Have you ever joked with your coworkers saying “Working Harder, or Hardly Working?” If you watched my video series on “The Ever Shrinking Job Market”, you most probably guessed what I’m about to say: Automation; plus: Computers, Endless Storage and High Bandwidth, instant communications! We may produce more in less time, but I don’t know if we really work harder than our parents or grandparents did. Technology has just made doing our jobs easier so we can produce more. This was observed throughout the industrial revolution. I just question when I hear either the left or right talk about this… There’s more to our increase in productivity than meets the eye.

In 2002 for every one programmer in the US you could hire (outsourcing) SIX programmers in India. Today, in 2018 that ratio is more closer to 1 to 2 or 1 to 3 depending on skillset and industry.

In part 7 of my series on the Ever Shrinking Job Market, I discuss how Globalization has the exact opposite trending line from the Job Market itself. As time goes on Globalization will continue to increase. Yes, like the job market, only inversely it can have periods of dips, such as we see today with the Trump Administration with more protectionist policies, but overtime its march upwards cannot be stopped. I do however believe it will eventually Peak and level out, as Cost of Living and therefore Wages increase in developing nations, and as fast internet becomes cheaper and more available to all, the job market will simply turn into a single global pool of talent; those with the skillset will get the jobs no matter where in the world they live.
