Gold recovery from carpet is an old prospector's trick. Placer gold miners would take a piece of carpet, and lay it in a gold bearing stream or river. After a few days, they'd come back and clean the carpet, recovering the gold that became trapped in it's fibers. Today I try doing this with a piece of carpet I found while gold prospecting.
