Reductive stress leads to oxidative damage by causing a bottleneck in mitochondrial electron transport.

Elevated NADH levels, a hallmark of reductive stress, alter your body fat composition by promoting the conversion of saturated fats to monounsaturated fats. This highlights the intricate relationship between diet, cellular energy balance, and fat physiology.

Getting consistent movement into your daily life is a profoundly powerful intervention for health and longevity. In 2017, I interviewed Joan Vernikos, Ph.D., on this topic. She's a true pioneer in this field and was one of the first professionals to understand the value and importance of regular movement, not exercise, for the preservation of health and prevention of disease.

• Intermittent, low-intensity but high-frequency movement is a powerful, inexpensive and highly effective strategy for health and longevity.

• Without gravity, your vestibular system begins to deteriorate; hence, astronauts lose spatial awareness. Inactivity mimics low gravity situations, so inactivity will increase your risk of poor balance and the possibility of falling.

• Standing up for 15 minutes every two hours effectively counteracts the ill effects of sitting. Other data suggests standing up once for a minute or two every 20 to 30 minutes is a good countermeasure.

I recently had the pleasure of being interviewed by Dr. Josh Axe on the Ancient Health Podcast (video above). The focus of the interview is the link between emotional wellbeing and physical health. As noted by Axe, the mental health of Americans has nosedived over the past five years, and while there are many contributors to that, one of the factors that I’m most passionate about exploring is the biological variables.

• There's a strong connection between your body's ability to create cellular energy and your mental and emotional health. When cellular energy production decreases, you have less energy overall, including for brain processing.

• Seed oils and processed foods are rich in linoleic acid (LA), which can impair brain function by causing oxidative stress and the formation of toxic metabolic byproducts.

• Sun exposure is a foundational strategy for optimizing your vitamin D level, which is essential for overall health, including brain function. Near-infrared radiation from the sun also boosts mitochondrial energy production.

• Maintaining an adequate glucose intake is also crucial for brain function.

• Glycine, found in collagen, reduces neuronal excitability, improves sleep quality, and supports cognitive function, mood and neurological health, while choline in egg yolks is a precursor for acetylcholine, a neurotransmitter for the parasympathetic nervous system.
