

In celebration of part 4/4 of "The Adventures of Pinocchio and Free Speech" compilation series (available in audio-only format on the JBP Podcast), we decided to revisit a classic lecture from Dr. Peterson's 2015 Maps of Meaning series discussing the 1940 Disney classic Pinocchio.

Why is free speech important? Just to defend hedonic freedom? Is there any difference between free speech and free thought? Do we (mostly) think in words or images? Was Plato right - does learning equal remembering, in some sense? How do internal debates work?

Society depends on its ability to adapt to the changes it faces, and grope collectively towards the truth.

Dr. Andrew Lo, Professor of Economics at MIT, hosted this wonderful Q&A session with Dr. Peterson on February 25th, 2022. It was a particularly interesting session with great MIT alumni questions like 'What should we do about our declining population?' and 'What will happen when automation replaces human intelligence and skills?'

I discussed gratitude, faith, and suffering in this conversation at the Franciscan University of Steubenville. How can we be sure that pain is a solid guiding principle as we navigate the world? What is the underlying structure of pain, and what does it point at?

We also touched on a myriad of topics around those central themes, such as sin and the symbol of the snake, giving advice, resurrection, the relationship between faith and suffering, evil, the effect we have on others, and sunsets.

In this speech at the Franciscan University of Steubenville, Jordan shared recent thoughts on ethics, scripture, and the problem of perception. He asked the audience to reflect on how we remember great stories (but seem to instantly forget bad ones), why Western culture ended up being a book (instead of—say—a sickle), and whether the West truly is a “phallogocentric" culture.

All of this, Jordan says, tied to a broader possibility—perhaps his “most radical claim"—that, as we navigate the value structures we call reality, a lot of so-called “navigational” problems are really veiled ethical ones.

Dr. Peterson and Dr. Richard Wrangham exchange thoughts on the human capacity for "appalling violence," especially since we're still "living in the shadow of World War II."

How did humans commit such atrocities while simultaneously being the kindest animals? Are we more aggressive than (say) chimps or bonobos? Is human aggression natural, but appeased by socialization? Or is it the opposite—with society driving and amplifying our violent tendencies? Were hunter-gatherers generous? And what is "proactive aggression"?

Jordan explains some mechanisms we can exploit to optimize critical thinking. Step by step, he goes through his own process for critical thinking so that listeners can replicate it.

What constitutes critical thinking? Why think at all? What is the 'dialectical process' in critical thinking? How can we refine our ideas? And where should they even come from?

Dr. Peterson, James Orr, and Arif Ahmed discuss bureaucracy and free speech at The University of Cambridge, isolation, social media, the Pareto principle, fear-shaped mental illnesses, how a "confident minority" turns into an "unassailable orthodoxy" and why, if left unattended, free speech issues - like wounds - worsen long before they improve.

I spoke to Richard Wrangham about his research on ape behavior. We explored prerequisites for chimp attacks, how cooking shaped human cognitive development, studying chimps in the wild with Jane Goodall, DNA similarity studies, proactive vs. reactive aggression, and more.

Richard is a biological anthropologist at Harvard, specializing in the study of primates and the evolution of violence, sex, cooking, and culture. He’s also a MacArthur fellow—the so-called “genius grant”—and the author of books like 'The Goodness Paradox: The Strange Relationship Between Virtue and Violence in Human Evolution' and 'Demonic Males: Apes and the Origins of Human Violence.'

12 Rules for Life: An Antidote..

The right to speak is critically important to allow our civilization not only to thrive but to survive. In part 2 of this compilation, we examine the power of free speech and potential responses to censorship.

After a lecture excerpt on the “initial defeat of the hero,” we transition into conversations on hate crime laws, the idea behind 'No Safe Spaces,’ and the events that lead Paul Rossi, a NY private school teacher, to take a stand against seminars on "white dominant culture" being taught as gospel. We also travel across the pond to have Andrew Doyle explain recent hate crime laws passed in the UK Parliament, and why they affect citizens more broadly than you may think.

Free Speech & Safe Spaces

In part 1 out of 4 of this compilation series, we look at excerpts from the Maps of Meaning lecture series as well as how issues around free speech have affected Bret Weinstein, Heather Heying, Yeon Mi Park, Arif Ahmed, Dennis Prager, Rima Azar, James Orr, and Paul Rossi.

This ties to Dr. Peterson’s recent lecture at Cambridge, which he titled Why Free Speech Is the Antidote to Our Problems. In keeping with that motif, we hope this compilation inspires you to speak the truth and protect our most fundamental rights as sovereign individuals.

Dr. Peterson recently traveled to the UK for a series of lectures at the highly esteemed Universities of Oxford and Cambridge. This conversation was recorded during that period with Sir Roger Penrose, a British mathematical physicist who was awarded the 2020 Nobel Prize in Physics for “discovering that black hole formation is a robust predictor of Einstein’s general relativity.” Moderated by Dr. Stephen Blackwood.
