The next step in my chicken breeding project: rooster behavior!

I thought all the almond seedlings were dead.

I try to do a post every Friday, bit it's not working...

I found a new way to start pineapples, one which will theoretically start true new plants, not plants that think they've already done their job.

I re-use the "throwaway" lids. Call me evil. I don't care. They work better than the new lids.

First mushrooms from my yard!

Where does the water run? I need more experience with this...

Building a grow out pen for the young roosters, otherwise known as a "bachelor pad." This pen will never have hens in it, because it would be impossible to collect eggs.

We have fishies! Time to start working on the biosphere. This needs to be balanced and able to care for itself.

The waterless watermelon patch update. These have never been watered, but are growing on the edge of the woodchip piles.

I needed to refill the aquaponics system, and forgot about it with the hose running.

Apparently the fish find my system perfectly congenial. Or conjugal? Whatever.

Insulation and chimney test (primarily). A couple more steps before I can call it an oven, but it's progress!

I salt cured a whole pork loin--well, technically two half pork loins. This is after curing for one month.

Sealed the burn chamber and riser. The thing burns through more wood than I expected (but at least it's all sticks)!

Much larger than I expected, but that's fine. I'm starting to see it coming together.

Sealed the burn chamber and riser with ferrocement, which is a mix of cement and sand. It should be dry within a day or two and I'll post a burn test.

2nd in-place test, with the riser moved forward to the edge of the pad.

First test with the stove in its final position.

Note: There will be more of these coming, I will post them as I finish each stage.

Made the burn chamber a little higher and it's drawing much better. Fire started drawing into the burn chamber almost immediately. Wind was blowing, so the water never reached a full boil.

I decided to do the whole potato patch with the growth buds off of the potatoes rather than seed potatoes this year. So far, so good.

I'm finally able to walk on uneven surfaces without my foot telling me to STOP. So you get a mini tour.

Currently I am growing pistachios and working on a rocket stove for outdoor cooking.
