St. Demetrios was ordered to persecute Christians but did not listen to the Emperor. Every day we are enticed to lesser temptations that test our resolve. So often do we hear: sleep a little longer, eat and drink a little bit more, go to the service late, follow this or that thought wherever it leads, excuse yourself from your prayer rule due to tiredness, do not sacrifice yourself for others – do we obey? If we are not conscientious of the little ways in which we need to put to death the desires of the flesh and give life to the Spirit, how will we overcome when the greater trials come, when we are asked to give blood to attain the spirit?

However many and however great and burdensome your sins may be, with God there is greater mercy. Just as His majesty is,
so likewise is His mercy.

Standing on this intersection
Yelling for my change
Watching personalities
Collapse and re-arrange
Gotta smile about it
Gotta surf it out or drown
In the twentieth century
Some guy selling liberty
You've heard it all before
Let's take some pet minority
To fame in eighty-four
Lots of fortunes and
Reputations to be found
In the twentieth century
Yankees lookin' east and west
Before they cross the road
It's Hollywood democracy 👈🏽
It really doesn't bother me
It's entertainment, baby
It explodes
Let the K.G.B. devise
Just what comes after civilised 👈🏽
This intersection's big enough for me
And when I get some change
I'll disappear
It's tricky
But, thank God, it's never organised 👈🏽
I'm talking about the twentieth century
The twentieth century
The twentieth century

BOTH THE POPE AND HITLER LACK CREDIBILITY AND ARE PUPPETS WHO SERVE THE PLANS OF THE NEW WORLD ORDER ☢️

I sometimes think we give too much importance to our outward attitude of prayer. We expect too much emotionally of ourselves, much more than God is asking for.

God is only asking us to remember Him at all times, in good and bad periods to offer Him this moment of our time--this moment, not the following one. The present is what He asks; not in great gestures of surrender, but in a continual natural stream even as we breathe.

The great moments will then be vouchsafed us by Divine grace when we are reaching for them, when prayer quickens into a life of its own and carries us with it to unexpected heights, and above all peace and joys. Prayer carries us--not we, our prayer.

-- Mother Alexandra, of blessed memory, who began life as Princess Ileana of Romania.☦️

We must learn to ease the burden of thoughts that bears down upon us. As soon as we feel burdened, we must turn to the Lord and give our worries over to Him, as well as the worries and cares of our loved ones.

REFLECTION ✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨

We should never despair, for our God
is a loving Father who cares for His children.

In reading the Holy Scriptures and the Lives of the Saints, we are struck at once by the depth of love demonstrated for God by countless holy men and women. For this love Isaiah the prophet suffered martyrdom by being sawn in two; St. Anthony gave up all his material wealth and took to the desert in prayer; St. John Maximovitch adopted orphans, visited the sick in their hospital beds and daily served the Holy Liturgy; Fr Roman Braga and many like him endured fierce torture and isolation in communist prison camps; St. Nicholas left everything in order to bring the good news of Christs life, death and resurrection to the unbeknown people of Japan; St. Nectarios suffered to be despised, falsely accused and exiled; whilst St. Elizabeth together with the Royal Holy Martyrs of Russia fed the poor, cared for the sick and accepted martyrdom on behalf of a nation who abandoned its trust in God. Such array of love, such zeal for the Creator! Nothing could separate them from the love of God.

And yet, ‘God’s love for the biggest sinner is much greater’.

These tender words should fill our souls with humility and consolation, and above all, protect it from despair.

No matter what we have done in the past, despite our sense of unworthiness and sinfulness, God is our loving Father. If we still doubt then let us hear the Psalmist David who after committing serious transgressions was able to say from his heart: ‘He does not deal with us according to our sins, nor punish us according to our iniquities…The Lord is merciful and gracious, slow to anger and abounding in steadfast love… As a father pities his children, so the Lord pities those who fear him…The steadfast love of the Lord is from everlasting on those who fear him…to those who keep his covenant and remember to do his commandments’ (Psalm 103). If we pay careful attention, revealed in these words is the key to acquiring the understanding of the wonderous, dependable and pure love of God. If we missed it, Christ Himself came to proclaim it openly:

“He who has my commandments and keeps them, he it is who loves me; and he who loves me will be loved by my Father, and I will love him and manifest myself to him” (John 14:21).

To the one who labour’s spiritually to keep the commandments of God - despite the assaults of the world, the flesh and the devil - to this soul God has promised to unite Himself. This is our dependable pathway, and many are the sinners who walked it and departed this world are Saints.

"Lord, Bless My Enemies" - A Prayer of St. Nikolai of Ochrid

Bless my enemies, O Lord. Even I bless them and do not curse them.

Enemies have driven me into Thy embrace more than friends have.

Friends have bound me to earth, enemies have loosed me from earth and have demolished all my aspirations in the world.

Enemies have made me a stranger in worldly realms and an extraneous inhabitant of the world.

Just as a hunted animal finds safer shelter than an unhunted animal does, so have I, persecuted by enemies, found the safest sanctuary, having ensconced myself beneath Thy tabernacle, where neither friends nor enemies can slay my soul.

Bless my enemies, O Lord. Even I bless them and do not curse them.

They, rather than I, have confessed my sins before the world.

They have punished me, whenever I have hesitated to punish myself.

They have tormented me, whenever I have tried to flee torments.

They have scolded me, whenever I have flattered myself They have spat upon me, whenever I have filled myself with arrogance.

Bless my enemies, O Lord. Even I bless them and do not curse them.

Whenever I have made myself wise, they have called me foolish.

Whenever I have made myself mighty, they have mocked me as though I were a dwarf.

Whenever I have wanted to lead people, they have shoved me into the background.

Whenever I have rushed to enrich myself, they have prevented me with an iron hand.

Whenever I thought that I would sleep peacefully, they have wakened me from sleep.

Whenever I have tried to build a home for a long and tranquil life, they have demolished it and driven me out.

Truly, enemies have cut me loose from the world and have stretched out my hands to the hem of Thy garment.

Bless my enemies, O Lord. Even I bless them and do not curse them.

Bless them and multiply them; multiply them and make them even more bitterly against me:

so that my fleeing to Thee may have no return;

so that all hope in men may be scattered like cobwebs;

so that absolute serenity may begin to reign in my soul;

so that my heart may become the grave of my two evil twins: arrogance and anger;

so that I might amass all my treasure in heaven;

ah, so that I may for once be freed from self deception, which has entangled me in the dreadful web of illusory life.

Enemies have taught me to know what hardly anyone knows, that a person has no enemies in the world except himself.

One hates his enemies only when he fails to realize that they are not enemies, but cruel friends.

It is truly difficult for me to say who has done me more good and who has done me more evil in the world: friends or enemies.

Therefore bless, O Lord, both my friends and my enemies.

A slave curses enemies, for he does not understand.

But a son blesses them, for he understands. For a son knows that his enemies cannot touch his life.

Therefore he freely steps among them and prays to God for them.

Bless my enemies, O Lord. Even I bless them and do not curse them.

Amen

God is truth and light, God’s judgement is nothing else than our coming into contact with truth and light. In the day of the Great Judgement all men will appear naked before this penetrating light of truth. The ‘books’ will be opened. What are these ‘books’? They are our hearts. Our hearts will be opened by the penetrating light of God, and what is in these hearts will be revealed. If in those hearts there is love for God, those hearts will rejoice in seeing God’s light. If, on the contrary, there is hatred for God in those hearts, these men will suffer by receiving on their opened hearts this penetrating light of truth which they detested all their life. So that which will differentiate between one man and another will not be a decision of God, a reward or a punishment from Him, but that which was in each one’s heart; what was there during all our life will be revealed in the Day of Judgement. If there is a reward and a punishment during this revelation – and there really is – it does not come from God but from the love or hate which reigns in our heart. Love has bliss in it, hatred has despair, bitterness, grief, affliction, wickedness, agitation, confusion, darkness, and all the other interior conditions which compose hell. – St. Symeon the New Theologian ☦️💒☦️

When I was young, I wanted to change the world. I found it was difficult to change the world, so I tried to change my nation. When I found I couldn't change the nation, I began to focus on my town. I couldn't change the town and as an older man, I tried to change my family. Now, as an old man, I realise the only thing I can change is myself, and suddenly I realise that if long ago I had changed myself, I could have made an impact on my family. My family and I could have made an impact on our town. Their impact could have changed the nation and I could indeed have changed the world.

I remember long ago
Many things we didn't know
But hear me say
We still have time ⏰

Too many people
Change the world we live in
They don't know
They'll run out of time ⏰

I hear that voice getting stronger
You know that it's higher than hope ☦️
We won't have to wait any longer
Stand up and let them know
That you just won't let go 🥊

Every stone that's been placed in
The Empire of Ancient grounds
One day they'll fall - you'll say goodbye

United they stand
Today there one land
Nobody knows
Who'll say goodbye

I hear that voice getting stronger
You know that it's higher than hope ☦️
We won't have to wait any longer
Stand up and let them know
That you just won't let go 🥊

In having love toward your neighbour, you acquire within yourself, Him, who is most precious in the whole world. -- St. Isaac the Syrian 📖

Silence greatly helps in spiritual life.
It is good for one to practice silence for about an hour a day: to test himself, to acknowledge his passions and to fight in order to cut them off and purify his heart.
It is very good if there is a quiet room in the house which gives him the feeling of a monastic cell. There, “in secret,” he is able to do his spiritual maintenance, to study, and to pray.
A little spiritual study done before prayer
helps greatly.
The soul warms up and the mind is transported to the spiritual realm.
That’s why, when a person has many distractions during the day, he should rejoice if he has ten minutes for prayer, or even two minutes to read something, so as to drive away distractions.

The closer one is to God in reality -- and not simply in one's imagination -- the more one feels unworthy and sinful, more sinful than anyone else.

The Holy Fathers felt this way. There are many examples of this. The publican considered himself a sinner for altogether other reasons.

Nevertheless, he realized his sinful state and did not try to justify himself. He asked only for mercy and forgiveness of the Lord, and he received it.

Everybody has an insolvent debt before God. No amount of ascetic struggles can repay this debt. The Lord Himself says: If you do all that is demanded of you (that is, follow all the commandments), consider yourselves unprofitable servants whose duty it is to fulfill the master's order (Luke 17:10).

How necessary it is for us, who constantly break the commandments, to keep the same disposition of soul as the publican: not to look for virtues in ourselves.

Regardless of any spiritual labors we might undertake, we shall always remain abominable slaves. Only by the mercy of God, those who repent are forgiven and are vouchsafed to enter the Kingdom of Heaven.

For this reason, the seeking of high spiritual states is forbidden by the Lord and by the Holy Fathers.

All our inner struggle should be concentrated on repentance and on everything which promotes that penitent state.

Psalm 106 📖 ✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨
Praise ye the Lord. O give thanks unto the Lord; for he is good: for his mercy endureth for ever.

2 Who can utter the mighty acts of the Lord? who can shew forth all his praise?

3 Blessed are they that keep judgment, and he that doeth righteousness at all times.

4 Remember me, O Lord, with the favour that thou bearest unto thy people: O visit me with thy salvation;

5 That I may see the good of thy chosen, that I may rejoice in the gladness of thy nation, that I may glory with thine inheritance.

6 We have sinned with our fathers, we have committed iniquity, we have done wickedly.

7 Our fathers understood not thy wonders in Egypt; they remembered not the multitude of thy mercies; but provoked him at the sea, even at the Red sea.

8 Nevertheless he saved them for his name's sake, that he might make his mighty power to be known.

9 He rebuked the Red sea also, and it was dried up: so he led them through the depths, as through the wilderness.

10 And he saved them from the hand of him that hated them, and redeemed them from the hand of the enemy.

11 And the waters covered their enemies: there was not one of them left.

12 Then believed they his words; they sang his praise.

13 They soon forgat his works; they waited not for his counsel:

14 But lusted exceedingly in the wilderness, and tempted God in the desert.

15 And he gave them their request; but sent leanness into their soul.

16 They envied Moses also in the camp, and Aaron the saint of the Lord.

17 The earth opened and swallowed up Dathan and covered the company of Abiram.

18 And a fire was kindled in their company; the flame burned up the wicked.

19 They made a calf in Horeb, and worshipped the molten image.

20 Thus they changed their glory into the similitude of an ox that eateth grass.

21 They forgat God their saviour, which had done great things in Egypt;

22 Wondrous works in the land of Ham, and terrible things by the Red sea.

23 Therefore he said that he would destroy them, had not Moses his chosen stood before him in the breach, to turn away his wrath, lest he should destroy them.

24 Yea, they despised the pleasant land, they believed not his word:

25 But murmured in their tents, and hearkened not unto the voice of the Lord.

26 Therefore he lifted up his hand against them, to overthrow them in the wilderness:

27 To overthrow their seed also among the nations, and to scatter them in the lands.

28 They joined themselves also unto Baalpeor, and ate the sacrifices of the dead.

29 Thus they provoked him to anger with their inventions: and the plague brake in upon them.

30 Then stood up Phinehas, and executed judgment: and so the plague was stayed.

31 And that was counted unto him for righteousness unto all generations for evermore.

32 They angered him also at the waters of strife, so that it went ill with Moses for their sakes:

33 Because they provoked his spirit, so that he spake unadvisedly with his lips.

34 They did not destroy the nations, concerning whom the Lord commanded them:

35 But were mingled among the heathen, and learned their works.

36 And they served their idols: which were a snare unto them.

37 Yea, they sacrificed their sons and their daughters unto devils,

38 And shed innocent blood, even the blood of their sons and of their daughters, whom they sacrificed unto the idols of Canaan: and the land was polluted with blood.

39 Thus were they defiled with their own works, and went a whoring with their own inventions.

40 Therefore was the wrath of the Lord kindled against his people, insomuch that he abhorred his own inheritance.

41 And he gave them into the hand of the heathen; and they that hated them ruled over them.

42 Their enemies also oppressed them, and they were brought into subjection under their hand.

43 Many times did he deliver them; but they provoked him with their counsel, and were brought low for their iniquity.

44 Nevertheless he regarded their affliction, when he heard their cry:

45 And he remembered for them his covenant, and repented according to the multitude of his mercies.

46 He made them also to be pitied of all those that carried them captives.

47 Save us, O Lord our God, and gather us from among the heathen, to give thanks unto thy holy name, and to triumph in thy praise.

48 Blessed be the Lord God of Israel from everlasting to everlasting: and let all the people say, Amen

If an ascetic has no sincere, heartfelt acknowledgment of his sinfulness, if he has not a contrite heart, he is most definitely in a state of prelest [self-deception].

For those who devote themselves to prayer, it is especially important to practice the publican's prayer and to maintain contrition of heart, else they will be deceived by the demons and fall into high-mindedness, spiritual pride and vanity. May the Lord protect us from such a state.

A TRIBUTE TO THE AMAZING EIGHTIES ⚜️⚜️⚜️
A DECADE OF UNIQUE INNOVATION
AND DISTINCTION.
THE MUSIC AND THE MOVIES
THAT CAPTURED A GENERATION.♥️

Below are the thoughts of an ordinary man. Not an ascetic or a saint. I'm posting this for the very reason that it is good to hear the thoughts of people who are just like us, people on a journey, but not yet there.

Whilst it is important to hear the words of our beloved saints and live by their example, we must be mindful that progress in the spiritual life is made slowly. For this reason, spiritual labour should be measured and applied safely to ensure one can last the distance.

Today we live in a world remarkably different to the Christians of old. We have grown up in a rapidly changing society where even the world of 50 years ago is unrelatable. Many of us did not grow up in villages, were not taken to Church from our 8th day of birth, did not live nearby a saintly and revered priest modelling the Christian life of prayer, love, patience and kindness. We did not grow up in families who gathered for every night for evening prayer by the candlelight.

Instead many of us grew up with the television as our companion, with violence, sexual immorality, wars and political turmoil as our model of life.  Some of us witnessed fights between our parents, listened to their harsh words against clergy and neighbours, were influenced by their culturally influenced views on wars in distant lands. We’ve been raised and ‘fed’ by a world obsessed with food, fashion, sports, entertainment and violence.

As adults we must accept the damage and illness that such a ‘diet’ produces. Many will never recognise the diseases of selfishness, anger, jealousy, fears, slothfulness, greed, self-love that such a world and upbringing roots in us. But to those who begin to distance themselves from the world, who begin to be fed by the spiritual life of the Church, a great awakening occurs. It is confronting and overwhelming. And it is most painful.

We start to feel guilty for our sinful conditions, we experience shame, we cast blame and eventually we believe ourselves to be bad people. Sooner or later, we battle the torturing thought: can God ever love me? It is right here, at this point, that we must do one truly heroic thing. We must not despair.

The saints tell us that to see your sins is greater than raising the dead. What did they mean by this? The saints knew that to see our illnesses, to realise our inability to cure them, is in fact to be touched by the spirit of God. It is the sign that God has begin His work and that true Life has come.  For this reason, we must not despair. Instead we should draw courage that God has counted us worthy to begin the spiritual life, to walk the Royal Way of The Cross.

Do not be afraid with what you see in yourself. Do not fear, do not despair, and do not overwhelm your spiritual strength. It is not wise for us to try to eradicate the sickness we see in ourselves overnight.

God is truth and light, God’s judgement is nothing else than our coming into contact with truth and light. In the day of the Great Judgement all men will appear naked before this penetrating light of truth. The ‘books’ will be opened. What are these ‘books’? They are our hearts. Well we know where we're going
But we don't know where we've been
And we know what we're knowing
But we can't say what we've seen
And we're not little children
And we know what we want
And the future is certain 👈🏽
Give us time to work it out
Yeah
We're on a road to nowhere 💒
Come on inside ♥️
Taking that ride to nowhere 💒
We'll take that ride 👈🏽
I'm feeling okay this morning
And you know
We're on the road to paradise 👈🏽📖☦️💒🕯
Here we go, here we go 🥁
We're on a ride to nowhere 💒
Come on inside ♥️
Taking that ride to nowhere 💒
We'll take that ride 👈🏽
Maybe you wonder where you are
I don't care
Here is where time is on our side
Take you there, take you there
We're on a road to nowhere 💒
We're on a road to nowhere 💒
We're on a road to nowhere 💒
There's a city in my mind 📖
Come along and take that ride
And it's alright, baby, it's all right
And it's very far away
But it's growing day by day and it's all right
Baby, it's all right
Would you like to come along
You can help me sing the song
And it's all right, baby, it's all right
They can tell you what to do
But they'll make a fool of you
And it's all right, baby, it's all right
There's a city in my mind 📖
Come along and take that ride
And it's alright, baby, it's all right
And it's very far away
But it's growing day by day and it's all right
Baby, it's all right, yeah
Would you like to come along
You can help me sing the song
And it's all right, baby, it's all right
They can tell you what to do 🐑
But they'll make a fool of you and it's all right
Baby, it's all right
We're on a road to nowhere 💒
We're on a road to nowhere 💒
We're on a road to nowhere 💒
We're on a road to nowhere 💒

– St. Symeon the New Theologian 💒

Fight, fight, and be good soldiers of Christ!

God's grace will then enter by itself when the soul is clean and if the Lord Himself so wills.

LYRICS 💿💿💿 1989
Some people don't understand
What I see in you
If only they knew
They think my head's in the sand
They'll never see
The best side of you
Is my heart ruling my mind
Maybe I'm not right every time
But I know I'm right about this love of mine
If I had to do it all again
I wouldn't change a single thing 👈🏽
There's no questioning in my heart
When it comes to our love
I wouldn't change a thing 👈🏽
I-I-I I wouldn't change [Repeat: x 4]
Yeah, I've had my doubts
My ups and downs
On the merry-go-round
They say my heads in the cloud
But I'm keeping one
Foot on the ground
I know they say love is blind
But he's the best thing that happened to me
And I'm not ashamed for the world to see
If I had to do it all again
I wouldn't change a single thing 👈🏽
There's no questioning in my heart
When it comes to our love
I wouldn't change a thing 👈🏽
I-I-I I wouldn't change [Repeat: x 4]
Is my heart ruling my mind
Maybe I'm not right on every thing
But I know I'm right about this love of mine
If I had to do it all again
I wouldn't change a single thing 👈🏽

REFLECTION 🤔

It often happens that the struggler cannot win over his former-self despite hating and detesting his passions. According to the tradition of our Church, this state is regarded as ‘repentance’. It stops being ‘repentance’ as soon as the person gives up struggling and says: ‘I cannot go on anymore. There is nothing for me’. This is regarded as ‘despair’. The Church condemns it as ‘blasphemy’ against the Holy Spirit and severs and rejects this member as rotten and blasphemous, because it turns against the Lord’s kindness. Under no circumstances must we let our faith diminish. Let no one ever think that it is impossible for him to reach comprehensive repentance which is the state that our Jesus has called him to follow. We will accomplish this with the grace of Jesus. It is not possible to attain to it through human exertion and effort alone. This is selfish and the holy Fathers have condemned it…If we remain faithful and do not go back in our intention, we will certainly succeed. This is the truth. Our Fathers accept no other way. Any other way of thinking is regarded as ‘despair’. There is no such thing as ‘I cannot go on anymore’. Why can’t you go on? We derive strength through our Jesus. ‘I can do all things through him who strengthens me’.
