When you go to bed and fall asleep and begin to dream, does it ever occur to you whilst you are dreaming that you are actually Home, in bed, asleep? So, if you are an eternal spiritual conscious entity, and your Home never changes, is it possible you would choose to dream a mysterious dream full of changes? If you want it to seem real, you'd have to choose to forget who and what you really are. You'd have to choose to forget you chose to dream this ridiculous dream.
When you go to sleep as a human and dream, you forget whilst dreaming that you're actually in bed asleep, safe at home. What if that's the case spiritually? What if none of this actually means a damn in any way shape or form? What if we are actually eternal nobodies, in the middle of forever, accomplishing absolutely nothing real?

The thing about determinism vs freewill-freeplay-making-it-up-as-you-go-along, is that logically it can only be 100% one way or the other. You can't have partial determinism because that means there are moments of freewill-freeplay when someone could kill someone before their determined time of death, and that would ruin everyone's life-story since all life-stories are interconnected.
If this mortal life was freewill-freeplay, it would be unimaginably chaotic and probably very, very violent. There would be no stop signs or speed limits. There would be no order.
Determinism explains all the perfect timing that occurs within this dream-movie. It explains why we only think what we think instead of thinking like Beethoven or Twain or Hendrix or Joe the plumber. Nothing could exist in this mortal world without having been thought about and designed before this world ever began. All thoughts, feelings, moods, illnesses, actions, everything here, it all unfolds & unfurls on automatic pilot.
This is a ride. We designed it with perfect sanity & sobriety before this physical world began. We had to intentionally forget we are eternal conscious beings and intentionally forget we scripted this nightmare life we are living. Nothing about us is changed or threatened by anything that happens in this dream-movie. We have nothing better to do throughout eternity (the middle of forever).
