Poems to the house
by Svetlana Kuralova

I sensed a distant house -
The way a beast feels the rain.
My only one, how are you there?
With whom do you laugh? Who make you sad?

Who's got the rings
Made from my golden moon&
Whose mother is there in your silence,
Whose children are there and whose father?

What kind of animal is singing on the porch
The song of millions of the tenderest words?
Does my wagtail still alive
In that paradise for demolished houses?

To come to you…
by Robert Rozhdestvensky

To come to you
again,
just
to listen to your
voice;
and to sit on a chair,
hunched over,
not saying a
word.
To come to you,
to knock on the door,
frozen in waiting
for an answer…

If you'll find out
about it,
you probably won't
believe it,
then, of course,
you'll laugh,
you'll say:
"This is
very stupid..."
You'll tell me:
"Oh, hark at him,
he's in love!"
and you'll look
surprised,
and you won't sit
still.
There will be your laughter ringing
like a river…

Well, that's fine.
Well, do laugh.
I love you
so much.

I love you all my life and every day...
by Marina Tsvetaeva (1918)

I love you all my life and every day,
You are above me like a giant shadow,
Like the ancient smoke of the polar villages.

I love you all my life and every hour.
But I don't need your lips and eyes.
It all started - and ended - without you.

I remember something: a ringing arc*,
Huge collar, pure snow,
Horns studded with stars...

And from the horns - in the sky - a shadow...
And the ancient smoke of the polar villages...
- I understood: You are a reindeer.

* An arc was often used in Russian horse harness.
