“Blessed are the meek, for they will inherit the earth.” (Matthew 5:5)

While the modern English interpretation of 'meek' is weak, timid, spineless, the Biblical version of the word came from the Greek, praus (prah-oos), which was used to define wild stallions tamed and trained for battle. These warrior horses could race, pull wagons, or gallop into battle at 35 miles per hour, unafraid of arrows, spears or torches.

As these horses must control their wild spirits for their masters, so must we rein in our unbridled selves and learn to restrain and mold ourselves to God. While we serve Him, we do not lose that vigor inside ourselves that is ready to be unsheathed against the forces of evil. We simply master it so we can use it best.
