My commentary (Web developer, programmer, database designer, etc etc):
Google and other social media platforms manipulate users as well as content creators. This was touched upon. Google has everyone on their platform referencing class/metatype profiles. So they can theoretically actually (not literally) shift millions of people that reference particular metatypes into zones and essentially set up metatypes (based on psychological archetypes) to do war with each other.
Or galvanized resistances through manipulative programming as fodder without getting their hands bloody. They want conflict leading up to the next election. They will manipulate (program) some gullible and impressionable fools just by injecting targeted "outrage" into a metatype content stream enough to trigger someone.
Crazy, but all possible.
