I have decided to try something different in my approach to programming a strength training program for myself. I think I was doing a bit too much, and at too high of an intensity. After experiencing a tweak in my lower back, I decided to take a step back, and reevaluate. So now, I am going to try something a bit more stripped down, and focused, influenced by Bald Omni Man's Berzerker Method. This is my FIRST TIME trying Larsen Presses, and I am actually liking them a lot more than I thought I would. A bit tricky and sketchy in the unracking, whixh is something that I always struggle with to begin with. However, the movement itself seems great! Really trains you to hone in on being tight, explosive, and is especially a great variation for long arm pressers, such as myself 🤟🏻.

Well, that's what I get with setting the uprights one step higher than usual. Lesson learned! IF IT AIN'T BROKE, DON'T FIX IT. This would have been an easier and smoother rep, if it weren't for this mishap. Oh well.

OOPS! In my haste and excitement, I accidentally misloaded the bar for one of my warmup reps. Unfortunately, you can not see it in the video. It was supposed to be 90 Kgs, so 35 Kgs on each side. However, I accidentally put on 32.5 Kgs on the right side, and 35 KGS ON THE LEFT (My weaker side, by the way). I did not realize it, until I unracked the bar, instead of putting it back, I thought "what the hell, and did it anyway." I was only filming to check my form, and wasn't intending to upload this, but I thought the situation ended up being funny, so here it is. Despite the big mistake, I am actually pleased with the performance! The speed was good, and more importantly, the bar remained straight all of the way through! Some unintended balance/stabilization training, today!

I'm feeling over the moon right now, boys and girls. I have pinpointed the crucial mistakes I have neen making with my Overhead Pressing, and the strength, performance and confidence is coming back with a VENGEANCE. Just compare this to my sub-par performance from last week's OHP session. Absolutely NIGHT AND DAY difference. Let's keep this going. Onwards and upwards. Road to 80 Kgs, Baby! 🤟🏻

Despite having a sub-par night of sleep, I feel GREAT. And during one of my prolonged periods of sleeplessness, I kept mulling over my woes with the Overhead Press lately, why I have been doing not as well as before, and what I must be doing wrong. After much thought, I finally pinpointed something seemingly obvious, but overlooked in my training in the past bit. I widened my grip a bit (thumb length), and I was holding the bar farther in front of me...perhaps TOO far (this could have come subtly/gradually from the result of widening the grip). So I decided to go back to a narrower grip, which I usually used before, and preferred, and made a conscious effort to hold the bar closer to my upper body. THESE two things were ehat were sabotaging me. The results are night and day, as you can see. This weight was STUPIDLY easy. 75-80 Kgs may be closer than I anticipated, perhaps 🤟🏻

Was feeling pretty tired today too, and not that in to it. However, you gotta do what you gotta do. Deadlifting has just been feeling tougher for me lately, I don't know why. My cues feel off, weight feels heavier, and I am having more issues with my belt against my stomach (this may be in part due to feeling bloated, due to the bulking, haha) I think it is just my mind, and having to adapt to the new training scheme. I am sure I will overcome it. I am liking this variation, though. I am hoping it will improve powering through my sticking point, which seems to be just below the knee, and help with speed and and power off of the floor. I am also doing defecit Deadlift volume work after this to help address this, as well.

With my new program, I am trying to train 5-6 days a week, and namely get in more pressing volume/frequency. I figured I would put in a day of targeting and overloading the higher /lockout portion of the pressing movements, as that is where my sticking point tends to be, it seems.

I had a terrible night of sleep, so this was a really off day. Weights felt heavy, form was iffy, and for some reason, I had a lot trouble getting in enough air to to brace, and push my abs against the belt. Speaking of the belt, it constantly felt out of position, and like it was being pushed up further than where I usually have it. I think it may have been the shirt I was wearing, perhaps.
Regardless, I crushed it. Never quit. NEVER give up 🤟🏻.

Easy money today, boyz.
As I am doing lower volume sets, I am continuing with the trend of doing stricter reps, particularly on pressing, to try and improve pressing power and technique. I am also getting a better hang of unracking at heavier weight. Just need to ingrain/find a good and consistent position, so I can get far enough under the bar, that the weight doesn't fall backwards when lifting off, but also not too far, so that the bar comes in contact with the super long J-hooks when pressing. The added frequency in my program should help in this regard, as well.

Today also was an off day. Weight felt really heavy, and I couldn't get my lats to fire properly, resulting in me not being able to stay as tight, and my back rounding a bit. However, I put some tunes on, and this set definitely went the best out of all of them. You can't tell me having the right music on doesn't have an effect on your performance. CRANK. THE. TUNES. 🤟🏻

So this is my first day doing my new program. I am going to try and do more sets with more sub-maximal-ish weight, at varying intensities/weight, so I can try and get more work and practice with higher weights, as opposed to just doing one single AMRAP set, ala 5/3/1. I am also going to try and up the frequency of pressing, by starting with three to four days a week, and will try and gradually increase that as well, as those are what Is struggle with. I am hoping this will help improve technique and overall performance under heavier loads, while also taking a bit of the stress/pressure off having to always try and beat a rep PR, which can contribute to form breakdown. Mainly with the OHP.
My strength and energry was NOT there, on this day. I started with 60 KGs for the first two sets for 2 reps, but they were feeling pretty tough, so I dropped down to 57.5 for another two sets. However, those were ALSO feeling tough. So for the last one, I dropped to 55 KGs, and did three reps instead of two. I just could not get in the zone today, unfortunately. Really off day. I think I will swallow my pride, and do this set next time starting at 55 KGs, and use that across all five sets. I am also trying to do more strict reps, to see if that will help increase my overall pushing strength, and stability.

I decided to recruit the help of my amazing girlfriend, and future wife, as the liftoff is always the hardest part for me (especially with these J-hooks), and she is quite a good spotter.
I was not even feeling my best today. The weights were feeling a little heavier, and my back just felt stiffer, and getting an arch was for some reason harder than usual. Despite all of that though, I CRUSHED IT, setting a new rep PR in the process. I am very happy with this, it went way better than I was hoping for. A great way to conclude things before Christmas, and hopefully a sign of greater things to come!
Merry Christmas. Happy holidays.

I decided to start mixing it up with my squatting accessories, and do something front loaded, to target my quads a bit more, and also work core strength. I am not a big fan of front squats personally, they just don't feel good for me. ZERCHER SQUATS however, I think are fantastic. I have not done them in quite a while, and I felt like filming my last set, so here you go 🤟🏻

I had to train today at the gym where my job is, as the new lockdown has sent my work schedule all out of wack, resulting in me having to work at times when I wasn't before; which is why I couldn't get my work out in yesterday. I didn't want to miss another day, so I decided to hammer it out here, after my shift was done. I definitely wasn't feeling that strong today; the weight felt way heavier than usual, and this bar is definitely not suited for heavy deadlifting (not an Olympic barbell) the bar is super stiff, so it was super difficult, to get any slack out of it, making breaking the weight off of the floor a lot tougher. The bar also felt way tougher to hold on to, for some reason. I definitely would have had trouble, if I did not bring my liquid chalk with me.
This was not a rep PR, as I have done 5 reps with this weight previously (but I used straps the time before). I definitely could have grinded out a couple more (especially if I did this with my bar), However, I set a cutoff for five reps, and I figured due to the aforementioned factors, I shouldn't potentially tax myself too much. Overall, not a bad day!

Okay..., okay. I could have done better (and I have, previous best is 60 for 7 reps. However, my goal was to at least get 5, so I will take it.
I definitely think I was capable of a bit more, and better overall performance, as I lost tightness again near the end there, and I noticed that I am not pushing my head through when I should be, when the weights get heavier. That is definitely something to work on. If I can fix/improve these two things, I think I will see my performance improve. I am also trying to press up to 3 times a week now, so hopefully that will yield results in the future, as well.
