This video is a test of two things. First, it’s to see if it’s possible to remotely cause someone to cringe to death. But secondly, I guess it’s to see how I like this new kind of video format. Please keep in mind that this format of video is sorta new to me, so I might suck at it at first. I’ll try to get better at it as quickly as possible. I promise. Oh, and also, yes. I know my camera sucks. It’s a shitty built-in webcam.
The amount of time and effort it took for me to motivate myself to get this video made is all the more reason I should change up my format to a more laid-back model. Regardless, I couldn’t NOT make a video about this because it’s the same kind of bullshit gamers have been dealing with for decades. From Jack Thompson clutching his pearls over violent video games and claiming they cause real-life violence, to Anita Sarkeesian claiming video games are sexist and they cause real world sexism, to President Clown Face blaming violent video games for mass shootings, gaming has always been blamed for ridiculous things. Now, a supposed gamer with a popular gaming YouTube channel is blaming his own alleged hobby for normalizing Nazis. Does he realize it’s not the 1940’s anymore? I was actually going to do a Christmas themed episode of the G.B.U., but then I realized how trivial the stories I was planning on covering in that really were, so I scrapped it despite having written about half of the script for it. THEN, I was going to do another compilation of partial Christmas song parodies like I did back in 2016. But I really only had one other idea and this one stood out as having much more “meat on the bone” to make a full song parody of, hence this video.

I used to think I had a decent singing voice… and then I tried to make this video. And before anyone notices and points it out in the comments, yes, I basically ripped off the “fuck you, fuck ukuleles” bit from Doctorrandomercam and Tailed Feature’s response to sing “Yes you can, you’re just afraid to” during parts of her song. But you know what? It was too good NOT to rip it off. Oh yeah, also, I’m sorry about like… literally every musical aspect of this video being wrong. I needed a premade copyright-free guitar loop in a short amount of time (since I can’t play any instrument worth a shit) and beggars can’t be choosers. This is why I am not a musician.

So, after I recorded this video, I noticed at least a couple other YouTubers that I watch making videos about it. Some no doubt went into more detail and showed more outraged tweets than I did. Some probably projected their own anti-immigrant sensibilities onto the game, therefore agreeing with the outrage mob intellectually, but having a different emotional response to it. Some just wanted to “pwn the libs”. I think I gave the best context for the joke in question through my knowledge of the DOOM series that I grew up with. In short, it may have been a bit of a jab at PC culture, but it damn sure wasn’t an anti-immigration message. Immigration and INVASION are not the same thing and besides, the line was just a corrupt corporate entity putting out PR propaganda to downplay their monumental fuck-up and quell the panic in whatever remained of humanity at that point. What they should have said was “Please remain calm. The Doom Slayer is awake and will put an end to this invasion in no time. P.S. We’re really sorry about this, but we needed energy!” Longest. Description. Ever.
