The federal government is aiming to bring a total of 310,000 newcomers to Canada in 2018, it was revealed on Wednesday, with increases every year thereafter until 2020.

The plan reflects a new multi-year approach to immigration planning that experts say will allow for better preparation and integration.

By 2020, the yearly total will hit 340,000.

None of us should enjoy the right to have our beliefs shielded from abuse

Should it be illegal to call the prophet Muhammad a “paedophile”? That was the question in front of the European court of human rights (ECHR) last week.

In 2009, an Austrian woman, known as ES, held “seminars” on Islam in which she likened Muhammad’s marriage to six-year-old Aisha to paedophilia. She was convicted of “disparaging religion”. In keeping with a history of supporting blasphemy laws, the ECHR upheld the conviction. ES’s comments, it ruled, “aimed at demonstrating that Muhammad was not a worthy subject of worship”. Presenting objects of religious worship in a provocative way capable of hurting the feelings of believers, it added, “could be conceived as a malicious violation of the spirit of tolerance”.

Is Justin Trudeau Canada's worst prime minister?

There are many reasons why Canada's present Liberal government led by Prime Minister Justin Trudeau has not been good for Canadians. The Trudeau government has done and passed legislation that make the nation worse. The prime minster is not afraid to disregard and violate Christian values, the very values that have shaped and built the nation. In this post, we're going to list a number of issues attempting to make the case that the present prime minister is the worst of Canada's leaders. The points are also good reasons why the Liberals don't deserve to be re-elected in October of 2019. The Liberal ideology is anti-life, anti-Christian and anti-democratic. Did you know that no candidate can run for the Liberal party unless they support abortion? Then, there's Bill C-16 that forces Canadians to accept gender fluidity that amounts to a legislative attack on the freedom of speech. It's a terrible law. But let's examine more of the evidence in some detail in order to back our argument.

Flanked by musicians, Trump signs music copyright bill into law

oined by Kid Rock, original Beach Boys member Mike Love, and other stars, President Trump signed the Music Modernization Act on Thursday to close loopholes in existing copyright legislation.

Given the rise in music listening through streaming services like Apple AAPL, +2.03% Music and Spotify SPOT, +2.21% artists have pushed for tighter legislation that allows them to get compensated adequately for their music.

Nine Musicians Who Support Donald Trump

In the past year, musicians have told Donald Trump not to use their songs. It's a pretty standard request during presidential elections, and for more than just copyright reasons: Musicians don't want to be associated with a candidate who doesn't embody their values.

But there are a few artists who have come out in support of the reality television boss turned president-elect. They represent a wide-range of music (not just mainstream country) and have come out in support of the Donald online and in interviews.

We will not help with enforcement of absurd gun-control ruling, arms association says

The South African Arms and Ammunition Dealers Association (Saaada) has labelled a firearms-control ruling by the Constitutional Court as "a travesty of justice" and has resolved not to help with its enforcement, saying the ruling deprives many responsible gun owners of their property and the ability to protect themselves in a crime-ridden society.

In June, the court upheld the constitutionality of regular firearm licences, after an appeal by the minister of safety and security, by dismissing a high court order that had declared that two sections of the Firearms Control Act of 2000 were unconstitutional.

Andrew Scheer isn’t sure he’ll keep weed legal if he wins in 2019

It’s been two days since recreational marijuana legalization in Canada and already Opposition Leader Andrew Scheer is telling Canadians that it might be short-lived. Scheer appeared on Power Play with Don Martin on Thursday night and said he hadn’t ruled out undoing the Liberals’ legalization if he and the Conservatives are elected into power in the 2019 election.

“We’re already hearing some of the concerns from health experts, from law enforcement,” Scheer said. He then reiterated the talking points legalization opponents (including the Tory leader himself) have been making all along: citing worries about the minimum age, policing and roadside testing. When asked point-blank, yes or no to re-criminalizing, Scheer refused to give a simple answer, but that in itself says volumes.

Why an 18-year-old groping allegation against Justin Trudeau is not a #MeToo moment

The Prime Minister’s Office says Trudeau does not recall any 'negative interactions' during his visit to a music festival in Creston, B.C., in 2000

One day in August 2000, Valerie Bourne — at the time the publisher of the Creston Valley Advance, a small community newspaper in British Columbia’s southern interior — received a visit in her office from one of the newsroom’s two reporters.

The reporter, a woman in her early 20s whom Bourne later described as having an “awesome work ethic” and a “heart of gold,” told her publisher about an unsettling encounter she said she’d had with Justin Trudeau. Not yet involved in politics, the then-28-year-old Trudeau had come to Creston to attend a music festival raising funds to build a backcountry lodge in honour of his late brother

Trudeau and #MeToo double standard

Quiz time.

A little over six months ago, who said: “Sexual harassment is a systemic problem and when women speak up, we have a responsibility to listen to them and to believe them.”

And who also said: “Obviously my thoughts turn immediately to the women who came forward knowing how difficult it is, it can be, to salute them for their courage and their leadership and certainly hope that their example will resonate and that the support of their friends, their families, and the community at large remains with them.”

None other than Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, of course. He made those remarks around the time when anonymous individuals had added their voices to the #MeToo movement by accusing former Ontario Conservative leader Patrick Brown of assorted improprieties. Trudeau’s comments came just before he removed Calgary MP Kent Hehr from cabinet based on decade-old accusations of similar improprieties.

Cannabis is legal in Canada — here's what you need to know

Recreational marijuana is legal as of today, but the vision of what a pot-permissive Canada looks like remains somewhat hazy.

There's still a lot we don't know, including what will happen to the illicit dispensaries that popped up in cities across the country in recent years. But here's a look at what we do know as Canadian consumers buy legal cannabis for the first time.

How does cannabis smoke compare to tobacco smoke?

With Edmonton city council considering relaxed rules around cannabis consumption in public, the science is still out on how second-hand cannabis smoke might affect people.

Fiona Clement's research was brought up in council committee discussions around the proposed rules, which would allow people to smoke cannabis outside in public places like parks and sidewalks. The new cannabis rules would be similar to current tobacco bylaws.

"I would not be comfortable with the evidence to say that cannabis smoke is worse for you than tobacco smoke," Clement told CBC's Edmonton AM Monday. "It's not as nuanced as it could be."

Migrants travelling in a mass caravan burst through a Guatemalan border fence and streamed by the thousands toward Mexican territory on Friday, defying Mexican authorities' entreaties for an orderly crossing and U.S. President Donald Trump's threats of retaliation.

On the Mexican side of a border bridge, they were met by a phalanx of police with riot shields. About 50 managed to push their way through before officers unleashed pepper spray and the rest retreated.

About CHP Canada

Who are the people of the CHP?

We’re your neighbours, and we want the same things you want: safe communities, a strong economy, and a good future for our children and grandchildren. We come from all parts of the nation, and from all walks of life.
Why a specifically Christian political party?

The CHP was not started because there were no Christians in the other parties — there are. However, party discipline in Ottawa is so restrictive that Christian members of Parliament in the major parties are not permitted to bring their deepest convictions into parliamentary debates: they are told by their caucuses what to say, and when. Therefore, we saw a great need for a national political party that would encourage Christians to put forward the Biblical perspectives upon which Canada — and indeed, western civilization itself — was founded.

Why do we hate the NRA?

"The fact that [the NRA] was in power for so long just goes to show how much time we need to spend fixing our country," Parkland student Emily Gonzalez said.

When the CNN anchor pointed out the NRA "gives millions of dollars to politicians, Gonzalez replied, "Politicians who accept this blood money are against the children, they're against the people who are dying." Fellow student David Hogg added "If you can't get elected without taking money from child murderers, why are you even running?"

To recap: the NRA is a group of "child murderers" who hand out "blood money" to desperate politicians to buy their support for the Second Amendment and, therefore, it should be "killed." Have I got that right?

I'm double-checking because, as a regular, gun-owning-but-it's-no big-deal, supports-the-Second-Amendment-but-isn't-an-NRA-member guy--that sounds nuts.

Trump chips away at liberal U.S. appeals court majorities

Aided by fellow Republicans in the Senate, President Donald Trump is rapidly filling vacancies on U.S. appeals courts, moving some that had liberal majorities closer to conservative control in an ideological shift that could benefit his administration.

These 13 courts wield considerable power, usually providing the last word on rulings appealed from lower courts on disputes involving federal law.

Their rulings can be challenged before the U.S. Supreme Court, but most such appeals are turned away because the top court typically hears fewer than 100 cases annually. Eleven of the courts handle cases from specific multi-state regions, one handles cases from Washington, D.C., while another specializes in patent cases.

Can Andrew Scheer lead conservatives to success?

Maxime Bernier was cruising to victory in the 2017 Tory leadership contest. Then Andrew Scheer aligned with dairy and poultry farmers, which – along with a quiet nod to social conservatives – created a narrow path to victory. Mr. Bernier, who had called for an end to agricultural cartels while advocating for enhanced personal responsibility and greater freedoms, led on the first 12 of 13 ballots.

Mr. Scheer shrewdly cozied up with the agricultural lobby to win. But in the aftermath, he needed to find some common ground with Mr. Bernier, who had the majority of the party with him minus some special interests. Had Mr. Bernier won, the traditional conservative universe would have instinctively embraced his proposal to equitably dismantle state-sponsored price fixing in the agricultural sector.

The measure requires at least one female director on each board of California-based corporations by the end of next year. Companies would need up to three female directors by the end of 2021, depending on the number of board seats.

The Democratic governor referenced the objections and legal concerns that the law has raised.

John Stossel: Fabulously Rich Celebrities Celebrate Socialism

Famous actors recently made a commercial proclaiming that "democratic socialism" creates some of the best parts of America. It's "your kids' public school" (says Susan Sarandon), the "interstate highway system" (Rosario Dawson), "public libraries" (Jay Ferguson), "EMTs" (Ethan Embry), "workers who plow our streets" (Max Carver) and "scientists" (Danny DeVito).

Wow. I guess every popular thing government does is socialism.

The celebrities conclude: "We can do better when we do them together."

There is sometimes truth to that, but the movie stars don't know that America's first highways were built by capitalist contractors. They also probably didn't notice that the more popular parts of government — public schools, EMTs, snow plowing, libraries, etc. — are largely locally funded.

Evansville Trump rally got Ford Center's largest-ever crowd

Thursday night's Trump rally drew the Ford Center's largest crowd ever, according to manager VenuWorks. The turnout: 11,500 people, with another 2,000 unable to get in.

Meanwhile, the Evansville Police Department issued its official estimate of the crowd protesting President Trump outside the arena - 500 to 600 people at its peak.

Scott Schoenike, executive director of Ford Center manager VenuWorks, said the absence of chairs and the use of a relatively small stage were the keys to squeezing in 11,500 people. The $120 million, 290,000-square foot facility has 9,200 fixed seats and another 400 if suites are counted, Schoenike said.

Trump’s new campaign manager Brad Parscale estimated that there were 20,000 people at the rally — 7,000 inside the arena, 2,000 in the overflow room, and thousands outside.

“Big numbers!” he exclaimed on Twitter.

Rep. Phil Roe of Tennessee said 92,000 had requested tickets to the event. Some supporters arrived Sunday night to stake their position in the line.
