This is one of the best documentaries on the history of Taiwan I've ever seen. The only reason I'm uploading it here is because I couldn't find it anywhere else on the internet. (A lot of PBS content is available for free on their website, but this is not.)

Normally I only upload stuff I created myself, but given all the obviously ripped-off content available on YouTube, I thought I'd take a chance... This excellent documentary deserves its rightful place in the "conversation" about Taiwan and its international status. And I'm confident that the people involved in making this film would want it to be seen as widely as possible.

About this version: My parents recorded the original broadcast on VHS, then shipped the tape to me, here in Taipei. It was later transferred to Mini-DV tape, and then converted to MP4 format, for uploading to YouTube. The only alteration I made was to add the "fair use" disclaimer at the beginning.

One more thing: Due to technical limitations of the late 90s, the film was originally saved to disc in six parts. Thus, you may notice a slight "hiccup" in playback at roughly 15-minute intervals. Sorry about that!
