In this video I walk through every step of starting a new witness server for Smoke using the Docker image I created to help make the processes a bit easier.

How IPFS Works In A Nutshell
1. Each file receives a cryptographic hash (an identifier) which is the unique identifier for that content.
2. IPFS then removes any duplicates on the network based on the ID that file received. Since no two files have the same identifier, we can be sure that it is unique. If it does have a match, we can assume that the data is an exact copy with zero alterations.
3. Each node then stores any and all content it is set up to accept this may or may not include the file that you added to the IPFS network. Your data is "backed up" so to speak on all nodes that will accept your content.
4. Once the material is finished propagating, we can ask the network for the file of a particular hash. As we download the content, the system pulls bits from many servers hosting a part of that file matching our requested hash.

There was no stone un-turned in this hour! We talk about why having a niche is essential, how to find the best niche, and what to do once you have your niche nailed down.

I encourage audience participation as well, and I do spend time reading relevant questions that arise throughout the show. If you have questions while listening, please feel free to leave a comment and I'll be happy to help you out.

What Is A Niche?
A niche in blogging is a specific topic we set ourselves to write about. It can be anything from technology to cooking to sewing. The choice of your niche is up to you to decide.

See it on Steemit first!

Every device today has the option to encrypt your phone or tablet. Encryption on your phone or tablet is more important than encrypting your desktop computer or a device that never leaves your home.

Your best option is a passphrase and fingerprint combination. A passphrase will not be easy for an attacker to memorize if you need to enter it in the event that the fingerprint scanner does not work.

So what you should do is at least check so you know what you are getting into. If you calculator app needs access to your camera, contact, or phone calls, you need to find a new calculator.

If you are feeling extra top secret and want to take your security to the next level, you can get a special, sticky, front-facing camera cover.

What a crazy week Bitcoin has had. At the time I am writing this it's broken through $5,700 USD and does not look like it will slow down just yet. I would not end up surprised if we see six thousand USD by next week and am positive we will have that level come the November hard fork.

PGP stands for 'Pretty Good Privacy' and rightfully so, it's pretty darn good! It is used to encrypt messages and files on your computer to be sent to another user securely and privately. This can also be used to signing a file or message so that anyone who had the file can verify that it is from you.

Keybase is a PGP key directory at it's most basic level. What is really cool about Keybase though and what sets it apart from any other PGP key directory is the social media mapping. You can verify that you are the same person on each social media site. From Facebook to Twitter to Reddit and GitHub! You can even verify that you own a particular website and post your public keys to your Bitcoin and zCash wallets.

Bitcoin Gold is another hark fork hitting the Bitcoin scene. This will go live on, or around, October 25th of 2017. Bitcoin Gold's aim is to change how the algorithm works to make it "asic resistant". This would allow for people to mine for Bitcoin Gold with only a decent graphics card. If you own a good gaming PC you will, in theory, own a good Bitcoin Gold mining rig.

In this episode we chat about Bitcoin Cash, Segwit2x, and a whole bunch of altcoins!

Bitcoin cash is a hard fork of the bitcoin project.
Segwit is now considered 'core' in most people's eyes and I'll do the same since saying segwit verses segwit2x could potentially get confusing.
ChainLink has been having a great week and is currently sitting around $0.40 as of this video.

Security and privacy on the internet is a very big deal today but it was even back when I gave a talk in 2007 to a group of 8th graders at a small private school. I take this very seriously, my wife even calls me obsessed...

I've been a big advocate of Google services for a long time. I always understood the standpoint that being free services they have the right to use the data I'm putting in. This is how they can make great products and keep them free.

I'd also like to say before getting into this post that if you understand how Google uses your data and you are ok with that then keep using the services. They are the best on the web and on mobile devices currently.

So why am I running a version of android without Google services?

Honestly, I wanted to see if it was possible and if I would notice a difference. This post is my experience with the process and about a month of being 'de-googled'.

I chose to go with LineageOS. They produce a very stripped down version of android that is functional for daily use. Do keep in mind that my daily use tolerance of buggieness might be higher than yours. LineageOS is only released on 'nightlies' for most devices.

First you need to allow your deivce to install 3rd party apps via apk. This can be easily searched online to find the exact steps to get to the settings for your specific device.

Since I do not have any Google services on my device I can't simply go to the play store to download an app. Luckly there are other options.

fDroid is an open source repository of apps made for android. Some of the big names are there. Such as telegram, the chat app.

Most of the apps we use have an alternative on fDroid. This does not mean you will find the exact app but will often find an app that is just as good and sometimes better.
