On the anniversary of the death of Mary Phagan, we present the 100 reasons why Leo Frank is guilty as charged. MARY PHAGAN was just thirteen years old. She was a sweatshop laborer for Atlanta, Georgia’s National Pencil Company. Exactly 100 years ago today — Saturday, April 26, 1913 — little Mary (pictured, artist’s depiction) was looking forward to the festivities of Confederate Memorial Day. She dressed gaily and planned to attend the parade. She had just come to collect her $1.20 pay from National Pencil Company superintendent Leo M. Frank at his office when she was attacked by an assailant who struck her down, ripped her undergarments, likely attempted to sexually abuse her, and then strangled her to death. Her body was dumped in the factory basement.

Major article (36,000 words) by crusading publisher and experienced trial lawyer Thomas Watson (later a US senator from Georgia) confirming the guilt of Leo Frank (a New York City Jew, president of B'nai B'rith of Atlanta, and manager at an Atlanta pencil factory) in the rape and murder of his 13-year-old employee, Mary Phagan. Leo Frank had been found guilty by an Atlanta jury and sentenced to death in August 1913, but was still appealing his sentence when this March 1915 article came out, and a massive nationwide media campaign was accusing Georgians of "antisemitism."

The 'Leo Frank Case' is an early analysis by Tom Watson, a seasoned lawyer and populist politician, who reviews the investigation, evidence and official testimony of the Leo M. Frank murder trial (July 28, 1913 to August 26, 1913). Watson discusses the Leo Frank Case in this January 1915 issue with new insights, energy, wit, sarcasm and vigor from his earlier introductions of the case in his Jeffersonian Newspaper (1914) issues on the affair.
The January issue is the first of five reviews of the case you must read. In Watson's later works on the the Leo M. Frank case he does a better job of articulating the Leo M. Frank murder confession than Hugh M. Dorsey and Frank Arthur Hooper do in the August and September issues, 1915.

A film produced in 1935 by African-American director Oscar Micheaux. This film was lost until rediscovered by researchers at Southern Methodist University in Dallas, TX. It is loosely based on the events around the 1913 murder of 13-year-old girl Mary Phagan and the conviction of her boss, Leo Frank. It stands as one of the earliest surviving examples of Black-directed cinema. The work is now in the public domain.

They Won't Forget is a 1937 American drama film directed by Mervyn LeRoy and starring Claude Rains, Gloria Dickson, Edward Norris, and Lana Turner, in her feature debut. It was based on a novel by Ward Greene called Death in the Deep South, which was in turn a fictionalized account of a real-life case : the trial and subsequent lynching of the jew Leo Frank after the murder of Mary Phagan in 1913.

Hollywood's JFK Profiles in Courage (1964) is about Georgia's very corrupt 60th Governor John M. Slaton (1913-1915) and his relation to the rape-murder trial of Leo Frank. This crooked politician is rehabilitated in this odious drama, while the White Gentile Southerners are smeared as a hideous mob of torch wielding yahoos. Leo Frank was calmly hanged August 17th, 1915 at a former Sheriff's farming estate, William Frey.
Leo Frank the toilet strangler was a Jewish supremacist and habitual pedophile born at Cuero Texas in 1884 and he ran a pencil producing sweatshop in Atlanta Georgia from 1908 to 1913. He was arrested, indicted by a Coroner's jury, Indicted and convicted for the molestation-murder of one of his child laborites Mary Phagan. 20 factory girl's at his Mary Phagan murder trial, testified about his pedophilic character for lasciviousness, saying it was bad.

ON THE 100th anniversary of his initial article on the Leo Frank case, the American Mercury is proud to be the first online publication to present, in full, the groundbreaking series of articles about the case by populist reformer and muckraker Thomas E. Watson from his Watson’s Magazine for January, March, August, September, and October 1915. (ILLUSTRATION: A close-up view of the statue of Tom Watson that stands on the grounds of the Georgia capitol building. It has recently been ordered to be removed. The legend on its base reads: “A champion of right who never faltered in the cause.”)
Previously available only in scattered and tattered library archives and in imperfectly rendered scans of the originals, this important historical series has now been fully transcribed and digitized by Penelope Lee of the American Mercury staff.
Tom Watson is often mentioned in modern books and articles on the Frank case, but authors promoting the “received narrative” — that Frank was an innocent victim of anti-Semitism (and such are almost all authors today) — never cite him at length, only quoting a sentence or two, or even a fragment, to illustrate that he called rich Jews “rich Jews” — or that he was highly critical of Roman Catholicism — or some such selection designed to shock modern sensibilities to such an extent that any right-thinking man or woman would immediately conclude that nothing Tom Watson could say could possibly have any value.
But Tom Watson has a great deal to say of immense value to anyone who wants to fully comprehend the Leo Frank legal case — to anyone who wants to gain deeper insight into the mystery and intrigue surrounding the murder of Mary Phagan — to any honest man or woman who wants to understand how a strain of anti-Jewish feeling took root in the largely philo-Semitic South — and to anyone who cares about the influence of money and media on our justice system.
Nowhere, except in Watson’s articles, do we have such a fair and full exposition of the case against Frank, which was enough to convince three juries and the judges of courts all the way to the U.S. Supreme Court. Nowhere, except in these pieces, do we have even an intimation of the underhanded dealings of the Burns detective agency and the Haas Finance Committee in suborning perjury and purchasing false testimony. Nowhere except from Watson’s pen do we have such a brilliant analysis of the facts in the Brief of Evidence, even bringing out angles ignored by the able lawyers on both sides of the case. Nowhere except here do we find the story of the ironic tragedy of how a massive Jewish campaign to exonerate Leo Frank and “fight anti-Semitism” had, in the South, the opposite effect of that intended.
It’s little known today, but, in the early stages of the case, both the prosecution and defense tried to recruit Watson for their respective legal teams. According to the Leo Frank Case and Trial Research Library, “Ironically, the Leo M. Frank legal defense fund that began growing rapidly after the murder of Mary Phagan was used for the purpose of trying to hire one of the best and most influential criminal lawyers in the South, firebrand Tom E. Watson, to defend Leo M. Frank for $5,000 — an impressive sum by 1913 standards. The State’s prosecution team also attempted to recruit Tom Watson, but for a fraction of the offer made by the Leo M. Frank defense fund. Watson turned down offers from both parties.” Watson was later to be a U.S. Senator, and had earlier been a candidate for Vice President of the United States for the Populist Party, sharing the ticket with William Jennings Bryan for President.
One of the most preposterous allegations made by Frank partisans in recent years is that Watson’s “inflammatory” writings poisoned the atmosphere of the trial.

Leo Max Frank (17 April 1884 – 17 August 1915) was a Jewish factory superintendent who was convicted in 1913 of the murder of a 13-year-old employee, Mary Phagan, in Atlanta, Georgia. His trial, conviction, and appeals attracted countrywide attention. He was lynched two years later, in response to the commutation of his death sentence. The powerful Anti-Defamation League was established in 1915 in response to this. Controversy has continued regarding the case, with continued attempts to turn Leo Frank into an innocent martyr. ONE OF THE GREATEST triumphs of historical writing in the last decade was the American Mercury’s centenary series on the 1913 trial and conviction of Jewish sex killer Leo Frank. Now the entire series is being produced as an audio book for our readers, beginning today with the first installment.
